How To Make a GIANT Deck Chair/Beach Chair | Woodworking Projects | Old Town Fabrication & Design

- In this video I'll be making a giant deck chair/beach chair.
I started by cutting all my pieces of timber to length. For this build I'm using 2x4 CLS. Make sure to pick out the straightest and cleanest ones you can when you buy them. After cutting to length I added a heavy round-over to all the edges, and then created a jig to cut the mortises for the horizontal pieces using a pattern bit in a trim router.
I want to be able to disassemble the chair in the future for transportation, so I decided to hold it together using screws and no glue, so I pre drilled the mortices and then started marking out the hole positions for the pivot points. I drilled these using a drill guide to keep the holes as straight as possible. I could have used my drill press, but some of the lengths of wood are 2.4m long and getting them balanced would have been difficult.
Then it was onto sewing the sling. I bought the following 23oz/650gsm fabric from Amazon amzn.to/2WLM2oT as it seemed to be the thickest and strongest I could find. I'm a complete novice with a sewing machine, so please don't take anything I've done as the correct way to do it. After cutting the fabric to size I folded all the edges over twice and ran a stitch along them to create a double fold hem and tidy up the edges. I then measured out how big the loop at each end needed to be, pinned that in place and sewed that up. I ran 3 separate lines of stitches along these to make them as strong as possible.
The assembly was quite straight forward. I first constructed one of the sides using m10 bolts, nyloc cap nuts, and washers. Then I attached all the horizontal pieces using some 100mm screws, and then slid on the fabric sling. I then lined up the other side and screwed this into place with more 100mm screws.

hi...I made a Deck chair watching your video. Thank you for being an inspiration to me.
Awesome!
Thanks!
Do you have plans for this?
I'd love to make a couple of them and it would be helpful to know the lengths of all the pieces
Awesome! Would love to see plans! Do you have them available?
I'm just about to build four of these. Did you ever make plans? 🙏
I loved this build.❤️
Thanks Chrystal. I had a lot of fun making this one!
Plans/ dimensions would be amazing? Hoping to make one for a charity event
👍👍👍Thanks for a nice and interesting video.
Thanks!

You're welcome. Take care.
Thank you for this video - could you list the materials, machines and tools used ?
This is great! We're going to feature it in our Maker Show this Saturday. Thanks for sharing! Would love to see someone sitting in it! :) Subbed!
Hi! How do I get in touch with you? I can get extra photos if you like? Thanks
@@OldTownFabricationDesign That would be GREAT! You can email the pictures to info at coptool dot com. We shot the episode today, and will be editing it tomorrow. So if you can get us the photos before noon Friday, that would be great! Thanks again!
No problem at all. I'll have them sent over in the next hour or 2.
Tom
How would you use these chairs?
this is really cool! do you provide dimensions?
Dimensions would be helpful, as well as a human picture to provide scale. Thanks.
Hi Brian, If there is enough interest I will draw up some plans and make them available. Unfortunately I Couldn't Be in the shot, as I was a little busy behind the camera!
I'm definitely interested in the dimensions
Could you provide the dimensions please?
Could you speed it up a bit more. I could almost make sense of what you were doing
like and a sub from me just for the music alone!
Haha thanks!
Oh my word, this is awesome. Do you have a plan for this please?
