Why are my aluminum TIG welding beads getting bigger and bigger?

  • Hello everyone.
    Today, it is about Tig welding aluminum after a long time.
    Sometimes when welding aluminum, the weld bead gets bigger and bigger.
    We've included a video of some tricks to solve that problem.
    Welding aluminum with pulse setting that applied that trick might make the job a little easier.
    Thanks for watching and have a nice week.

    you also can use the pulse in reverse.
    weld with normal current and lower the current when there is a pulse.
    you are using the pulse for cooling down.

    I reached these ways on my own and still I thought that I was doing wrong that no one did, but the quality of the welded seams satisfied me, and I didn't really bother.

    Generally I think you are a great welder, but in this particular case I have to tell you that using 4t and cutting off the current is not a great method for aluminum: whenever you cut off you see that the puddle freezes and you can see a tiny crack; when you restart you risk to not melt completley the last bead and So the risk is to have theese tiny cracks inside the bead, you don't see it from the outside, but it's still there.
    The problem is that aluminum, as material itself, whenever it's under vibrations, or stress, can suffer crack problems, even in non welded parts.
    It's a lot better to not cut off the current completly, or to use a pulse function, or a foot pedal (or something with similar function); it's not a great idea to put that stress in a bead, it's very different from steel, or stainless... Just a little suggestion, since I welded only aluminum for 8 years

      So, what do then?

    • @raulduke85
      @raulduke85 2 роки тому

      @@TheOneAndOnlySame as i said, better to use a pulse function, or a foot pedal; you don't have to let the puddle completly solidifies: you can als use a similar method to the 1 he shows here; you will use 2t, set your welding current high (as he did showing his method), then you set a downslope of the duration between 2 and 4 seconds. Then you just start welding, you create the puddle, put material, then you release the button, so you have the downslope, you watch your puddle getting smaller and the moment before it solidifies you push the button back to recreate the puddle, then add material and repeat.
      The fact is that you don't want to let the puddle solidifies without putting extra material (wich you do at the end of the bead), or to solidifies too fast, or cracks and/or fish eyes will occour.
      If you watch other videos in this channel it' s about the same technique when he shows the method to weld pipe without gap: in that case he set the function "repeat", anyway if you watch that video and see what the arc does, you can get the exactly same result with 2t and downslope method (remember that with this method, it's better to not let the arc stops, or you'll have to restart your arc pretty often and that's not good for your machine's hf board).
      I hope this can help

      I was curious about that. Is that your preferred method for aluminum? I like the looks of the NSWel machines, but the lack of a pedal gives me some pause.

    Nice video.
    You explained and showed it very well! 👍🏻
    What color was your wig needle (white, gray, pink, green, etc.) when welding aluminum? 🤔
    I once welded aluminum with a simple TIG device and used a foot pedal. This enabled me to reduce the amperage when welding. 😁

    • @weldHAGOJIBI
      @weldHAGOJIBI  2 роки тому +2

      The color of tungsten depends on the components contained in the electrode needle. The pros and cons are slightly different depending on the ingredients. The blue tungsten used in this video. Blue is tungsten with 2% lanthanum.

    • @gunterschone8402
      @gunterschone8402 2 роки тому

      Thanks for the detailed answer.
      Yes, it is true that the color corresponds to the composition of the ingredients.
      I weld almost exclusively with gray (WC 20 = 2% cerium oxide), which is just as good as the blue one. Apart from the ingredients.
      I've heard that the green (WP = pure tungsten) or the white (WZ8 = 0.70-0.90% zirconium) should be the best for aluminum.
      Have a nice week.

    2t~4t 모드가 정확히 무엇을 어떻게 다르게 해주는 옵션인가요? 듣기만 했을 때는 같은 전류일 때 출력이 다른 것 처럼 들리는데요...? 그럼 전류가 100이 100이 아니라는 말로 이해하게 되네요
