I love how the destroyer is an invincible monster that has consumed entire galaxies and civilizations...and then a big guy with fists and shotgun killed it lmao
Bricks fists alone break the Hyperion force fields on 1000 cuts, when no weapon or ability any BL2 vault hunter could. There is no match to Bricks fists.
"The Destroyer is sooo smart and strong like, mate, he can eat stars and galaxies and universes and multiv-" "Didn't he get captured like a scrub on a tiny little planet tho ?" "... w-well" "And didn't he get rekted by half a dozen dudes with guns ?" "... b-but it was but a small part of h-" "So he's a giant pushover, that's what you are trying to say" Seriously, real hard to respect the Destroyer when he gets destroyed that easily. By, again, basic ass guns.
Did anyone notice the fact the ravangers gimmick is evolving as combat ensues, meaning if left to the elements, could grow into a threat beyond what could be slain.
I think what colonel zarpedon actually saw was a vision of tyreen and Troy winning, which is why she wanted to destroy elpis. No key, no vault, no destroyer...
I think I have a different idea where, what Zarpedon saw was the result of Tyreen’s death which I theorize that when the vault hunters killed her it did kill the destroyer, but it simply would resurrect it in the world due to being released by her in the first place and as a consequence has its full power, but loses all the intelligence it had gained before because I believe that the destroyer may have the ability to resurrect and that might be another reason the eridians sought to contain it instead of killing it outright originally. (Also I do think that would be cool, but like he says in the video the stuff Jack saw happened exactly as was shown to him, so maybe it wouldn’t really work because I think it would have to be something absolutely made to happen, but horrific enough to spurn Zarpedon into such a desperate move given her personality) Still an awesome theory though :)
I think what she probably saw was Jack's future, so she tried to prevent that, no artifact, nothing to cause Jack's madness when he sees the future and is imprinted on by the artifact. I think the Guardian probably saw the war, which might be against the destroyer. If it really is still alive inside Pandora. It's been opened now. There will be problems
Atlas actually did pay Typhon to look for more Vaults on Promethia but he claimed he didn't find any. Although it's just a fan theory, I tend to think that Typhon knew about the second Vault on Promethia just like he knew about the Vault on Eden 6. He just covered up the truth because he saw how the first Vault being opened was treated.
His logs also suggest he had no actual interest in opening any more vaults until he met Lehda. He was basically letting them pay him because he was the only one who had ever found one but he really only did it for the money in the first place.
Borderlands lore: abominations are locked within vaults, in a dark distant future in which humans search them in a bid to obtain knowledge or riches. Borderlands gameplay: Hey Dude, you wanna kick ass and get cool loot!?
I dont think the destroyer is completely gone. The vault didn't open all the way so it couldn't have gotten out. Tyreen probably fused with a small chunk which is why she was so small compared to how big the destroyer likely is. Other wise lilith wouldnt have needed to sacrifice herself to stop pandora from opening since pandora kinda sucks and i dont think anyone would miss it if it was destroyed.
It's not gone after the events of bl3 its now a sealed universal monster that eats everything but apparently the one in bo1 was just a small portion of it i mean like it did retreat back into the vault
Its very clear the vault didn't open. The destroyer is at a minimum planetary in scale. Tyreen just got corrupted beyond all get out, an avatar as you will.
Lilith had to sacrifice herself so the destroyer couldn’t get out of pandora. i agree tho. pandora sucks. but at the same time the destroyer was a threat to the universe so it’s a good thing that they used a whole planet to imprison it
Of course, also the Destroyer was described to be "Invincible" so you cant probably kill him at all. I mean it would not make any sense at all. If Tyreen (full power without Destroyer) was stronger than all other Sirens and probably equal with the Protagonist, how could he defeat the Destroyer, who is around 1.000.000x stronger than Tyreen and the entire antic civilisation which had the power to nuke planets
I find it believable that it's the Destroyer's influence that makes any and all denizens born on Pandora to be batshit insane, which explains a WHOLE lot of why Pandora is so notorious.
I assumed that since the xylourgos vault monster could corrupt people, perhaps it corrupted the eridians that imprisoned it and maybe that's why it has a weird connection with their technology. Maybe that's how it got out and the connection with the technology is what kept its heart beating.
@@mrmystery9096 1. i misread it, and never bothered to fix it. And 2. if it DID corrupt the eridians, wouldn't they be LESS likely to seal the destroyer?
@@mrmystery9096 fair point, but isn't the eridian species the most advanced species? what I'm saying is that if they WERE corrupted wouldn't that be one helluva battle? and if so why haven't we heard of any eridian wars?
@@mrfrench7722 becoming a siren doesnt always have to do with genetics Whenever a siren dies their siren powers is automatically transfered to someone else and that’s how angel got it, she wasnt always a siren from birth
@@mrfrench7722 men can’t be sirens with the exception of the guy in borderlands 3 who was the first one because he was literally attached to his sister in the womb before they were born and she received her powers in the womb so technically she was born with her powers and by extension so was he
If Githian(Spelling?) was an Eridian creation, perhaps he was an early attempt to deal with the Destroyer? He could have been created to somehow sway the Destroyer before they realized how truly powerful the Destroyer was and then, having no purpose, was locked away and abandoned in an attempt to stop Githian from harming anyone. We never actually see what was in Githian's vault. Maybe it was just another cage perhaps even a prototype for Pandora.
