Hans to the rescue 😂 I have to say Lyn cactus’s are so much like desert roses, I have to do somewhat the same thing to the caudex (the bulb or the bum, that’s known in the D.R terms) ... we’ve had crap weather over here atm from it raining heavily to it being so so hot (some days nearly 40 degrees) and I’ve lost 6 of my junior plants, but that crap does happen unfortunately ... but thank God you got to this gorgeous cactus in time, yayyyy ... one other thing I totally agree with you is, YES it is crucial to get all that rot out, if not it’s just a waste of time, bc the rot WILL come back and 100% to seal the cut with ground cinnamon, it’s a natural healing powder to any plant really ... thank you Lyn and Hans, this video is VERY informative. 👍🏼🌵👍🏼

Oh No Cher, so sorry to hear that you have lost 6 of your junior plants this year, rot is such a pain when we get it on our plants and your Desert Roses are so very beautiful, its gutting if you lose them, the rain is such a pain, Cinnamon powder is fantastic for healing the cuts I agree and it smells so wonderful too haha

Aww Lyn, the poor plant! Luckily Prof Dr Hans Greenfingers was able to take charge and perform an excision to save the patient. Hope this lovely little thing will recover and take root for you soon. I think it's the cold and damp climate we get this time of year. I had an incident with mould over the weekend and a few of my cactus seedlings perished overnight! Cinnamon hasn't worked for me in the past so this time I sprayed the remaining seedlings with a mix of boiled water and a little tea tree oil. Warning: don't try this at home because my seedlings turned white (probably from shock!!)! End of experiment...wishing you lots of abundance and plant power across Ireland : - )

Yes guys s#&t happens! I lost my Hoodia bainii many years ago to the same thing! But was not able to save it. When I plant cuttings like this, I like to use a rooting hormone powder on the callused area & mix a bit in the soil I use to give it a little push, seems to work well. Just planted a couple of Euphorbia evansii cuttings I've had setting on a shelf since fall cause I noticed one was blooming! No roots or anything! The mother plant isn't even blooming! I will have to do a two step cutting method on them when they start growing to get the normal " tree" form or they will just grow like a long branch. It's how I grew my " mother tree" when I bought it 36 years ago as a rooted cutting. Best of luck with that Hoodia, looks like you have a good chance! From Morris park in the Ozarks to across the Emerald isle have a great day!!!!!

Binge-watching all your cactus cutting videos to make sure I did it correctly for my Mammillaria spinosissima haha. I cut off the rotted parts in April. It calloused over great in a few weeks but still no roots since then. Is that normal? I did place the calloused cuttings in soil but haven’t watered. They are pretty tiny and I hope I can save it since I’ve had this cactus since I was young. Anyway, keep up the awesome videos!! 💖👍

Hi there, so sorry to hear about your cactus, it can be a bit hit and miss if it can survive but you have done the best thing to cut the rot off, let it dry for a few weeks, hopefully your cactus should form a callus where it has been cut and should re grow over time, keep the cactus in a airy light position but away from direct sunshine until it has fully dried and formed a white hard scab over the cut, good luck with your cactus and thanks so much for your comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX
