Hi there. I noticed in your MP4 settings you had an option for 1080 @ 24p. My G85 does not have that option. It's a US model. Do you know how I can get 24p on my model? Thanks!

@@vinesh_ninnurkar Our USA model only offers 24P in 4k mode. On my G7 I could go into Service mode and it opened up all the settings for NTSC and PAL video, I don't know if the same is true for the G85. In Service mode it gave unlimited 4k recording (vs. standard 30 minutes ) but it made an ! mark in yellow when you turned it off.( to alert you it was in Service mode ) Google service mode for the G85 and see if there is a way to do it. I recorded for hours at a time on the G7 and it never hurt anything. The USA model has unlimited time recording where the PAL version I think does not. You can always record in 4k 24P and down sample. That is what I do. AVCHD has a 1080P 24fps option at 24 Mbps.

you should still record in 4k for better sharpness, then convert down to 1080p after (i made my own ffmpeg script for good quality at small size, usually ends up 20-30mbit from the original 100)
Ahoj, super návody a díky za ně. Je zde nějaká možnost, jak v náhledu nastavit zobrazování celkového času/zbývajícího místa na kartě? Přijde mi strašně nepřehledné, že kamera ukazuje a odečítá stále jen těch 29:59s(po každém stopnutí). Při natáčení si kolikrát potřebuji rozvrhnout délky různých scén a k tomu bych potřeboval vědět, kolik ještě můžu točit(kolik mi zbývá celkového času nebo místa na aktuální kartě). Opravdu nezbývá nic jiného, než to prostě jen odhadovat a doufat, že se člověk trefí? Jinak tušíš kolik celkového času dá 128GB karta při 4k 24p 100Mb?

no, those are only 2 specifications of the lens, but not the entire name of the lens model & brand, sometimes all the info is written on the front of the lens if the lens is fixed aperture, it will always be 1.7, similar to how a fixed zoom lens cant change the mm but maybe another possibility is the lens doesnt communicate with the camera & needs to be manually controlled? you need to find info on the exact lens model you have

So I am having difficulty with my G85 when shooting motion picture at 4K 24fps I get jitter when i move the camera. Even on the Gimbal. But the 1080 @ 60fps looks very smooth. What am I missing? Kit Lens - Stabilization on or off same results.

That is interesting and pretty difficult question, there is a bit of crop in 4K but less than GH4's crop, so I think that it does a bit of oversampling. I don´t think that it uses line skipping or pixel binding, since I haven't had issues with artifacts.
The Hybrid Shooter Thanks for the quick reply! I'm stuck between this and the Fuji XT-20. I take about 60% videos and 40% photos and want an all-around great camera. While the G80 has IBIS, weathersealing, better battery and a smoother AF for video, the Fuji has bigger sensor and better low low light capability plus a faster AF. Which is to prefer by your opinion?
You're actually the second one asking that today, unfortunately I don't own any Fujifilm camera, so I can't provide any practical experiences, but specs seem to be very good, controls as well, their kit lens is also great, but I can't really evaluate it without using it, sorry about that. I did consider buying X-T2 but I went with Sony A6500 instead.
I don't have the XT20, but I've had the X-E1, X-E2, X100T, and used a friend's XT-10. The video on the Fuji's, at least at 1080p, is far inferior. I picked up a Panasonic G7 a little while ago and it is leagues better in offering things like the zebra pattern and although the AF is slow-ish in video, the Fuji's I've used either don't AF at all in video or are very wonky about whether they decide to do any focusing. I've sold all of my Fuji's except for the X-E2 which I use for stills only (I don't even have the movie record button bound to anything), and it is great in low light high ISO situations with a prime or two. The Panasonic G7 is definitely inferior for still images at the same ISO's, however the video is massively superior and has much less noise at high ISO settings than the Fuji. I primarily use it in 4k, then down sample to 1080 (looks amazing) or I crop out a 1080p portion of the 4k footage and slowly pan that window across a still scene... easy to do and it looks great. I think the Panasonics do some oversampling, because the noise difference was unbelievable to me - I thought the larger sensors would be clearly better. In fact, I also have a Canon 6D, and the Panasonic is about equal in terms of video noise to that camera despite the still images telling an entirely different story. I'll have to make a comparison video because it is very interesting.. though I've just sold off my G7 and purchased a G85 to replace it because I feel that the in body stabilization is a massive advantage for walking around taking videos. I think if you plan on doing more video than photos, the Panasonic would be a better choice for you too (or do what I've done, and run two concurrent systems by purchasing last-gen models on the cheap).
Thanks Bret for your long and informative answer. There is no perfect camera that does everything so I will propably end up buying two different systems. I really appreciate the ISO invariance that Fuji X-Trans sensors have for photos, and I really like the formfactor of the X-T20. The bigger APS-C sensor will make it easier to get nice bokeh and it will aid in low-light situations for photos. I also really like the lenses that Fuji has for their X-mount. The Panasonic G85 has IBIS that will help me tremendously when i'm filming handheld, and it is weathersealed so that I can film at places that I otherwise couldn't. I will also appreciate the SD-card slot that is located on the side of the camera, because I tend to change out SD-cards a lot when filming. Then also the quality is better for 4K video in the G85. Zebra pattern will be helpful. Good that you mentioned that you can take 4K video and pan from side to side with a 1080p portion of the frame! Didn't think that earlier. Then it will be important that the video looks good in 4K so that the details aren't washed out. Would maybe be trickier to do that with the Fuji. If my budget doesen't allow for the G85, I might end up with the GX85. It doesen't have a mic input but that's ok. I tend to sync the audio in post most of the time, and when I really need the mic input I can use the Fuji whch does have it. (I'm Adrian D. but I'm logged in with my other account so don't get confused!)
@@TheHybridShooter As well as the Lens quality and processing power needed and a phone being small. My iPhone 6S records very good 4k@30fps in very very good light. Above ISO 200 and it gets as noisy as ISO 6400+ on the G85. You are also limited to 28mm F2 which is around F8 or F10 in 35mm DOF terms. Everything is in general focus on a camera video even at the max aperture. If you have great light and 28mm is good, then the 6S does pretty well for a $200 used 4k smartphone with 64Gb Storage. ( what I paid for mine over a year ago in mint condition )
I recently deleted my video about it but definitely forget about using your phone. If you are really interested in video then better go for the G85/G81. IF you want to deliver content in good quality. The biggest problem even with an iPhone X is a) the limited Bitrate which may change due to unknown firmware updates for the phone b) absolut lack of custom white balance c) usually no control about the shutter *yes there are third party apps but they are almost unstable and from update to update you risk getting worse quality if they don't check for the older camera versions d) crap audio quality due to not offering 3.5mm jack's anymore.
In the movie mode I can not seem to get the camera to auto focus. It’s really annoying me, it only seems to auto focus in the iauto mode but then I can not adjust the exposure etc
try the shutter af option as well so you can choose when to auto focus while recording (i prefer to use this since the default auto focus goes crazy too much, though i think it's still enabled, just slower depending on the settings)