I don't actually think that gythian was created by the eridians, more like it ,like the destroyer was just another threat to the universe so the eridians locked it up
Zarpedon has a good heart; the Sentinel and the artifact revealed the truth of Pandora and Elpis being the key. Zarpedon thought that if you destroy a key, you can never open the cell. Jack is more greedy, power-hungry, it directed him to the Warrior; the creature intended to kill those that would seek to appease the Destroyer. Jack misinterprets this as something he can use but no matter what, it would ultimately result in his death. Just my head-canon explanation of what the artifact does.
I think Jack started out with good intentions. At least partially good. Things started to go downhill for him after he locked Angel away. But by the time of the presequel he still wasn't just fuelled by greed, he seemed have genuinely good intentions, and was only fighting Zarpedon because she was fighting him. I think what drove him mad was seeing the warrior something that he at first thought was a threat and that he could help with, in the future. And what drove him over the edge was getting that imprinted in to his. The warrior itself. And the future he saw came to pass, just not how he thought it would
@@maximillian5102 I view Jack in three different stages. I: Conflicted. Jack as we meet him in TPS genuinely wants to improve the state of the galaxy and Pandora. When he says he wants to wipe out bandits, he means the actual bandits. However, he also has a darker side. Not just his imprisonment of Angel, you CAN argue the justification of that, but his USE of Angel is the glimpse into his darker persona. He wants to advance his position in Hyperion and she can be the key. Again, at this stage you can argue exactly why. II: Enraged. This is that stage after he is betrayed by Lilith and her cohorts. It's not so much the betrayal itself, but the way Lilith and Moxxi approached it: with no remorse at all. This stage has Jack view the citizens of Pandora as bandits and he wants revenge. III: Mad/Deluded. This is after Lilith attempts to murder Jack. He now wants not only revenge, but domination. Not to help, but to control, but he still tells himself he is the same man from the beginning. Jack only ever uses the artifact by stage II. is intentions are no longer pure at this stage (if you want to argue they once were) and so he is guided down a different path than Zarpedon was.
@@Burned-Legate in defense of jack his reasoning for imprisoning her is what she did to her mother. and yea theres the corperate greed but then you have what he thinks is a unprovoked attacked. constant betrayel just after being stuck fighting for maybe a day or a few hours. then someone he was close to attempted to kill him and everyone else on helios. then the whole being shown the future and scarring then created "handsome" jack. and lets be honest none of the "heroes" were good people. until roland took over then they became the good guys
I think the reason for the Elpis vault was to warn people who might try to open Pandora, knowing that if they had the means to move Elpis they most likely would have conquered its vault. Also the secondary effect of creating more loyalists like the lost legion to protect it, which explains why Zarp wanted to destroy Elpis because she knew it was the key.
"What will happen, I wonder, when all the Vaults are empty, and all the terrors dead? Will the Guardians still stand their vigil? Will they find a greater purpose? And what is stopping them from finding it now?" “Do you wish to know what our creators told us before they passed? “Beware the Vault Hunters, they will take your place”. Now you are chained, and I am free. Until next time... Guardian.”
Funny how important lore regarding the last active forces of the Eridians (whom arent actual Eridians) and their relation to the Vault Hunters is kinda hidden in the 3rd game. Whats more, it is clear Eridians KNEW these events were to occur. I wonder, which side will the Eridian Guardians take when the War takes place? While they know the Hunters are their successors (and inheritors) it is not a given that they side with us given their purpose, which we now have taken from them for better or worse.
@@thomasallen9974 at this point im 100% convinced they used halo's story, cause its legit the same with the names changed, in order to stop the flood(vault monsters) the forerunners(eridians) built the halos(vaults) to destroy(imprison) so it cant devastate the galaxy(universe) plus just like the flood the destroyer gets smarter the more it consumes
My theory is that vaults monsters are either powerful creatures that the Eridians sealed for their protection or Genetically created creatures that have gotten too strong or just a prison. For instances, the Empyrean Sentinel and Traveler are most likely ancient fighters or knowledge holders that the Eridians use to use in battles and creatures like the Rampager, Warrior and the Graveward are genetically augmented weapons that have been deemed too dangerous to live but too costly to destroy
I can see a good reason as to why some prisons are there and why keys were made, if they expected someone to be able to kill the prisoners, that'd be something to want. question is which vaults did the eridians want opened FIRST, then what order after?
After hearing you're theory at the end, I almost feel bad for the vault monsters in 3. Imprisoned by beings far behind what they could understand only to transform and morph into horrifying beats that want death and destruction, their minds gone and left with nothing but their primal instincts. Once we get borderlands 4 I'm curious what kind of vault monsters we'll see there, maybe that supposed Timekeeper we've heard about. I definitely feel like we need some more info on the vault monsters and why they were imprisoned in the first place
There may be 1 more boss(es). The vault where Troy is killed at is named "The Vault of the Architects". Not sure if that references the Eridians themselves, but Tyreen and Troy did loot that vault previously, so they may have killed them
I think an interesting way to look at the destroyer is to not look at as evil but as nature and taking him out of the universe had led to civilizations such as humanity spreading across the universe wagging war on conquered planets. Probably not what the games are actually saying but it’s neat to think about.
That’s how crazy strong the destroyer was, and by the events of bl3, he ain’t dead, Lilith had to sacrifice herself and her power to seal the planet to keep the destroyer from coming out, and no the destroyer is not dead, he just lent a small piece of himself to tryreen (to consume and escape) unfortunately she was a weak siren and died.
I want to guess that it wasn’t exactly Dahl who killed the beast, but the Eridians. What if Githian was their first attempt at fighting fire with fire, putting one giant beast up against an equally large giant beast, but from experiments after experiments, Githian’s body eventually gave out, leaving him in a state of endless comatose.
The Timekeeper may be referencing the artifact on Pandora's moon, especially given how accurately it "predicts" the future... almost as if it has experienced it and keeps that knowledge within.
Perhaps the graveward was meant to literally protect a grave. Maybe Eden 6 was a resting grounds for the eridians, and the Graveward was always at the ready to defend it,hence why it isn’t inside a vault. This is also probably the explanation for the Warrior which we never see leave a vault but rather come from the cliff below. Perhaps the vault is more than a cage but a vessel for the power of something else. They key unlocks not just the vault but the power of the being inside. That’s why the monsters can’t break free, and perhaps why they are so easily killed by hunters, because they only just woke up and haven’t regained all their power yet. Maybe that’s also why we see the rampager and other monsters evolve or become more powerful with new abilities throughout its fight, as it might more quickly regain its power after awakening. This theory of awakening also works because it’s implied that the monsters are in a sort of hibernation through the Nyriad log mentioning the feeding process.
I like to think that the battle in borderlands 2 against the twins and the cov is not the war The watcher was talking about but instead after Pandora was open and then stopped it created a standby protocol all the vault in the Galaxy are now open with or without a key they're just waiting for someone to come across and then open it it's awesome means a surviving race of eridians are coming to claim what is theirs and they will kill anyone who gets in their way.
@@seltrixbl2623 I want to see a borderlands game where we get to play as Marcus dr. zed Patricia tennis and sir Hammerlock and maybe DLC characters like tiny Tina or Mr torque so kind of like a borderlands tps 2
Prometheus gave the "fire of the gods" to man, and was cast out and chained to rocks as punishment. The first vault was discovered on Promethea. I love that the names of the planets aren't just random greek words.
I know I'm late but I can completely believe that Dahl is just so massive and disorganized that they had encountered and killed gythian while at the same time assembly a team to find gythian
Gythian has got to be my favorite Vault Monster thematically. Lovecraftian horror Vault Monster? Absolutely awesome. And I also agree that having the Destroyer just die with Tyreen would be very underwhelming after all of this build up. I like to think that that Tyreen couldn't leech it all to completion, since if she could, why didn't the Eridians make The Original Leech Siren do it? Besides, if Tyreen DID leech it all, shouldn't she be a little bit bigger? Like she is very big after, don't get me wrong but wouldn't she be at least somewhat planet sized?
Not really relevant to any lore, but watching this really made me realize how much I miss the simple naming theme they had for the monsters: the Destroyer, Warrior, Traveler, Rampager (which, idk about anyone else, but that kind of feels like a mouthful. The Berserker feels more like a name that flows off the tongue better). Wish they kept that up.
What if grave and wards job was to...take some kind of power from people? I mean think about it, the vault draws in people and it's one of the few vaults that seems like it's meant to be found. So what if the eridians were drawing in normal people, killing them with the initial protectors grave and ward and then gathering some kind of power from them or, more specifically, their souls? In a sense that would make the name fitting. It's protecting the dead, or more specifically the graves of the dead. And then from that you can get 2 explanations why, either the ancient eridians used this as some kind of test, like if you could defeat the strength of those who came before you, you get some reward like the artifact relic actually in the vault, or maybe this was specifically just the eridian form of a generator, used to lure in unsuspecting travelers and kill them for power...?
id love to see a more in depth video about the vault keys. rlly good and detailed video! i love the borderlands lore. I actually thought the borderlands 3 story did so much things wrong but ur videos show me the opposite. like i love the connection between bl3 and the pre sequel. they actually gave a good reason for zarpadon to destroy the moon and all. i also love how nyriad mentioned the warrior and traveller etc. nyriad is so interesting and gives us rlly important answers. i just hope they didnt forget about the watcher...
