The way I saw Diana's rules working was that: 1) regular light causes her to become invisible and intangible, 2) the blacklight neutralized her ability to disappear, and 3) she could move through a lighted area - she just can't interact with anything while it's lit. *Spoilers below*, though. Oh, incidentally - the ending was supposed to be different, where there was about 10 minutes more conflict at the climax but it was cut due to focus testing - people hated that the suicide didn't actually stop Diana's onslaught. Of course, that then implied that someone with Depression should commit suicide, and seeing as the writer has dealt with it himself... suffice to say he's eager to clarify that in the sequel. And I kind of disagree with the CPS woman being villainous - it was clear that she was primarily interested in the kid's wellbeing, and she laid out precisely how hard it would've been for Rebecca to fight her mother for custody. She didn't say she shouldn't, but just that it's a *lot* more complicated than what's usually seen in Hollywood. And my interpretation of Diana's "experiment" is that it didn't actually kill her - she just "shifted" to whatever plane she's on now. She can only manifest when near people with a strong enough mental connection (e.g. Sophie), but can't really appear *to* them without their being psychologically unbalanced. That would explain the basement being filled with the scrawlings on the wall.
As someone who actually recently was in a mental institution, I can say that at least in Sweden there were no 8mm cameras to be seen. But maybe they were hidden...
I really enjoyed this film, though I haven't seen the Conjuring 2, so I don't know how it compares. One thing that I especially enjoyed was it didn't have one of those stupid "fake out" endings that a lot of horror films have. I am not against the characters dying at the end, but if they have earned it, I hate when the film goes "They won, oh wait no they didn't, fuck you" right at the end.
I enjoyed this movie a lot I went with a good friend of mine, and the crowd was awesome, everyone cheered when the boyfriend got away by flashing the lights of his car, and again when he used his phone light
The little 3 min. short that this movie is based from, is one of the scariest, most effective things I've ever watched. Also called Light's Out. The movie looks okay to me and I do want to see it, but that short is what I've shown to many people when they ask for something scary.
In regards to the DCFS lady (at least here in Illinois) if a parent is the legal guardian and calls in to inform them that her child has been removed, even by a family member, then they have to bring the kid back home. Just saying "it's a sleepover" won't cut it. If I remember correctly, they mention Maria Bello called them about the kid being taken by the sister.
Your review is spot on for Lights Out. I was never really scared at all but I was pretty entertained throughout. I was kind of sad that Billy Burke didn't have more to do. :-( Great analogy to Bill Pullman in Grudge. Forgot about that! As far as what was happening with Bello's character - she wasn't 100% saying oh it's all fine, considering she is mentally ill. I was kind of p*ssed off half the film that they really almost allowed Child Services and Maria Bello's character actually BLAME the daughter for everything that is going on in and that she abandoned the mom. But overall, a good film (I love the short it is based on).
A reason for the ghost having strange rules might be because of the short it's based on. I liked the the "wait wtf?!" feel I got from the short so an extended version doesn't appeal. Glad you guys had a good time though, you see enough shit horror films.
My brother and I had the exact same reaction. We both left saying, "that was good," but then listed off all the things we had issues with the entire drive home. For every few good points in this movie there is something that didn't work or just took me out of the story. This is the first movie in a while to leave me confused about how I feel about it.
I thought this movie was pretty great. It wasn't very scary, but it's very engaging, and my audience was totally into it. All the teenagers were screaming and freaking out. (And not in the annoying way, they weren't laughing at the scares or anything.) The audience even cheered at one point. It was just a really fun theater experience.
Maybe what a film could do with the 8MM film trope is show 2 characters, one with a modern camera &/or iPhone while the other has an older camera (maybe for a photography course or something) but in the modern tech nothing shows up but with the older tech you can see the ghosts/demons/etc. Give some explanation why with all this tech that the unseen aren't seen with cameras everywhere.
I thought it was decently scary best horror movie I saw since the visit. It was very interesting and had great acting it could have been longer but it still felt like a full movie.
I heard that the guy who directed this has been put in charge of directing Annabelle 2. I'd easily call him the best newcomer director of the decade if he can pull something decent off with that.
