ADIDAS ADIZERO TAKUMI SEN 8 - Long Run Review
Today I tested the ADIDAS TAKUMI SEN 8 over the 13.1 miles or 22km ish distance in some dry but windy conditions! 18mph winds with some 8c temps.
At around 7:45/mi or a little under 5:00/km pace on todays run keeping things at a steady aerobic effort. Aside from some faster half mile reps later in the run around my half marathon target paces.
I discuss the upper, midsole and outsole performance on todays change to my regular long run route.

People would have loved it as a marathon shoe years ago. Have we all got as soft as the midsoles have 😂
We have softened up. Maybe I should wear some school daps instead?!
A few years ago the elites still ran Marathons in Nike Streak shoes or Adidas Adios, basically racing flats.
Why would you not be able to run a Marathon in the Takumi Sen 8 which is way more cushioned than the shoes a few years ago. 🤷🏻♂️🤪
I would not be afraid to take this on a longer run.
Because people need to feel like they are running in bondi 8s….
As a bit of an adidas fanboy I’m so tempted to pick up a pair of TS8 for my next couple of races. They’re both 10 milers so should be the perfect shoe.
Garbology is one of my favorite projects from Aesop Rock in a long time, such great running music especially over a long run. Great pick there Edd! Best of luck when that half marathon comes up as well 👍
Thanks for the support Spaceman. Love that album. Gets better and better with each listen.
I was working on my computer whilst watching in a fairly dark room with a door slightly ajar to my right… and your spooky door SFX genuinely scared me (I was listening on AirPods Pro so the sound was very immersive) 😱
I used it in a 10K a few weeks ago and got a PR in it. 50 minutes 38 seconds. I would use it in a half but it wouldn’t be my first option.
I like the comment that it isn't a walking shoe. There are a few shoes people complain about the feel of a running shoe while walking lol
It drives me crazy! “The shoe felt odd in the heel when walking” 🤣🤣
Bought the Adios 6 after your recommendation - my new favourite, and SO cheap compared to most.
Speed 2 - tempo runs
Tempo next% - half marathon (heel is far too soft for me)
Pegasus 38 - slow daily shoe
Adios 6 - yet to see distance wise but it’s fast for me so far.
Escalante Racer - 🖤💚 - 5k/10k eventually once my feet adjust. Would compare the running experience to riding a fixed gear bike.
Love the upper. And it’s helping me learn to change my stride, used to be a heel striker but have nearly made the transition.
Think I may give the sen 8 a miss. Still looking for a good long run shoe, I know it would be the Vaporfly but I’m not spending that money on a running shoe. Premium hiking boots are that money!
Thank you for all your videos!
Like a Salad at McDonalds ! Classic Ed, love it
I’m actually tempted to buy this shoe again in a different colour if I can get them in a sale. I love this shoe but I got my last pair for £110 and wouldn’t want to pay much more than that for another pair
TS8 vs Adios6 preference:
training mid/long dis run, 10-16mi???
Perhaps the sen for the tempo plus efforts over distance.
I got these but unfortunately my foot is too wide for them 😢 I'd just have to stick with the Boston 12s
Yes the sen is always narrow
@@EDDBUD there a good shoe if I'm running on my toes at a a fast pace say 6 minute miles maybe that's where the shoe comes to life the toebox area is fine it's the midfoot that's the issue, had the same problem with Nike vaporflys but got to like them alot
Yeah course I have, but it's hard on the legs as you'd expect.
I used it to speed things along, an attempt to give the Nike fanboys something to worry about on the Bideford half.
Ever though about looking at Altra shoes, I did Looe - Polruan 12.5 mile yesterday, suffered as I ran serval miles to catch a train that wasn't there, I'd also messed up my carb load a bit.
But my mont blanc shoes were incredible, I had grip where the likes of sg4 and peregrine 12 were sliding all over.
Not to mention next day only my legs ached, where normally sciatica would be kicking in.
They're certainly worth a look.
26.2 k subs. It's a sign!