I recently got back into borderlands again and discovered your channel and i have to say youre doing a fantastic job and all your borderlands videos keep me entertained and engaged keep doing what your doing man
Theory of the serpent and some other vault creatures. Seiren power manifested in the odd dimension into these creatures. Traveler=phase walk Serpent=phaseleach Sentinal=phase shift (cos of how its surrounded by tech)
This is still arguably your best video... your knowledge of The Borderlands lore truely shines in what we know and what could or can be for the future. When you explain the History and background of The Destroyer... the dreadful music behind it backs up just how much of a threat that The Destroyer is
I like to think that The traveler's vault isn't really a prison but more so a moving home for it, since it can leave the vault if it wants it and it has guardians in it I think the Eridians and Traveler were chill with each other
I've have a hypotheses about Gythian. What if its title of eater of heart has a double meaning. On one hand, its shown to having the ability to influencing people by either making them bonded ( Cultist having a special connection to the heart that grants them some power) or curses them (people that aren't apart of the cult and negatively affect their lives .) And on the other hand, its about the size of half of a planet and from where the vault hunters fought Gythans heart, it looked like it was/had burrowed into the planet itself (outside of just going limp as it "died"). And if it was made by Erdians, then what if it was meant to intentionally wipe would other civilization's? As far as we know currently, the erdians only took notice of other civilizations only because of being potential food sources for the destroyer. So what if gythian was made and deployed as a giant leech to inhabitable plants to starve the destroyer, making the inhabitants fight against each other so that its left alone to go after the heart of the planet itself the core, where you know, the plant would ceased to be alive, therefore leaving nothing for the destroyer to consume. And I'm guessing that it was locked away due to it requiring too much time and Resorces to create multipliable gythans in the limited timespan they had, as well as just being dangerous to have around. That would explain on despite its size, gythian was able to be killed by a bunch of dhal soldiers as it looks relatively easy to infiltrate gythan and just cause a bunch of damage to its insides, an defense mechanism to prevent that from happening.
I am pretty sure Graveward, Rampager, and Serpent were monsters locked away by the Eridians. Vaults on Promethea, Eden-6, and Necrotafeyo are conduits that activate the Pyre. They were probably made to protect the major conduits from being tinkered with, just like the Warrior and the Sentinel.
16:15 I think the fact that Grave, and Ward doesn't have a red or yellow bar indicating healt and amored respectively, and only a blue shield bar furthers that those blue wisp things were, or something akin to a soul. And maybe those two forms were something like dolls or puppets, only held together and functioning cause of the souls that inhabit them
An interesting thing the destroyer probably thinks that its just eating to survive while everone else calls it evil for nourishing itself everything eats afterall
The destroyer absorbs knowledge. Kinda like tyreen. The traveller teleports, kind like Lilith and the love craftian one controls the hearts of men, like Maya's mind control. Maybe they're parts of the true destroyer. Cut up seperate and hidden in vaults so they can't be combined. Obvs the sirens and eridium is involved somehow
i have a feeling gearbox threw the name "timekeeper" in there so they have the possibility of retconning the story and "turning back time" if they needed to. otherwise it'd be an interesting thing if they ended up using this concept to bring back dead characters both good and bad. turn back the clock to bring back maya? you bring back troy and tyreen too. try to bring back roland? you get handsome jack back as well. i hope they wouldn't plan on completely reversing almost 10 years worth of borderlands games just for that, though.
I know I’m 2 years late to this, and I apologize for that, but I wanted to say how much I really hope for this! I think it’s pretty well known how much people don’t like Ava, at the very least how she’s used to replace Maya, so if they wanted to use the Timekeeper to to retcon that, reverse time, save Maya, but then have to deal with Tyreen and Troy again? They’d be able to handle the writing with them so much better. When I played through BL3, I was really hoping the direction the ending was going to go was Troy being the final boss instead of Tyreen. iirc, Troy was getting agitated towards the end of the game to the point of being aggressive towards Tyreen. I was really hoping that Troy would’ve snapped and killed Tyreen last second (instead of us killing him then her), then as a parasite, he would’ve usurped her power and have been the actual final boss of the game. Not that I think Gearbox would actually see or use the Timekeeper to retcon the not-so-great writing or decisions they made with BL3, but I could hope
The whole narrative is building up that Troy was supposed to betray Tyrene tyreen kept using his social ability to get the children of the vaults to follow along with them he's responsible basically for their army existing in the first place. And then throughout the many efforts that they go through in the game such as dealing with katagawa JR siblings where tyreen points out that family can be one of the most powerful things if you know how to use it Aurelia hammerlock in Troy having that fling leading to Troy pondering about what his sister really brings to the operation, the fact that Tyrene was more power-hungry in responsible for the early acts of wickedness like killing their mom , Troy was gonna paristicaly leech tyreen to death. probably turn into a villain himself and then either die a villain or possibly a Redemption involving Typhon DeLeon and ava in relation to maya.
I just had a thought. Big tree guy is called Graveward. And based on the name, this would imply that he is protecting something. Now, the question is, what was he protecting? Could be that his purpose was to prevent the actual vault monster from escaping or prevent outsiders from getting inside. That would also add several follow up questions. What is Gravey really? What thing was important/dangerous enough to need a cell warden to protect the vault, which normally isnt really the case? Who put Gravey there to begin with?
Dunno if anyone has mentioned it, but it's a pretty accepted theory that what Tyreen fused with is all she could leech before her being was overwhelmed by The Destroyer, and the beast still lurks in it's prison, missing one eye and less than 1% of it's being. If it were that easy, then surely Nyriad would have leeched The Destoyer rather than the entire planet of life.
