I'm always mystified why none of the Purgers seem to understand that someone could just walk up and purge THEM at any moment. It's like they think that if you're participating, you have some sort of immunity.
wasn't it revealed that a good percent of the people are hired by the government to kill people during the purge to basically make people want to kill or something stupid like that?
The first Purge has exactly one plot point that matters. Ethan Hawk's family saves an African American guy from being purged, so this guy is truly thankful for his life and hatred of The Purge. Thus setting up his involvement with the revolting Gang. He's the only guy to appear in all three Purge Movies. But since he's a minor character, it doesn't really matter.
I agree The Purge series has become really entertaining I'm happy they didn't try to take an ultra realistic gritty tone instead they're getting more ridiculous and it's just fun
Yes. I'm very aware of that. But this movie in particular, seems like an advanced rip off of the Rick and Morty episode which was parodying the series.
+1Kenny30 I think they mean that the Rick and Morty episode based on the first movie inspired the third one. I personally don't think so (because making a movie takes a long time, and the episode didn't come out that long ago), but the episode did touch on the public killing their higher ups for benefiting off the carnage.
1Kenny30 Aside from the ridiculous dialogue, attempting to end the Purge, and the New Founding Fathers being portrayed as snobbish old assholes, which, as far as I can tell, is pretty much all Election Year is.
I actually saw the trailer for this Purge movie back to back with the spoof movie's (Meet the Blacks) trailer, when I was watching Deadpool in the theater.
+Jay I still love all the SAW movies but I won't deny that the ones after the first aren't as good. Although I really love SAW III and SAW VI. But I don't understand what you mean by "cheaper". Like... weren't the sequels on a bigger budget and had really good special effects compared to the first since it didn't even really show any effects and was a low budget independent film that was made in... how many days? 18?
I love calling this movie "Donald Trump: The Movie" and seeing my friend Brooke get angry and calling me a "dirty liberal" when I really have no political stance since I hate all the candidates
I really like the direction this series has taken. I always love in post-apocalyptic movies and such where you have people with highly-customized equipment and gear that they put together themselves, and this series definitely scratches that itch. Also, George St. Geegland? Holy shit, I'm wearing my "Oh, Hello" shirt as I type this.
"The People Under the Stairs" is a great reverse-home invasion film. It's a Wes Craven film where a group of people getting evicted break into their landlord's house to rob them, only to find dead bodies and weird pale cannibal children and shit.
I don't know if anyone else thought this but, when I was watching this movie, I felt like Frank Grillo should have been cast to play Max Payne instead of Mark Wahlberg.
The logic problems of the Purge (at least for me) applies to the first one only. It took itself way too seriously, as though it was a dire prophetic warning to us. "Be careful or this could be us..."
I think it's funny how they keep using the sound bite of Lena Headley's "The good the Purge does" from the first movie in ads for both this and "Anarchy". Neither sequels have anything to do with the events and characters of the first.
People in my theater clapped and cheered at those same scenes too! Clapped when the girls got killed and laughed at Joe Dickson's jokes! I'm glad the effect happened to others too! XD
Come on now. The super-polite male purger from the first film totally made watching that movie worth it. I've seen it more than once just because I love that character so much.
Is that movie you were talking about a hitchhiker that just happens to be walking into a Friday the 13th universe going around him a thing? Cause if not, it sounds like it would be amazing! Most likely a comedy, as long as it doesn't star Kevin Hart.
Man, when you were talking about how elaborate people were getting with their murders, I couldn't help but imagine that this would be, like, Burning Man for the homicidally insane. Instead of building, like, a Victorian house on a train or a dildo that dispenses Horchata, you spend all year planning and building ridiculous death machines. Then maybe equally insane but less creative sorts can go around admiring all of this year's installations, making idle conversation about what kind of finish they used on the guillotine frame, or whatever. :P
I disagree about The Purge I, the concept mattered for the ending. It's a credit to the concept that it could be expanded on effectively for the second and third movies.
