“It was hell”: Greece wildfire drone video shows devastation through Athens suburbs

- A charred landscape and burnt properties was what many Greek residents of Rapentosa, Varnavas and Vrilissia returned to on Tuesday. Flames had reached the northern suburbs of Athens on Monday afternoon, prompting Greek authorities to issue a chain of evacuation orders in the country’s worst wildfire of the year.
“It was hell. The fire started from very high up and it came all the way down to the village. It was running at great speed, it was very windy, there was panic, there were sirens, a lot of people, Police, people crying, screaming, shouting. And it reached and burned all the way down to Athens,” Varnavas resident Mina Katsiki recounted.
For sculptor Vangelis Ilias in Vrilissia, who was returning from holiday when he learned that a wildfire was suddenly approaching his workshop, he was shocked as he never thought wildfires would reach so close. "Life has shown me many times that this is the way to go: I fall and then I rise again," he said.
Greece's worst wildfire of the year eased on Tuesday, after it burned for three days, thanks to weaker winds, pausing progress of a destructive blaze that killed one person and torched cars, buildings, fields and forests.

Don't know who translated this, but the last guy is saying something totally different. He's saying: "They called me and they told me that the workshop is burning. Basically they told me there was a (fire?) and soon after they they told me the workshop is burning."

Let's pretend we didn't see that. "Nowdays" started in Paradise, California six years ago. We introduced to terms like "wildfire", "mega fire" and "climate change"... Melted cars next to unharmed trees. 😉🤫
I live in the foothills of Santa Barbara and years ago the county and local architects presented their awards for recent homes that were built with fire resistant architecture and landscaping. The following year a metal blade weedeater started a small fire in the foothills and then the wind began to howl at 70 mph with humidity as low as 5% and temperatures over 100°. My house, along with all of the award-winning fire resistant homes we're all gone in a matter of hours! The entire area looks like the moon.

So China is accelerating the use of coal despite it having signed the Paris agreement.
And we pay a carbon tax. Approximately 40 million people in the second largest country land wise. We absorb way more than we emit!

when are we going to accept how we have created global warming. I live on Vancouver island in Canada and we are like a powder keg here. no rain and crazy sudden winds. wouldn't take much for what happened in Greece to happen here

Why after two to three forest fires per year the Greek government never upgraded fire equipment like installation of fire hydrants near not not having the people using garden water hoses to safe their homes as we see in 💯s of UA-cam videos and NO fire trucks 🚒 and after 4-5 days where’s the prime minister Mitsotakis or the security minister 🇬🇷🖤❤️🩹🇬🇷