I think the Destroyer is still alive I think that Tyreen just absorb a small piece of it after Tyreen overestimate her siren power leach a perfect example is like asking someone a bet or challenge to eat an all you can eat buffet in a time limit but there’s a limit which the human body could take till they break
Your explanation of the history really makes sense and hopefully you keep on explaining the history versus where the game is heading towards. Another chapter/release will be awesome 👌
theory: what if Zarpedon and the Lost Legion saw the events of borderlands 3 (Tyreen opening the great vault) in that "glimpse". so they decide they need to destroy Elpis to "save countless lives" (as Zarpedon says). Obviously, they fail to do so (The Watcher was also trying to change fate) so it played out as it did. But, Lilith changed fate herself by flying into the moon and stopping it (as said by The Seer). Might be a few plot holes but it really ties the series together if true
Can the destroyer regenerate eyes? and if handsome jack new of this Borderlands 1 vault could he take more from it? Pre-Sequel Claptastic Voyage is pretty vague on how he reopened the vault to retrieve the eye. Also within presequel they could have still used the mini destroyer for the future, but for reasons, decided to just kill the clone. Why: reasons.
16:30 - i would like to think with GraveWardens death the the heavy gravity that was pulling ships onto Eden-6 has disappeared. now Jakobs can now use the old destroyed ships and build a space fleet of there own.
Next series: In honor of the second season of Pacific Rim: The Black on Netflix... why not the history of the war between Humanity and The Kaiju? Great vid. Sad how a VAULT went from an epic whole game bit to "The Rampager" who is just a boss.
@@seltrixbl2623 Probably with the other protagonist as well since we know nothing about what happened to her, and it seemed she took the key loot while the guy took some valuables to sell as start up funds for Atlas.
The Warrior is really a special case in my opinion, and the connection to the Artifact is pretty interesting as well. If Jack won in Borderlands 2, which was essentially to rid Pandora of the bandits, the storyline would have gone kaput since Tyreen and Troy would have nothing to come to and thus never started a cult to harness the Destroyer. Of course, whether this was Jack's true intent is up for debate, and it's only made more confusing with the introduction of the Artifact on Elpis. You could argue that Jack saw far enough into the future with it that he saw Tyreen and Troy interacting with the Destroyer, and since he also learned about the Warrior he put 2 and 2 together and wanted to use it to rid the world of gullible bandits who'd gladly hand Tyreen the power to awaken the Destroyer, or you could say that Lilith managed to destroy the Artifact before Jack got that far with it, and he only wanted to use the Warrior for his own business endeavors. Like basically the Warrior could have just ended the entire Borderlands Storyline if Jack won in the end of 2, which I find interesting and potentially adds more story to the influence the Artifact could have add in the story. (Yes I know none of this was shown in Jacks scene with the Artifact. Yes I know Jack wasn't a "good" person by any means and the possibility of him willingly saving the planet is pretty farfetched considering the state Hyperion was as a corporation at the time could imply it would be easy for him to just set up shop somewhere else, for example, Promethia, considering which at the time might not have even had the rebuilt Atlas Corp [Unless I'm missing something in the timeline but they couldn't have been that powerful at that point in time I assume if they did exist]. Also, the extent of Jacks knowledge on the Destroyer might warp this theory too. Jack, being evil, and wanting to control everything, might also have considered controlling the Destroyer as well IF he saw that far into the glimpse the Artifact gave him. As far as we know, Jack may have believed that the Destroyer died during the events of Borderlands 1 and that the only recoverable part of it was the Eye. Assuming Jack could have or did see that far into the Future, all of this could have been a possibility.) Load of fan theory but the Warrior is personally one of my favorite vault monsters and I only just realized this when thinking about the Warriors real purpose. I don't want to believe the Warrior is inherently evil, and that it only let Jack possibly control it was to eliminate the Bandits which it may have known could have led to the Destroyer being freed in any capacity, or it may have not and it just really was just a brainless creature made to obey the Eridians. Take this however you want, I could just be stupid and just overthinking it.
I think Elpis was the main Erydian base and colony back in the day, rather than Pandora. Think about it. When they turned the planet itself into a prison, it's moon would naturarily be the place where they would stage off their operations off while the planet was mined out and shifted around. Heck, Handsome Jack done the same with Helios station when he was doing his own mining effords rather than moving his command to Pandora first [building Opportunity]. Positioning Helios Station next to Elpis might even imply it's the perfect place from which to airstike things onto the landmasses of Pandora. With this in mind it would make sence the moon had more infrastructure left scince no athmosphere meant less people going to excavate it, you could hide it deeper underground [no destroyer-sized cage inside here] and no wind erosion (and psyco colonists) means more things are left intact on the surface. It doesn't matter whether the Traveler was technology or a form of life. I think that rather than beeing a prisoner, it was allied or subserviant to the Erydians who used it's ability to teleport as a moving base by rigging a small vault onto it. The Traveler could teleport to Erydians around the galaxy needing help, bring his vault that could house arms or warriors and use the vault space to evacuate Erydians if day was lost. Also size of the Traveler implies it would be very helpful in capturing vault monsters and maybe even contribute menial labour to construct some of the Vaults. Of course it is a theory and the Traveler could've just hacked it's Vault after the Erydians perished and became an intergalactic tourist (or felt that something was hunting it down).