What I would like to see is a prequel like "The Purge: Year One". First scene could be a TV debate about is the Purge morale? Will this really improve the economy? The debate ends with one person saying that they don't think anything will change all that much, because they don't think that many people will take part in the Purge as people are morale and won't resort to their baser animal instincts. Then as Purge night begins there are a lot more people on the streets to start the night, because yeah maybe they don't think it's going to be a murder spree, there are a lot more homeless people, there would probably even be some stupid news crew out covering the first Purge. And at first it is pretty slow some vandalism, some petty theft etc., but then as the night goes on it slowly builds and builds and builds until it becomes a blood bath as people realize that they truly can get away with anything. And of course it turns into a blood bath as there are more people outside, security systems aren't that great, not everyone has weapons to defend themselves.
I always assumed the reason why the purge went through is because the founding fathers were just warlords in disguise. Because I really don't see what else would call themselves new founding fathers and be not only taken seriously but like a sacred order
what I would love to see is the jackass crew either participating the purge or being the "heros of the movie" that use shenanigans to get out of almost being killed; like mad max meets a shenanigans movie XD
I never had any interest in this series, thinking it was too disturbing of an idea, but now I want to see it! Also, the hookers were the funniest part of "Phonebooth."
During the pendulum scene, once they get past it & are leaving, you can hear the guy who set it up in the distance say "oh well, good luck tonight guys!" Lmao like he's about to kill them & when the pendulum doesn't succeed he's like "meh, fuck it, break a leg out there, y'all!"
I have had people applaud movies in Australia. Usually its in either kids movies or completely brainless blockbusters like Fast and The Furious or something
I'm so glad the sequels are actually worth a damn. The first one was such bullshit. They came up with an INCREDIBLE premise for expansion and wasted it on a c-rate home invasion flick.
I so badly wanna see a movie set in this universe, where a bunch of pensioners are trying to get their pension back from the bank, so they make this Pensioners' Eleven type gang and go in, fighting the evil bank owner and his guards.
this movie just recently came out here and I really wish UK audiences were more laughy and cheery. like applauding is a bit too much but I was the only one laughing at the deli man's chicken line and I felt so embarrassed
Not surprised but on a 10 million dollar budget it's made 30 million already.I leaned over to my friend and told him how they are probably going to do a sequel. Then not a minute later it's like "not everyone likes the abolishment of the perge".I got it right, or they may Dona prequel but they are definitely doing a sequel soon.like the next two years i bet. Also is it me or was the ending like the Rick and Morty Perge episode.
I hate the concept of the purge movies, they make literally zero sense and just come off as written by idiots. HOWEVER! The movies are also fun, and thats a pretty damn good reason to watch a movie. So if this is your thing, by all means! but I still think it's an interesting premise with so little intelligence
That's kind of the point. I'm not saying you're one of them, but many people seem to be under the impression that these movies are trying to be serious.
First one was an okay film but when they expanded on it it became retarded. And the only way any of that would work is if it was worldwide not just in one country. The concept of it's based on the whole planetary stability through population control. But turned into a race-baiting identity politics bullshit. With the overall setup/look for the movies being too close to half-ass put together video game.
I was at an In and Out restaurant in Sacramento around midnight and I happened to have my 7x7 Rubiks cube. I was trying to solve it and when I got to the counter she asked me where I got my cube because she had never seen one like mine before and I said from China via eBay and I sat down to wait for my order as the girl at cashier helped 2 more customers. After having helped the two customers she turned to me and asked "Is that like a fidget spinner? Being the asshole that I am I said back, "It's like a fidget spinner for smart people". After I realized what I said was really rude, I figured out that there is already a generation that doesn't even know what a Rubik's cube is. Or on UA-cam a guy doing a review on Cher's new album with nothing but ABBA covers and not knowing ABBA enough to know that all the songs were covers and none of them were originals. This is the original video, not trying to be mean, just that he doesn't know what Dancing Queen. ua-cam.com/video/JIBwFrzQL0E/v-deo.html
Is it wrong that I want a fourth Purge movie to just be a dark comedy inspired by the Louisville Purge, where Ice Cube and some other actors break into a zoo and steal zoo animals?
