    There's also a stigma in my country where "dry hair" is not appealing and that I should always get my hair (chemically) straightened. I was young back then and my family would always tell me to get it straightened (or 'rebonded' as what it is called in my country) and I did it four times since 2014. Now I'm older I realized that my hair was severely damaged from that process and it took me a long time to know that my hair was just curly after all and not dry (just like your hair type). Although it is convenient to have the hair rebonded, it is very damaging and i specifically would not recommend so and i'd rather find ways to maintain the hair in its best condition.

    FYI: Keratin treatments, relaxers, and thermal reconditioning / Japanese straightening are entirely different processes. They are not different names for the same thing. It sounds like what you had done was thermal reconditioning aka Japanese straightening.

    • @TracyD2
      @TracyD2 Рік тому +17

      It is basically the same. It breaks the di-sulfide bonds and then you reform it. The way they break might be a different chemical but they are breaking non the less. It will damage hair eventually. Some peoples hair might be stronger and they can get it done once or twice with not much issue and their hair might even look better but it is still a damaging treatment. Like those people who can bleach hair 6 levels and still look good, for now. Doing a keratin treatment like Aphogee 2 step where it’s just adding protein that is a different story and not the keratin treatment where they use the flat iron. My issue is how they market it as a treatment that is healthy for their hair. People fell for it hook line and sinker. Even stylists lol. Don’t have to believe me there are FINALLY more articles on it. Even in allure magazine.

      Thats true. I had done Keratin and Japanese straightening and theyre very different. Keratin makes your hair less frizzy and easier to style but Japanese straightening makes your hair pin straight until your new hair grows and you cut the treated part off

    I have been straightening my hair every 1.5 - 2 years for the past 8 years. My hair is still healthy, and I consistently use a serum and hair mask. Chemical hair straightening actually ruined my life tbh. My hair fell out gradually and after 3 years of the treatment i am diagnosed with female pattern hair loss . Everything got messed up then. Yeah its gonna be diff for others but i don't really recomend this ,do things that work out for your curls instead. Wished i could realized it sooner

      if you get it done only once in a while with a LOT of time in between like 3-5 years, you should probably be okay. I highly recommend against getting it back to back for maintenance (like when you dye your hair and get it refreshed). Also, you can always consult with your hairstylist!

Yet as women we all struggle with self-acceptance. Wasting so much of our time and money to look acceptable to a society that doesn't even respect our human rights. But yes, let's be depressed about frizzy hair.

    • @TracyD2
      @TracyD2 Рік тому +2

      Your mom probably didn’t know. Some stylists don’t even know much about it. Sad to say. Not all will straighten hair straight but all of the treatments break hair bonds and are forced to reform into a different hair pattern. Some treatments even wear off after months. The damage doesn’t that’s the problem.

      it depends, every hair absorbs the solution differently.
      even tho my friends hair stayed straight for a year, which is pretty long, she didnt take great care of her hair which led her to frizzy curly tangled hair. (her hair routine is literally just shampoo and water)
      on the other hand, mine didnt even last for 2 MONTHS, yet my hair grew out to be soft and smooth as i actually had a hair routine