The newest one to join the Borderlands series is the Devourer from New Tales from the Borderlands who was done dirty but There have been others mentioned, some even by name. • The Timekeeper, who he mentioned, was an ancient Vault Monster slayed by Nyriad, it has the ability to manipulate time. Nothing else is known about it. • Unidentified Vault Monster mentioned in BL2 Badassitude DLC. Apparently it was discovered and slayed by the Torgue Corporation, and after that they removed the beast and stashed stock and trophies in the vault. Unidentified Vault Monster mentioned in BL2. Nothing is known about it except that it is located on the Planet Epitah.
I don't remember the campaign of carnage DLC ever talking about that Vault having a vault monster it was just "the vault that can only be opened when the champion of Pandora feeds it the blood of the ultimate coward" and we get this information from Tannis who outside of giving this information at the beginning of the DLC never shows up again in story to ask about the vault. Unless they're saying that Pistons truckasaurus was the Vault monster? I'm liable to believe that it was just a weapons cache since it's really weird that it's just a random Vault on Pandora with literally nothing to do with the Destroyer or any lore whatsoever
I always assumed the Leviathan was a vault monster because of the Eridian architecture in the treasure room it was guarding. When I used to play a lot of Bl2 I always thought of it like how when Jack opened the second vault the warrior became allied with him. The same thing could have happened with captain blade and the leviathan
there were a lot of questions left in borderlands 3 so i feel like that underwhelming defeat of the tyreen destroyer fusion was a red hering. she only thinks she absorbed him completely because thats just how strong he is, but most likely it was only a piece. after-all it isn't just a dumb beast, it's intelligent. i would not be surprised if its revealed the destroyer is still alive and managed to escape a new way because of her, because she had firehawks power, because she was a siren. tthe destroyer can very well be free right now and borderlands 4 is about that, and the necessity to find the 7th siren as-well as a replacement for Lilith
A thought that occurs: do the Phase-abilities connect to the Vaults themselves? Vaults seem to occupy extra-dimensional space, after all. Maybe all of a Siren's powers are targeted to that end.
had no knowledge of borderlands till this video, haven't played the games, or watched any playthroughs even though i got spoiled, the idea of a vault that harbingers dangerous galactic entities sounds cool af
*Spoilers* in borderlands 3 they explain that the vault monsters are the powersource for the minor vaults which are powering the machine of the great vault holding the destroyer captive, to activate the machine the first siren had to kill the eredians, i think that action condensed the energy of their races lifeforce and created the vault monsters
10:00 it is not accuracy, it is a path shown, one of many. Because if zarperdon didn't tell Jack there was a vault on the moon and didn't try to destroy it with hyperios station jack would never learn that it was open. Likewise if moxie and Lilith didn't betray and try to kill Jack he would not have stepped on the path of vengeance or become _slightly_ insane
Its a bit unsettling that every fight with the destroyer is basically a small piece of it, it couldn't fit through the vault door and tyreen only leeched enough to give it a headache. We haven't seen the last of it.
My theory with Gythian is that it, much like the Destroyer, had a false Vault meant to be used for feeding. A large portion of it managed to escape from this feeding door before being killed by some previous Vault Hunters but the fact that part of the monster still remained in the Vault kept it alive in a dead body. I also fully believe that Vincent and Elenore were being manipulated by Gythian and that ritual was what was needed to open the true Xylourgos Vault and revive Gythian.
What if all the vault monsters are eridians (sorry if I misspelled that) that were deemed to dangerous to be free since they had catastrophic abilities except the destroyer which was an actual monster bent on consuming life
Could *The Destroyer* have been the "mastermind" behind Tyreen's shift in goal in/before BL3?... We know it gets smarter as it eats, and the last KNOWN meal it had that gave it more intelligence, was the Eridians. So what if *The Destroyer* sent a message or something to Tyreen & her mind? Which was why she wanted to originally find the Great Vault. Then when she decided to unleash *The Destroyer* it seems almost out of the blue... (Granted that was around the time Troy was killed, so ?...)
probly the alien siren did this after looking in the featuer bc she saw how weakend the destroyer was after fusing with tyrin. so i asume she did all this that the Vault hunter got the weakend destroyer to kill or somthing
while this is a old video the sentinel reminds me of jack in a way he is simple but dangerous and well he looks like a king something jack wanted i guess the sentinel was a foreshadowing of what jack would become well i mean minus vomiting acid or being the size of a giant but you get the idea
I like the theory that gythian is a pseudo relative of the destroyer, a more fledgling existence in the cosmic scale that the eridians caught while it was young, and most of the body died after escaping a lesser vault than the likes of pandora's, the design is similar enough for me to believe it. It could be a part of a pantheon of borderlands old gods that died/was killed in its infancy
If Captain Blades treasure is not a vault, and the Leviathan only guards the treasure, it makes sense. But the inside does look like it was built by Eredians.
