The inconvenient truth is Apple makes too much money from the iPad (as a mobile OS) to even consider loading MacOS onto it.
Apple is not allergic to money, if they see a path to take more of your money they will do it. If iPad ran MacOS it would not cannibalize the MBA just like the Surface Pro doesn't cannibalize the Surface Laptop.

This is ludicrous. The M series iPads can do everything the MacBook Air can do and more. The only thing artificially limiting it, is Apple itself. And they specifically do it, to push you into buying both a tablet and laptop/desktop.

Yep, unless you make money from mobile games like World of Tanks Blitz, Genshin Impact or Assasins Creed, there is literally no need to upgrade. Max Tech showed that the newer iPad’s did absolutely nothing more than the older iPad’s with photo exports and video editing due to software limitations. Apple even put 12 GB of RAM in an M4 base model iPad, and lets the system use 8 GB… yes it does keep a few more things open then my M1 iPad Pro… but do I really care if an app I haven’t used for 3 days stays open or not. Especially for the price? I returned my M4 iPad Pro.

There was a time where I would use the iPad because of weight limitations on some international flights. A suitable MacBook with enough power would have been too heavy. That’s over now. So it comes down to the apps you use. I prefer Capture One on the Mac and don’t like the iPad version. I use LumaFusion for a quick edit on site, but that runs on MacOS now as well. And I need my Photoshop Plugins, which are not available on iPad. Makes it an easy choice for me. But it may be completely different for someone else

I have both an M1 Max Macbook Pro and an 11" iPad Pro, and I use the iPad Pro 75% or more of the time. It's smaller, lighter and convenient for me to carry with me everywhere. And it does almost everything I need to do. I have the Macbook for those few things that I don't want to do or can't do on my iPad. So for me the iPad isn't dead, and I have no desire to have MacOS on it.

When the new m4 is made more power efficient, Apple decided to make the ipad thinner, instead of letting we have more battery life. And what I hate the most is the browsers have less capabilities than the desktop versions. So many work these days run on web apps, ane the iPad app versions of those apps usually very limited.

Thank you for the great video, Jerry! I'm still running an M1 Macbook Pro, and the decision about my next machine is really tough. I never take my laptop from it's permanent location on my desk, sitting in a vertical stand. Because of that, my next Mac will be one of the desktop models. An iPad pro takes care of all of my portable needs. This leaves me with the Mini or the Studio. I don't NEED the power of the studio, but it seems to be more future proof with its base configuration having 32GB of ram.

Thanks to the ARM chips, Macs and iPads provide the best technology in each category, e.g., PCs, laptops, and tablets. Apple improves on technology every 18 months with significant technological gains, which was impossible with Intel. Depending on your user requirements, the Mac, iPad, or both can cover them.
Here’s my opinion: Now that Macs have the M chips, Apple’s strategy for the iPad is to develop new workflows around the Apple Pencil or touch-first. Examples of this approach are Math Notes, Smart Script, Final Cut Pro for iPad, Logic Pro for iPad, and Procreate. Apple is pushing the iPad in a different direction than Macs, but there is still an 80% overlap in capabilities between the two devices.
Apple is ahead of Microsoft thanks to the continuous development of the Mac and the iPad.

why bother putting the M4 in the iPad Pro if Apple doesn't have a plan for it? I have the 13 inch replacing my gen 1 12.9 and the difference between the two in terms of speed and some apps and stage manager is night and day. But its so locked down that I still revert back to my intel 14th gen gaming desktop and X1 Yoga. If they could add better file management (the biggest fail I think), fix the bugs in stage manager, fix the audio issues and encourage desktop class apps - like AI denoise in Lightroom etc most of the complaints would disappear. I've never understood the interest in making the iPad the primary mobile computing device. For me, the iPad is for content consumption; the MacBook is for creation. I recently bought an iPad Air to support my 2020 14" MacBook Pro (base model). The MacBook can do all of what the iPad can do, and more, but the iPad can't do what the MacBook can do. If you need just one device, get a laptop - the newer MacBook Airs look very good, a good combination of power and portability.
I'm in the fortunate position of being able to own both types of device, but each has its own role.

Basically Apple is trying to impose an over 1000€ device (pro) as a “companion”. Heck, why would anyone (unless professionally it makes kind of sense like designers) spend that huge amount of money, if there are better alternatives (Air or Samsung Tab S8 for 500€ 120 Hz LCD or the S9 with 120 Hz OLED ) to have a “companion” or tablet?
Besides, now there are tones of ARM based Windows laptops that have touchscreen and OLED and are fully functional. Why buy a Mac + iPad? Of course there are people fully into Mac / Apple, but even for those, I see no point going MacBook + IPad Pro M4. I would but a refurbished or second hand iPad Pro without a keyboard and call it a day.

I recently joined a new company and the laptop they gave me was heavy af. I travel a lot for work, so I thought I'll get an ipad for work too, but I already have an ipad pro from 4 years ago, which is still going to get the latest ipados update. So I tried to use it for work, which will entail Microsoft Office. Unfortunately, the mobile version of office is dog sh!t, meaning I don't get the full version, so it's not ideal for me. If only the ipad Pro runs macos as an alternative, that would mean I'll get to use the full version of office for my work while I'm travelling... Alas, that's not to be the case.
But this is a chicken and egg scenario. Should Microsoft make full version offce available on mobile devices like the ipad? Or should Apple make macos available on the ipad Pro? To be honest, it's easier if Apple just makes macos available on the ipad Pro... Then I'll just run the full version of office on macos instead of the crappy mobile version...

I buy an Ipad because I love the whole system, I got my first one years ago and never looked back at computers.
Just like most everyday people, most young people and people like me we get our work done on a telephone or a tablet, and if you are a musician like me the Ipad is the best tablet. And the one with the fastest processor will last me the longest.
All these people telling they stick to their M1 Ipad confirm that and since I have seen what Logic pro did to my old Ipad with the ai, it convinced me that the fastest (M4) will be the best.