No, if you want continuous AF in video, you need to continuous AF on in the menu. I have made separate video about stills settings, you can find it on my channel.
Depends on the budget and what you want to shoot. 12-60mm F3.5-5.6 is great all-round kit lens, (there is a review on my channel) 7-14mm F4 ASPH is excellent ultra wide angle, 12-35mm F2.8 I and II are very sharp, but also pricey, 14-140mm F3.5-5.6 is very good ultrazoom, and 45-200 and 100-300 are very good choices for telephoto.
I have a 6 month daughter. That is why I want to shoot videos. I already have the Pana 42.5 1.7 I prefer primes, but I am worried about auto focus noise and speed. Any thoughts?
Basically all of new Panasonic lenses have silent focusing, focus speed is more of a problem with Panasonic camera bodies rather than with lenses. Panasonic 20mm F1.7 II is also very sharp and affordable.
The Hybrid Shooter I returned 13-35/2.8 and got Leica Vario 12/1.4 but I have an kitlens which also have dual stabilization maybe that’s why in my case 12/1.4 much better choice I can shoot in lowlight environment
Marcos Albers have tried to use old beautiful legacy lenses with adapter I mys of mostly shoot on those manuals like Helios 44-2 or takumars smc50/1.4 and they are within 100$ on ebay
I think setting your shutter speed in M mode for stills and then pressing video record button doesn't actually set the shutter speed for video. The camera will just ignore it and work in P mode in this case.
@@TheHybridShooter 2024 hello my friend :) Please clarify the C2 setup. I gather from your reply that you're choosing M (on the dial, for photos) and 16:9 display for the C2 movie settings as a workaround to get auto ISO for movies. Before recording the movie exposure mode option is greyed out in the menu. During recording A or S can't be adjusted. I can't tell from the EVF nor the EXIF if the camera switches to P during recording. I therefore gather that you don't mind to shoot movies in P in order to have auto ISO (up to 3200). Hope that was clear. Thanks for all your G80 info and tips, much appreciated.
@@KelvinSchwartzGrunlicht I have sold my G80 many years ago, so I unfortunately can’t help you with that. I think that this generation of Panasonic cameras uses P in every situation except when using video mode on the dial.

I found a large mirror meanwhile to practice with :) Haven't checked the footage yet but AF tracking was surprisingly good and I discovered pin point AF+MF and remain G80 hopeful. I know you weren't too keen on the G90 back in the day but one of its features is actually auto ISO in manual mode AFAIK. G90 and GH5 are similarly priced these days and have better DFD acc. to reviews and unlimited video recording (+30 minutes). Thanks again, best regards

No, it unfortunately won't, you can only do that in manual movie mode, you need to set the dial to some of other modes and then save it in some of the tabs in C2.

I would go with 1080p @60fps at any time of the day! I like the 4k micro four third sensor size, but the downsized 2k picture is just perfect imo. Much easier and smoother in editing and also when adding effects. Just saying...

The camera shown in this video is European G80, unfortunately, it is only possible to use frame rates that you can see in the menu.
But.... my gx85 is European.. and i dont see FHD 60fps in my list.. 30p max..