@@schiopuandrei5015 the treasure room is definitely a vault. There are statues of guardians and eridium-like stuff insiede. I've always thought that the leviathan was the vault monster protecting it. Maybe captain blade opened the vault and somehow managed to control the leviathan. Then he hide it's treasure there.
@@sarezlt1207 I'd say it was a ruin with the statues, blade turnt it Into a vault for his treasure, the Leviathan is now a "vault" monster but not a vault monster
Its size is certainly comparable yet the narrative would imply that Captain blade was responsible for it not it literally existing but for it being where it is guarding his treasure also judging by the crab snake I am assuming that the creature may also be the progenitor of all the snakes littering the ground of the Desert Oasis
I love how the destroyer is an invincible monster that has consumed entire galaxies and civilizations...and then a big guy with fists and shotgun killed it lmao

i thought the fight was so cool the first time i did it, coupled with the idea that more vaults were in store
The warrior does too. It grows wings in its fight. I theorize that the warrior, had the vault hunter not killed it, would've become immortal
(Also I do think that would be cool, but like he says in the video the stuff Jack saw happened exactly as was shown to him, so maybe it wouldn’t really work because I think it would have to be something absolutely made to happen, but horrific enough to spurn Zarpedon into such a desperate move given her personality)
Still an awesome theory though :)

He just covered up the truth because he saw how the first Vault being opened was treated.
echo logs allude to it
His logs also suggest he had no actual interest in opening any more vaults until he met Lehda. He was basically letting them pay him because he was the only one who had ever found one but he really only did it for the money in the first place.

Personally, I think she just fused with the equivalent of a skin mite.
A real shadow over insmuth vibe, yeah
It also would explain the fauna of Pandora and Elpis and why just ewrithing wants to kill you, all influenced by the Destroyer.
Ohhh I like that idea
I assumed that since the xylourgos vault monster could corrupt people, perhaps it corrupted the eridians that imprisoned it and maybe that's why it has a weird connection with their technology. Maybe that's how it got out and the connection with the technology is what kept its heart beating.

Thats brilliant!
And the future he saw came to pass, just not how he thought it would
Lilith is responsible for handsome jack becoming a villain, Lilith is responsible for more death and chaos than any other villain of the borderlands
@@Burned-Legate in defense of jack his reasoning for imprisoning her is what she did to her mother. and yea theres the corperate greed

and lets be honest none of the "heroes" were good people. until roland took over then they became the good guys

I can see a good reason as to why some prisons are there and why keys were made, if they expected someone to be able to kill the prisoners, that'd be something to want. question is which vaults did the eridians want opened FIRST, then what order after?
nothing excites me more than more borderlands lore explanations from you!
Ye hath predicted the future!
There may be 1 more boss(es). The vault where Troy is killed at is named "The Vault of the Architects". Not sure if that references the Eridians themselves, but Tyreen and Troy did loot that vault previously, so they may have killed them
I feel like Borderlands share Destiny's problem of how the "Galaxy destroying" lore DOES NOT match up with the gameplay at all

I think an interesting way to look at the destroyer is to not look at as evil but as nature and taking him out of the universe had led to civilizations such as humanity spreading across the universe wagging war on conquered planets. Probably not what the games are actually saying but it’s neat to think about.
thanks kronk
"Eating it's own name." has got to me in the top ten hardest lines in video games, dayum
The Timekeeper may be referencing the artifact on Pandora's moon, especially given how accurately it "predicts" the future... almost as if it has experienced it and keeps that knowledge within.
you dont understand how much i love and appreciate your videos, and how you are so detailed with the lore which is exactly what i love the most
Perhaps the graveward was meant to literally protect a grave.
Using the bloodborne music during the serpent segment was such a nice touch given the theory

Am I the only one who feels somewhat nostolgic hearing EruptionFang's voice with his old RWBY content coming to mind or is that just me?
In regards to Gythian(spelling?), I remember reading something somewhere that sums it up perfectly. "Even Dead Gods can Dream"
He's very obviously Inspired by Cthulhu from H.P Lovecrafts Call of Cthulhu “In his house at R’lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.”
And then from that you can get 2 explanations why, either the ancient eridians used this as some kind of test, like if you could defeat the strength of those who came before you, you get some reward like the artifact relic actually in the vault, or maybe this was specifically just the eridian form of a generator, used to lure in unsuspecting travelers and kill them for power...?
ahh i love when in storytelling the greatest power in the universe is indomitable human spirit and a gun

Eruption Fang you are the greatest borderlands story teller of all. Thank you
I've have a hypotheses about Gythian.
I am very sure they are heading towards
"Vault hunters are the bad guys THIS WHOLE TIME " so this tracks very well
16:15 I think the fact that Grave, and Ward doesn't have a red or yellow bar indicating healt and amored respectively, and only a blue shield bar furthers that those blue wisp things were, or something akin to a soul.