I was pretty scared by this movie actually. I've seen tons and tons of horror films and not many of them were more scary, the only one I can say was for sure more scary would probably have to be The Thing
Nice review, I want to see this sometime. Don't let people bother you, the defenders of Ghostbusters remake are a bunch of kids with bad attitudes. I hate what they did to that movie. You guys stay honest and awesome, your reviews are great and entertaining.
I thought that (SPOILER) when the boyfriend left, he would come back with, like, a butt-load of high-powered portable lights from HOME DEPOT; it never occurred to me that he'd bring the cops...
Ok I've stopped watching at 2:50 as it would appear you both agree this movie is ok and fun to watch, right? I don't like to have my horror movies spoiled too much and I plan to watch this one, as I'm a fan of the original short and it's creator. I don't need all my movies to be masterpieces, a nice shorter "fine" movie will do most of the time.
It's funny that since the director confirmed that this takes place in the same universe as Shazam!/DCEU, in hindsight the ghost was probably a metahuman
This movie made me laugh all the way. I am not kidding. The cellphone scene and the car scene got the entire theater laughing. I am in Argentina so probably is a cultural thing maybe that for us it was more like a comedy in how unrealistic and easily solvable the situation was.
She goes incorporeal in normal light and disappears but because a black light is a different spectrum of light she remains visible in the black light so you can see her moving around in a black light and then burn her because she is still photo sensitive. The black light keeps her corporeal, and the light burns her like it did when she was alive.
Might be picky but the black light allows them to see her but it doesn't harm her because it's not UV light. I don't remember every instance of light but it would explain why she could appear with candles? And maybe some lights were UV and some not?
I had a snob reaction when watching this. When the SPOILERS Mother shoots herself at the end and it cuts away as she pull the trigger, I said, "Shot herself right in the off-camera"
I think this film is based of/extended version of a 2013 short film that is here on you tube...it's like part of 3 minute horror film series and it's quite creepy for what it is...a little independent short.
When the mother says to the ghost "If you hurt my kids I'll never speak to you again" I laughed out loud. It is one of the dumbest lines in cinema history. She should have said "If you hurt my children I'll destroy you," which would have nicely foreshadowed the ending. Why do these movies so often screw up the simplest things?
I can so relate to Brian. Twitter confuses me. I get tge appeal of it, but the interface is a pain so fuck it back to aggressively posting, passive aggressive sticky notes!
Stoned Gremlin Productions+ Really thats to bad. You guys rant about and reference tht movie so much during your horror screenings it would've been cool to see a review about it.
It was also heavily re-edited before it's theatrical release (and apparently, akin to HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, the prosthetic creature was replaced by CGI). There is a scene or two in the trailers that are not in the movie (like a scene where the characters are going down a hallway that is only lit on the right side, with the Tooth Fairy following them on the left side).
Did you guys notice that the woman who comes in to tell Billy Burke that she is 'just locking up' for the night is the same actress that was the main character in the short film version (original) of this movie?...;) Except this time, they let her survive...noice.
I have seen some short (horror) movies.. but I can't name a single one, lol. Pick a side already, you either like Animaniacs or you don't, there is no in between.
21:49
Brad Jones: "What did you think of the movie?"
Ladybug: "This ceiling has no grass"
Funny, I didn't hear either of them say the short run time was a bad thing- and yet everyone else seems to have heard that.
For a directorial debut. This was very good and the director has potential
The way I saw Diana's rules working was that: 1) regular light causes her to become invisible and intangible, 2) the blacklight neutralized her ability to disappear, and 3) she could move through a lighted area - she just can't interact with anything while it's lit. *Spoilers below*, though.

Lol I never actually watch these scary movies but I like to hear Brad talk about them. He has a sexy voice. XD
She was a drummer for Spinal Tap (missing 15 mins.)
I'm so glad they made a movie of the old Lights Out America game.
I really enjoyed this film, though I haven't seen the Conjuring 2, so I don't know how it compares. the loud ass white girls in my theater made this cinematic experience strangely better. They screamed every five minutes.
boomzilla86 pretty much. they screamed at the scenes I expected them to scream at.
They must have wanted to watch it again tonight, because they were sitting right behind me. As if this gd movie wasn't loud enough already.
Word Unheard lol!
my whole theater made the movie better lol
Nice review, my partner and I was thinking about going to see this. May check it out now, thanks man.
Army of Darkness is like 75 minutes, and that's not a bad thing.