I will say this movie played with a concept I've always liked, the idea that when the cavalry shows up they're actually worse than the people you've been fighting. The scenario being that you're totally surrounded by lunatics trying to kill you, suddenly they all get gunned down by disciplined militaristic figures, and just as you feel a sense of relief you see the swastikas and confederate flags. That immediate swing between: "Oh thank god, I've been saved from the nutcases." turns into: "Ohhhh shit...these guys are Neo-Nazi's aren't they? Fuck......:" I dunno, just a funny concept to me.
there's a creepypasta I read where I guy breaks into a house and the family is being slowly killed and eaten by a monster and he has to try and get out
"And we are sitting here like a bucket of fried chicken"
10/10
The ad before this review of the movie was the trailer for this movie
Always funny when that happens
I'm always mystified why none of the Purgers seem to understand that someone could just walk up and purge THEM at any moment. It's like they think that if you're participating, you have some sort of immunity.
I keep expecting the group of bad guys in these movies getting murdered by some other group and so on, like a vicious cycle.
***** I know right? They ought to have ME writing these.
+Moonwatcher19 Yesssss exactly. I love this image now.
Doug Walker is right, The Purge should be a horror comedy. Now THESE movies are something that should be remade in the future.
The first movie should have ended with the homeowner guy tossing a hand grenade through the mail slot.
why in these movies does everybody go on a murder spree instead of robbing a bank or just stealing super valuable shit and getting rich
Some people probably do, but they're not the main focus of the movies
wasn't it revealed that a good percent of the people are hired by the government to kill people during the purge to basically make people want to kill or something stupid like that?
I'd imagine the roving bands of murderous psychopaths actually do a lot to discourage looters
Like the Baltimore Police Dept!
Because the maniacs that kill each other will kill the robbers too. Better not risk it no matter how much you want shit.
I'm still in shock they made a sequel to the first one, never mind two sequels.
The movies are insanely profitable, so it's not really that shocking.
I'm more surprised that the second is better than the first, by a long margin!
So its the new Paranormal Activity?
It's not like the first one set the bar all that high.
Seemed more like the second one was just being what the first one _should_ have been.
+ToastyMozart I saw Anarchy and its like if the Punisher were in an Escape From New York ripoff and it's AWESOME.
I hated the kid for
letting him in
Man...I miss midnight screenings with Brian
The Purge series is just such a fun set of flicks, well the second one onward but still cannot wait to see the 3rd one tonight.
How do you know they are a fun set of flicks, from the second one onwards when you say you have yet to see the third one?
How is one film a "set"?
my thoughts exactly!!!
I agree The Purge series has become really entertaining I'm happy they didn't try to take an ultra realistic gritty tone instead they're getting more ridiculous and it's just fun
+Z Film Reviews No, he's right, your comment made no sense.
You know what happens when you forget what time the Purge ends?
............Jail
So, the writers of this movie saw the Rick and Morty Purge episode and decided to make it a full length film?
No
The first purge movie came out before Rick and Morty.
OH MY GOD, THERE'S A THIRD ONE...
I was in this! I'm in the crowd during the debate scene towards the beginning.
I fucking loved the ad campaign for this movie.
Make ads great again!
I thought the guy in the back at 4:11 was about to do some purging himself.
I almost shitted myself when I saw him heading towards Brads car. Thought he was It from It follows
I actually saw the trailer for this Purge movie back to back with the spoof movie's (Meet the Blacks) trailer, when I was watching Deadpool in the theater.
Tripping on acid + Brad Jones voice = pure ecstasy
I think the Purge could be the next Saw in terms of a franchise.
I can see that.
Except Saw 1 didn't suck, according to most people I ask
At least with The Purge, they realized that they ran out of ideas and stopped.