And maybe those two forms were something like dolls or puppets, only held together and functioning cause of the souls that inhabit them
An interesting thing the destroyer probably thinks that its just eating to survive while everone else calls it evil for nourishing itself everything eats afterall
1:46
damn, i really like that it has a generic name because it never had a chance to be named
So you're saying The Destroyer is the embodiment of all sirens combined?
i have a feeling gearbox threw the name "timekeeper" in there so they have the possibility of retconning the story and "turning back time" if they needed to.
otherwise it'd be an interesting thing if they ended up using this concept to bring back dead characters both good and bad. turn back the clock to bring back maya? you bring back troy and tyreen too. try to bring back roland? you get handsome jack back as well.
i hope they wouldn't plan on completely reversing almost 10 years worth of borderlands games just for that, though.
24:21 "no real reason they should share a technical connection"
I would respond by saying that perhaps the eridians based technology off gythian
Love the video.
The shots of the maps and landscapes was brilliant 👍
thank you. you just collect all that info and so impressive video about those vaults and their keepers monters. impressive!
I know if I found a vault I would say to the original Vault Hunter "Can you take this secret to your own grave even if i die before you?"
I think the Destroyer is still alive I think that Tyreen just absorb a small piece of it after Tyreen overestimate her siren power leach a perfect example is like asking someone a bet or challenge to eat an all you can eat buffet in a time limit but there’s a limit which the human body could take till they break
I'M NOT ALONE
Also if leeching the whole thing is possible nyriad would've done it first considering she ate an entire race
Your explanation of the history really makes sense and hopefully you keep on explaining the history versus where the game is heading towards. Another chapter/release will be awesome 👌

Theory as the destroyer is immortal, and was absorbed by the leach siren, it might "reincarnate" into the next leach siren
My headcanon for the great vault - it gradually weakened the Destroyer, slowly starving it. At a rate slow enough that it didn’t realize
the sacrifice every 200 years is just to keep it placated within its jail so possibly
I didn't really think about it until now but Grveward might literally just be Mecha but made out wood and rockets.
I wished Loader Bot was in BL3
Maybe he was living with Gortys
he probably still is. hope the return someday
@@seltrixbl2623 Probably with the other protagonist as well since we know nothing about what happened to her, and it seemed she took the key loot while the guy took some valuables to sell as start up funds for Atlas.
The bloodborne music in the outro segment was a nice, fitting touch
Assuming Jack could have or did see that far into the Future, all of this could have been a possibility.)
Load of fan theory but the Warrior is personally one of my favorite vault monsters and I only just realized this when thinking about the Warriors real purpose.
The eridians made the planet, they didn’t make a prison and put on to a planet. They literally made a planet and a moon which was designed as a key.
We didnt saw the vault monster architect in BL3 when we went in vault after killing troy
@@alienonlsd3209 It was either mentioned by an NPC or mentioned on the Borderlands wiki.
Maybe all of a Siren's powers are targeted to that end.
had no knowledge of borderlands till this video, haven't played the games, or watched any playthroughs
even though i got spoiled, the idea of a vault that harbingers dangerous galactic entities sounds cool af
Nah real question is how the FUCK they stuffed Gythian in a vault
*Spoilers*
in borderlands 3 they explain that the vault monsters are the powersource for the minor vaults which are powering the machine of the great vault holding the destroyer captive, to activate the machine the first siren had to kill the eredians, i think that action condensed the energy of their races lifeforce and created the vault monsters
Shoutout to the Bloodborne music in the Serpent bit, gosh that took me back
Its a bit unsettling that every fight with the destroyer is basically a small piece of it, it couldn't fit through the vault door and tyreen only leeched enough to give it a headache.
18:30 X'D if only he had the eridian relic to see the future. he never would have even hoped that tales 2 would be released.
(Granted that was around the time Troy was killed, so ?...)
probly the alien siren did this after looking in the featuer bc she saw how weakend the destroyer was after fusing with tyrin. so i asume she did all this that the Vault hunter got the weakend destroyer to kill or somthing
same as bl1 then, the atlas siren tricked by the destroyer
Anyone knows the name of the song from 20:13 when he explains gythian?
while this is a old video the sentinel reminds me of jack in a way he is simple but dangerous and well he looks like a king something jack wanted
i guess the sentinel was a foreshadowing of what jack would become well i mean minus vomiting acid or being the size of a giant but you get the idea
I could binge these all day
Awesome video. This reminds me why I can't really get into Tiny Tina's wonderlands (though the gameplay is Hella rad). I just need the lore.
IMO Eridians are like the Prometheans from Halo and The Destroyer is like the flood
19:07 The Traveler is probably on Pandora to observe the feeding of The Destroyer.
Perhaps gythian was made to eat the hearts of the vault monsters, but something went wrong
Wasnt the Leviathan from Bl2 Captain Scarlet DLC a vault monster?
I don’t think it really was?
@@MrBounceoutboi maybe just a ruin like the one you find in borderlands 1 in dahl headlands
damn i played the borderlands 3 campaign multiple times and i never noticed the serpent
Honestly I think that the leviathan from the oasis dlc is a vault monster
Its size is certainly comparable yet the narrative would imply that Captain blade was responsible for it not it literally existing but for it being where it is guarding his treasure also judging by the crab snake I am assuming that the creature may also be the progenitor of all the snakes littering the ground of the Desert Oasis
26:02. i caught the use of Bloodborne music ;)
I actually wanted a video on this thank you