I'd be okay if that movie was 3 hours.
literally no one said it was.
OK, I need to watch the movie again just for the photos. I didn't notice that.
comical review, thanks guys. def the best duo
*definitely
I love the offscreen ladybug's onscreen appearance about 31:20
I was so happy when you said Billy Burke's in this, but then immediately bummed that he dies in the first scene. You can't tease me like that!
Brad, you should review Ice Age 5 with Allison.
The little 3 min. short that this movie is based from, is one of the scariest, most effective things I've ever watched. Also called Light's Out. The movie looks okay to me and I do want to see it, but that short is what I've shown to many people when they ask for something scary.
Can't wait for Brad to see the trailer for Ouija 2
It's surprisingly really good looking
In regards to the DCFS lady (at least here in Illinois) if a parent is the legal guardian and calls in to inform them that her child has been removed, even by a family member, then they have to bring the kid back home. Sorry, Brad, but the correct poem for shooing a ladybug is "Ladybug, Ladybug, fly away home, your house is on fire, your children do roam."
A reason for the ghost having strange rules might be because of the short it's based on.
I liked the the "wait wtf?!" feel I got from the short so an extended version doesn't appeal. Glad you guys had a good time though, you see enough shit horror films.

I liked it more than I thought. I wonder if they plan to make a movie of Suckablood as well...
I'll be the blasphemous asshole who says. "I liked Brad's review of Ghostbusters."
Maybe what a film could do with the 8MM film trope is show 2 characters, one with a modern camera &/or iPhone while the other has an older camera (maybe for a photography course or something) but in the modern tech nothing shows up but with the older tech you can see the ghosts/demons/etc. Give some explanation why with all this tech that the unseen aren't seen with cameras everywhere.

i saw it this morning. it was really nice. it wasnt what i thought it was.
the driveway scene was the best
Teresa Palmer was in Take me Home tonight with Topher Grace early in her career.... It's under-rated.....
I was pretty scared by this movie actually. I've seen tons and tons of horror films and not many of them were more scary, the only one I can say was for sure more scary would probably have to be The Thing
So Brad, our of the horror films you've seen this year (The Witch, Conjuring 2, Lights Out etc.) which one would you say is the scariest?
Nice review, I want to see this sometime. Don't let people bother you, the defenders of Ghostbusters remake are a bunch of kids with bad attitudes. I hate what they did to that movie. You guys stay honest and awesome, your reviews are great and entertaining.
I thought that (SPOILER) when the boyfriend left, he would come back with, like, a butt-load of high-powered portable lights from HOME DEPOT; it never occurred to me that he'd bring the cops...
You can see dawn turn to night in the background
I'm pretty sure the main girl was also the love interest in Warm Bodies
Megan Watson you mean the protagonist? the love interest was the zombie dude.
Saw this last night and was waiting for the mom to have a nightmare on elm street moment get drunk and say "lock lock lock" don't know why
She would lock them in the house
creepy hand in the back at 37:50. your back seat is haunted.
lol
You guys mean Teresa Palmer? She was in Warm Bodies I believe...
"You have Democrats and you have Republicans . . . "
Dear sir, I'm a Communist!
I. Want. Those. Glasses.
Anything with Teresa Palmer in it is fantastic!
Ran the point break remake....
I loved it! It was fucking terrifying!
Ok I've stopped watching at 2:50 as it would appear you both agree this movie is ok and fun to watch, right?
I don't like to have my horror movies spoiled too much and I plan to watch this one, as I'm a fan of the original short and it's creator.

there was a bug on your shirt at 31:00 dude
... Ok then. That definitely needed to be pointed out.
it's the ladybug
It's funny that since the director confirmed that this takes place in the same universe as Shazam!/DCEU, in hindsight the ghost was probably a metahuman
Wow!!!, first ,for the first time!!! i better don't make any stupid joke
Great review Brad!!! ;)
Its a solid movie with some good scares. Its good right before October where the real spooks happen.
You the greatest, i got some money coming in and i want that Jesus bro dvd
I'm so jealous of your crickets.
Pretty sure those are cicadas.
Man I just want me some chirping bugs in the evening, you know what I'm sayin'?
+Wulfen017 Cicadas do not chirp, they whine. It is ear-piercingly annoying. Nobody wants to hear cicadas.