+Kev I loved saw 1, but as the franchise went on the movies got cheaper and got worse.
Purge the musical needs to be a thing
I love calling this movie "Donald Trump: The Movie" and seeing my friend Brooke get angry and calling me a "dirty liberal" when I really have no political stance since I hate all the candidates

This was honestly the most fun I've had at the movies in a long time
Snap everything the deli man said had the audience in hysterics. Especially the chicken line.
Of course I get a Purge Election Year commercial before this
People in my theater clapped and cheered at those same scenes too! Clapped when the girls got killed and laughed at Joe Dickson's jokes! I'm glad the effect happened to others too! XD
the 1st PURGE movie
we used to call that
JUST A NORMAL NIGHT
except with more blunt objects
and alot more creative uses
of the word :
" FUCK "
Nice Freddy sweater.
Come on now. The super-polite male purger from the first film totally made watching that movie worth it. I've seen it more than once just because I love that character so much.
I didnt know about this movie until I saw an add on my xbox yesterday. XD I don't watch tv anymore but still, I'm shocked.
The Sergeant ages gracefully since the second happens in the 6th Purge
I'm black and that chicken line is fucking hilarious. Who the fuck wrote this script?
I (and about a million other ppl) have a porno spoof idea: The Purge - Erection Year
Get somebody to make it, then the Snob shall review it
I am so happy slaver brain is back
Is that movie you were talking about a hitchhiker that just happens to be walking into a Friday the 13th universe going around him a thing? Cause if not, it sounds like it would be amazing! Most likely a comedy, as long as it doesn't star Kevin Hart.
38:00 the movie in question is Secuestrados (2010).
Frogs (1972) is hilarious, I highly recommend that
I went to clone wars for my birthday when it came out, and everyone applauded when Yoda showed up and fought Dooku.
Man, when you were talking about how elaborate people were getting with their murders, I couldn't help but imagine that this would be, like, Burning Man for the homicidally insane. Well, we sort of got Stephen Lang in a Purge movie with *Don't Breathe*.
Blast Action dude get like Jon bernthal and corey stoles in a purge movie with Stephen Lang
Brad is jesus!!! Cinemasnob for president!!
+Joshua Marjonen
"Make America Dookieless Again!"
Make America Snark Again!
+Vanalovan
*🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🐱
The bucket of fried chicken line was so corny the audience busted out laughing.
I think it's hot the way Brad says "mother fucker".
I kinda see the purge movies as the sharknados of the big screen. We dont neccesarily watch it for the plot; we see the movies for fun in the theatres
I cannot believe there are *THREE* 'The Purge' movies...
I know what I'm gonna go see tonight, got shit all to do.
I always assumed the reason why the purge went through is because the founding fathers were just warlords in disguise. Because I really don't see what else would call themselves new founding fathers and be not only taken seriously but like a sacred order
So, you might say after watching this movie that it "feels good?"
Dennis O'Hare's character in AHS Hotel was transgender.
I am actually surprised Brad hasn't seen it yet, it's really good
I want more #purge. and by that, there needs to be a D20 purge tabletop game. I'd play that. -velmax
That Stephen Lang film sounds like the film version of whack the burglar
Well if they do keep making these hopefully it doesn't end up like Saw.
Saw started with a good movie, so I'm pretty sure The Purge won't ever get there.
Jonas King Yeah I only watched the first Saw and it was pretty good.
Purge is ridiculous and as long as people keep being aware of how dumb it is, it'll be fun at least.
saw this movie thanks to this review gr8 movie
Hey Brad are you going to see The BFG? I'm curious to see your review of it.
Doesn't Elizabeth Mitchell have a new show on Freeform?
Yo. The part where joe did the crip whistle I immediately died cause I recognized it.