Ďakujem, na čas zostávajúci na karte sa to bohužiaľ prepnúť nedá, aspoň ja o tom neviem. Na 128GB kartu by sa mali zmestiť asi 3 hodiny 4K videa.

These issues are usually caused by the playback device or slow SD card.

hello my friend, when on c2 do you press the shutter button or the video record button to film?
It you set it to Manual movie, you can use shutter button.
On my G7 you can shoot with auto ISO in manual movie mode if you select aperture priority. Then you can use Cinelike D.
I bet it's the same on the g85
If you do that, camera will ignore your settings and switch to auto mode as soon as press the recording button.
If i want to put Luts on the Video in post do i have to record in a flat mode or just standard?
LUTs are usually made for specific picture style, so it depends on the LUT.

Could you compare this camera to a smartphone in video capability so to see whether it's worth buying an $1,000 camera or not?
Maybe in the future. No smartphone will ever be able to compete with real camera because of the sensor size.

In the movie mode I can not seem to get the camera to auto focus. It’s really annoying me, it only seems to auto focus in the iauto mode but then I can not adjust the exposure etc
You need to turn Continuous AF on in the video menu.
The Hybrid Shooter I have and when recording in M video it does not auto focus
There must be something wrong with your settings, G80 / G85 definitely can autofocus in M movie mode, check the AF switch on the camera on the lens.
try the shutter af option as well so you can choose when to auto focus while recording (i prefer to use this since the default auto focus goes crazy too much, though i think it's still enabled, just slower depending on the settings)

It is turned on by default, you probably need to raise levels.

Hi very interesting video. I just did not understand what you explained at 2:48 about the continuous focus ? If we already pic AFF don't that mean it is already continuous focus ? and what about the stills ? Sorry i m not super professional with different AF tracking modes.
No, if you want continuous AF in video, you need to continuous AF on in the menu. I have made separate video about stills settings, you can find it on my channel.

There is no way to set auto ISO and manual movie mode, you can use manual mode for still, set display area to 16:9 and use that to shoot video.

What are the best lenses for video on this camera?
Depends on the budget and what you want to shoot. 12-60mm F3.5-5.6 is great all-round kit lens, (there is a review on my channel) 7-14mm F4 ASPH is excellent ultra wide angle, 12-35mm F2.8 I and II are very sharp, but also pricey, 14-140mm F3.5-5.6 is very good ultrazoom, and 45-200 and 100-300 are very good choices for telephoto.
I have a 6 month daughter. That is why I want to shoot videos. I already have the Pana 42.5 1.7 I prefer primes, but I am worried about auto focus noise and speed. Any thoughts?
Basically all of new Panasonic lenses have silent focusing, focus speed is more of a problem with Panasonic camera bodies rather than with lenses. Panasonic 20mm F1.7 II is also very sharp and affordable.
The Hybrid Shooter I returned 13-35/2.8 and got Leica Vario 12/1.4 but I have an kitlens which also have dual stabilization maybe that’s why in my case 12/1.4 much better choice I can shoot in lowlight environment
Marcos Albers have tried to use old beautiful legacy lenses with adapter I mys of mostly shoot on those manuals like Helios 44-2 or takumars smc50/1.4 and they are within 100$ on ebay

I think setting your shutter speed in M mode for stills and then pressing video record button doesn't actually set the shutter speed for video. The camera will just ignore it and work in P mode in this case.

Please clarify the C2 setup.
I gather from your reply that you're choosing M (on the dial, for photos) and 16:9 display for the C2 movie settings as a workaround to get auto ISO for movies.
Before recording the movie exposure mode option is greyed out in the menu. During recording A or S can't be adjusted.
I can't tell from the EVF nor the EXIF if the camera switches to P during recording.
I therefore gather that you don't mind to shoot movies in P in order to have auto ISO (up to 3200).

I think that this generation of Panasonic cameras uses P in every situation except when using video mode on the dial.

I found a large mirror meanwhile to practice with :) Haven't checked the footage yet but AF tracking was surprisingly good and I discovered pin point AF+MF and remain G80 hopeful.
I know you weren't too keen on the G90 back in the day but one of its features is actually auto ISO in manual mode AFAIK.
G90 and GH5 are similarly priced these days and have better DFD acc. to reviews and unlimited video recording (+30 minutes).

You just need to flip the AF mode switch on the camera to AFS/AFF.

No, it unfortunately won't, you can only do that in manual movie mode, you need to set the dial to some of other modes and then save it in some of the tabs in C2.
Why do you use 25fps instead or 30fps?
To get the most natural amount of motion blur and to avoid flickering LED lights here in Europe.

If you mean full sensor 4:3, no, that is not possible on G85.

I would go with 1080p @60fps at any time of the day! I like the 4k micro four third sensor size, but the downsized 2k picture is just perfect imo. Much easier and smoother in editing and also when adding effects. Just saying...
Depends on your computer, I don't see the difference. 4K is much more detailed of course. 60p is also not suitable for everything.

Slow video setting
You should rename this video to "My Personal Video Settings For G85" because your title is misleading. You skipped settings because you felt they were useless but didnt say why and even said you had no clue what one setting even did. This is like a personal setup rather than explaining all the video settings.
