I think I really have it covered; onedrive, iCloud and an external drive. Almost overkill!!!

Nice quick overview but you didn’t mention one of the biggest pros of a NAS - enhanced data integrity. Most NAS operating systems allow you to use BTRFS or ZFS as a filesystem. Both of these allow you to do data integrity checks on your data to avoid the dreaded bit-rot. That, for me, was the #1 selling point for getting my NAS for photo and video storage. Love your work!! Please keep it up!!

I use two older Synology NASes, the newest is an Ebay deal, the oldest one just for extra backup. With such a NAS, you get a lot of extras, unrelated to photos: Music library and backup, for instance.

Thanks so much for this! Getting a NAS is how I started on the path to getting my photos organized (and out of Apple Photos). Do you have any thoughts on using a NAS photo app? I'd love to see your take on the pros/cons of using Synology Photos.

a NAS can be useful yes but you need actual knowledge for it since the hard drives can fail overtime if you can build your own NAS and use redundant hard drives meaning its safer during failure plus be sure to secure it properly since it can always be cracked
