  • Step by step guide to replacement of the timing (cam) chain and tensioner. Also we will check the oil pump screen for debris. Fairly easy repair and highly recommended!
This procedure will be similar for most Japanese 4 stroke MX race bikes. Specs will differ, always consult your service manual.

If more videos were like yours it would ten years to fix something small. You probably just put me back on the trails for another month before sleding season. Thanks

I'll say it again, these videos deserve more attention. Maybe you need to start adding some tags to the description. You do a great job and I enjoy watching.

While all timing chains essentially do the same thing, timing and alignment marks can differ dramatically, even between the same model. I would strongly suggest a workshop manual.

Counting 29 pins from exhaust mark to intake mark, is that the same for a 2017 kx250f? Or it’s only for the 450?

Unfortunately I do not have a service manual for that year. 2012 250F is 28 pins from dot to dot and 21-22 is 30 pins. Make sure you are on top dead center, align the exhaust camshaft dot with the head and no slack in the front of the chain. Install the intake camshaft with the dot lined up with the head in the back. As long as your chain is not absolute trash, the dots should be very close to the plane of the head.