You know who I wanna see in a Purge movie? Jon Bernthal's Punisher. That'd be fucking awesome
20:01 or for instance the tape from escape from New York
what I would love to see is the jackass crew either participating the purge or being the "heros of the movie" that use shenanigans to get out of almost being killed; like mad max meets a shenanigans movie XD
Isn't the new purge, the 4th one, a prequel that's what i heard
I never had any interest in this series, thinking it was too disturbing of an idea, but now I want to see it! Also, the hookers were the funniest part of "Phonebooth."
During the pendulum scene, once they get past it & are leaving, you can hear the guy who set it up in the distance say "oh well, good luck tonight guys!" Lmao like he's about to kill them & when the pendulum doesn't succeed he's like "meh, fuck it, break a leg out there, y'all!"
The poster and the name really remind me of PayDay 2.
Especially the election-rigging mission.
Forgot the most famous example of a character walking into an entirely different movie: Psycho
Hush is great. Check it out Brad along with We Are Still Here.
Which "The Collector" is he talking about?
the movie where the serial killer sets up a trap filled warehouse
the guy on the thumbnail on the movie poster looks like a really creepy Count Olaf
I want a Purge videogame
Its called Manhunt
just look up "GTA V Purge" and you're bound to find something
Audiences in America applaud in the cinema? That just sounds irritating xD
It's rare, but it happens. My favorite was when Walter Kovacs said "YOU'RE LOCKED IN WITH ME!" in Watchmen.
+Lotus Prince To be fair that line is godlike.
I notice it more at midnights than any other time.
I have had people applaud movies in Australia. Usually its in either kids movies or completely brainless blockbusters like Fast and The Furious or something
Uncle Fester
That generally happens, stuff like Avengers movies or Star Wars or whatever draws a big crowd. I don't get it either.
the purge movies
should show more cities
purging
Does this one connect plot wise with "Anarchy"?
Leo Barnes is in both movies, so I think so...
Michael Bay trying to be mature.
+Stefan Sharak
And yet, Michael Bay still fails miserably at that.
+Doughboy Devito he trying too hard
He made The Rock and Pain & Gain...Island wasn't too bad either.
+Clay3613 swing and a miss
Would you guys got see Swiss Army Man? I think you'd have a lot to talk about lol
I'm so glad the sequels are actually worth a damn. The first one was such bullshit. They came up with an INCREDIBLE premise for expansion and wasted it on a c-rate home invasion flick.
So... two months from now?
I so badly wanna see a movie set in this universe, where a bunch of pensioners are trying to get their pension back from the bank, so they make this Pensioners' Eleven type gang and go in, fighting the evil bank owner and his guards.
Hey brad, why don't you make a Home Invasion movie?
this movie just recently came out here and I really wish UK audiences were more laughy and cheery. like applauding is a bit too much but I was the only one laughing at the deli man's chicken line and I felt so embarrassed

Brad,
What's your favorite movie of all time?
+Jim D
It's OBVIOUSLY "ET the porno".
:P
He's gone in record to say Caligula is his favorite movie many times.
Hated the first Purge. Liked the second one quite a bit. Will check out part 3.
2nd?
I hate the concept of the purge movies, they make literally zero sense and just come off as written by idiots.
HOWEVER!
The movies are also fun, and thats a pretty damn good reason to watch a movie.
So if this is your thing, by all means!
but I still think it's an interesting premise with so little intelligence
That's kind of the point. I'm not saying you're one of them, but many people seem to be under the impression that these movies are trying to be serious.
Agreed. The movies are fun if you can just turn off your brain and ignore the ridiculously stupid premise.
Yep, Hush is pretty good.
I will say this movie played with a concept I've always liked, the idea that when the cavalry shows up they're actually worse than the people you've been fighting. FRIDAY the 13th part 4
there's a creepypasta I read where I guy breaks into a house and the family is being slowly killed and eaten by a monster and he has to try and get out
Wow that story actually sounds scary, what's the name of the story?
+missourigreen051 I don't remember but I think I heard it read by eather Mr creepypasta creepypasta Jr or Warlock boo