Better than ghostbusters
Brian's glasses though.
Geez, how HOT was it in Springfield for this...? >_
hotter than, insert famous female's name here. it's too hot for me to think of a clever reply.
This movie made me laugh all the way. I am not kidding. The cellphone scene and the car scene got the entire theater laughing. I am in Argentina so probably is a cultural thing maybe that for us it was more like a comedy in how unrealistic and easily solvable the situation was.

Yay, you'rte back.
I had a snob reaction when watching this. When the SPOILERS
Mother shoots herself at the end and it cuts away as she pull the trigger, I said, "Shot herself right in the off-camera"
I think I liked the reactions to the feedback more than the review of the movie.
To be fair, it's based off of a 4 minute short film.
Never begin with "to be fair." Also, we know.
+Stoned Gremlin Productions To be fair, no its cool.
then this wasnt a midnight screening if it was at 6 oclock
These screenings haven't been at midnight since 2012.
Stoned Gremlin Productions oh wow
hashtag, slaver Brian
hack frauds!
I think this film is based of/extended version of a 2013 short film that is here on you tube...it's like part of 3 minute horror film series and it's quite creepy for what it is...a little independent short.
Indeed it is!
Would you happen to have a link?
Monroville
Honestly you could just google Lights Out short film, I don't have any links in particular.
that's why it was so short!
So, if you shoot the *entity/whatever it is* while the black light is on it will actually be shot?
And why does this thing exist to begin with?
are you guys ever going to review BFG?
I can so relate to Brian. Twitter confuses me. I get tge appeal of it, but the interface is a pain so fuck it back to aggressively posting, passive aggressive sticky notes!
11:15 I agree wholeheartedly
I haven't watched the video yet, but all these comments are about short movies so I'll chime in with all 3 Evil Dead movies.
Teresa Palmer. Warm Bodies,I am number 4, take me home tonight and many more
Y'all are talking about quick movies... Ever seen the new Winnie The Pooh film? That was a short showing, even with the little cartoon before it.
So the ghost was Alma Wade with Porphyria?
Markiplier would love this film. #MarkiplierLurvsMannequins
36:30
Among the many MANY other problems with man of steel.
Hey, who is in the back seat? 5:08?
Leddie
to be fair I don't have anything usefull to say
37:49 the fuck is that behind brad?
Leddie, she is a little camera shy.
Brian has a lady bug on his shoulder 31:00
I remember House on Haunted Hill.
I hated the sequel.
I thought Lights out was good for a pg-13 movie....BUT it could have been better.
really needed to be longer
Isn't that also the name of a game?
You guys always talk about 'the devil inside' but fuck it if I've seen a midnight screening of it
Because there isn't one :)
Stoned Gremlin Productions+ Really thats to bad. You guys rant about and reference tht movie so much during your horror screenings it would've been cool to see a review about it.
He did review it. It was several years ago in a V-log with Jerrid. Not sure if it's still on his site or not.
You could watch Film Brain's Bad Movie Beatdown review of it, it's the only reason I know that movie exists
I would love to be the boyfriend's bro'!
I thought this looked so gimmicky
Have you seen the short film it's based on? Gimmicky, but really creepy. You should check it out, it's only like 2 minutes.
Sounds like DARKNESS FALLS.
Except Darkness Falls sucks.
It was also heavily re-edited before it's theatrical release (and apparently, akin to HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, the prosthetic creature was replaced by CGI). +Monroville cool, doesn't make the movie any less shitty though.
FriendLee93
heh heh LOL (shrugs shoulders + troll face)
this review was half as long as the movie.
Ghostbusters remake is the single greatest movie ever made bar non
7:20 to 8:35 is 75 minutes not 70 🤨🧐
This movies story is straight up stolen from a creepypasta called THE ABSTERGO MAN.

Can't you just say, "You guys rule!" and that's it?🙄
@@jimmymelendez1836 LOL bro why you so mad over a 6 year old comment and one in which was complimentary to the creators?!? 😂😂😂
I didn't like Babadook so I'm going to avoid this
Did you guys notice that the woman who comes in to tell Billy Burke that she is 'just locking up' for the night is the same actress that was the main character in the short film version (original) of this movie?...;)
Except this time, they let her survive...noice.
I have seen some short (horror) movies.. but I can't name a single one, lol.
