Beautifully paced.
Indeed .
Went for the final weekend of this festival in 1982 just for the craic, and what struck me most about Milltown Malbay was not just the sheer quality of the music but the number of pubs there. As a place, it was smaller than the village of Scone near Perth where I come from, but it had ten times the number of pubs, and every pub had a session in it. During my visit in 1982, I had great dreams of playing with some great Irish musicians, but the first guy I bumped into was a good mate of mine from Aberdeen, Kenny Hadden. However, I also did get the sheer pleasure of playing with the likes of Joe Burke and none other than The Chieftains themselves, who were my heroes at the time. What I enjoyed most of all about Milltown Malbay was they locked the doors at a certain time, not to keep musicians out, but to keep them in after hours. 😀
Thanks for sharing! It's a great place no doubt.
Is that the Kenny who posts on The Session..? He is very knowledgeable on tunes.
Lovely stuff... My mom's an O'Dwyer and her O'Dwyers - Philip O'Dwyer of Moyglass married to O'Gormans in Kilmurry Ibricken including Miltown Malbay... Moyglassmore and Doonogan etc... mighty stuff!!!