I’ve got a pandora play mix based on a mix of White Stripes, Greta Van Fleet, AC/DC, Seattle
Grudge, Sublime, Zep, and whatever the Pandora algorithm adds and it definitely gets me rolling and flowing. Love how music can do that !
Great video as always, still preferring my flats, liking the looks of the TS7 in the background 👀 👉🏼 Think the most cushioned shoe I have it the Adios 6 and that’s ample !!
Like your musical interlude - Aesop Rock's Long Legged Larry may be a good theme song for us runners ;-)
Great review 👌 - I too get into the music a bit too much and people must think I am lunatic esp during a Nirvana Grohl drum solo
Sounds good. I really like running in this shoe so I' ll give it a shot in a 20k or something at some point. Wouldn' t use it for a Marathon Training Longrun like 30k+ though.
Yes probably up to were i took it was fine, not sure its got the cushion for longer
The best rubber in the outsole it seems it is reserved for the big toe area. Same thing with my Adios 6 , where that tick rubber cover is looking new still after 150km where the rest of the rubber elsewhere in the outsole is desappearing quickly.
Let's see if Adidas will improve(or not) the entire outsole with their best Continental's rubber for the 2023/2024 Adizero line of shoes.
good power song to check out by We Were Promised Jetpacks - "Quiet Little Voices"
Interesting! How do they compare to asics metaspeed sky? Thanks
Summer summer time ⛅
You got it!
Hi Edd, thanks for review. I’m toying with getting a pair of these but am a casual runner. Normally run 5-10ks and the occasional half marathon. Would these suit my needs or would Boston 10 be better?
Thanks in advance for any replies
Perfect for 5 or 10k. The Boston 10 is a brick compared. These are the other end of the spectrum
I'm torn between this and Deviate Elite. Leaning Puma
Baby wipes for the win.
The best thing to clean your running shoes 👌🏼
Imagine taking the Sen 7 out on the long run, you'd need legs like Nijinsky!
Yes that one was much lower to the floor. Not like the trotters flat!
Ran a pb 8k in it. Wouldn't do a 10k in it though. Would use the Adios Pro 2
Dankeschön! Nice Review👍👍👍
I have a getting more shiny spot too. Improves airflow :P Good review
Set 10k and half M PB in these a few months ago. I'm considering them for a full marathon too
No issues up to a half. May lack the cushion for a full.
Trying to get away from Nikes and just bought these. I’ll let you no how it’s going. Brentwood Half Marathon next weekend looks like it’s going to be there first outing.
Hi, so how was your experience for these shoes compare to Nike at HM race?
@@wilbertspence7759 Dear sir, I would definitely put them in the half marathon market. I had absolutely no problems with them at all. In fact I have the Lea Valley half marathon tomorrow and I’m going to wear them again over my Alpha Flys. I would like to point out that I’m 10 stone 5lb so I’m probably on the lighter side and I’ve read the feed back that they may be not so effective for heavier runners, but overall these are superb shoes. Regards Simon.
@@dolphins19671 thank you for sharing your experienced and pointed out about body weight. As I'm a skinny guy as well, it will be not a problem then. Thanks!
Could you play indoor over 50,s football in these???
Bit too light in the upper for that. Grab some sambas.
How many kms have you done on them and how is the rubber holding up?
About 75 miles. Zero wear so far.
@@EDDBUD Good morning sir. Whuch do you recommend the adios 6 or takumi 8? I'm interested in versatility but also love super light shoes. I would prefer to have full lightstrike pro as i like that material more than regular lightstrike. The only thing that has me nervous is the durability of the rubber in the takumi ones.I own new balance Rebel V2, 1080 V10, new balance tempo. I don't use the tempo that much but i do use the rebel and 1080 a lot. I also have an xc spike less for grass and xc training. I'm heading the takumi sen 8 to use it for at least 70-100kms per month lol but i was afraid of the rubber drying too quickly. Well but there is a shoe repair center in my town that could put regular rubber.
Love rock music on a run AC/DC Def Leppard Guns n Roses propper motivational tunes!!!!
It has a pronounced effect on me Ashley!
I guess the people who complain about walking in them are doing that work out where you run a mile very fast then walk a minute between sets.
Or newer runners who run and walk there work outs.
Yes it’s the only explanation
Love these for mile time trials, but didn’t get on with them on my nine mile run today. They are a little narrow for anything longer than 20 minutes of running. I have feet slightly on the broader side, but couldn’t pass up the chance to get them as they were relatively cheap. I knew going in they were not well suited to broader feet.
Shame they dont seem to do any top end race shoes in a wider fitting.
Ok good. I don’t feel as guilty for not wanting to go running yesterday in minus 20c 60km wind gusts over here in Toronto Canada.
Although went for an 9K run eventually anyway after 2 hours of procrastination.
*Mental note...baby wipes to keep the runners baby fresh.
Your conditions were much worse than mine!
@@EDDBUD Still enjoyed the run with my merino base layer...once I warmed up!
Great follow up, solebrother!
Is there a big difference in the behavior of the energy rods compared to how they behave in the higher stack adizero shoes? The idea of stability that is a bit more “natural” appeals to me. I get the theory, I’m curious how it well it works in practice.
✌🏽💙🏃🏽♂️
The Takumi Sen are a lot more natural that the adios pro 2's and like Ed said they seem to get better the more you use them. I set a park run PB in them the other week, that's even against the Alphafly's. Wasn't a 5km PB but that actual park run PB for me as it has one 90° turn and an almost cut back turn as well as another two slightly awkward turns. I changed out the laces on them though as they looked washed out and a bit thin and I could the lace material sort of stuck against the sort of felt feel tounge on the shoe and until you really work each lace bit tight you suffer in lockdown but once that was sorted it was great. I find them as fast as if not a bit faster than the Pro 2's but just a lot more stable and as I have both I kind of struggle to pick the Pros over the Sen 8's now, and because I'm a occasional Park run runner and 10km racer I don't really do many long runs where huge stack in a must although I do have Vaporfly's, Alphafly's, Saucony Endorphin Pro Plus, in the arsenal as just love a new runner especially if they are on big sales.
@@scottfinlayson8920 wow! I appreciate you taking the time to provide so much detail. This is the kinda detail I needed to read before I invest in the “new adizero”.
I am a 5-10k runner. I don’t race, but I train hard. I’m a huge fan of lower stack speed shoes especially past Takumi Sen, and I think adidas does those best. Thanks again.
✌🏽💙🏃🏽♂️
Even had The Meat cleaver section!👍😃
🤣
Hi
Silver medal
No washing-up liquid?
🤣
Great review as per usual!
I still have the feeling that, soon the manufacturers will swing back to produce more super-flats. 😁
Are there any good Tempo shoes with some Stability built in? Been looking for a pair recently.
LIKE 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
What about the Nike Rival Fly 3? would you also take this shoe up to the half marathon distance?
I have a race next month ... thinking of testing them out, how they feel over the 21.098k :)
Don't. I guess they are probably fine until the 15k mark but that still leaves you with 6k to go
@@XBaxterG I have the same feeling :) but I'll take them out for a longer run this week ... about 18-20k ... just want to know how they will feel 😀
Would you choose the takumi over adios pro 2?
Quite a bit lighter and glove like fit
Aesop Rock is lyrical beast🔥 So much better than that Eminem guy😂
Yes. A total legend of crispy beats wrapped in a lyrical puzzle which is fun to untie!
Hi
Just off podium

@@EDDBUD Finally beat Cheeskter! 🥇
How could you upload in the middle of an Arsenal match, Edd?! 🤦🏻♂️
Watching arsenal and Brooklyn nets at the same time.
@@EDDBUD I've been using the Degree deodorant commercial starring Keven Durant as my new mantra when I'm running-- " It might look like your body is crying thats because it is. You might think its a sign that your body is telling you to stop. But these are tears of joy. If you listen closely you'll hear every muscle and joint is crying out to you. Yes! Don't stop keep going. Well, who am I to tell my body no "
What kind of perks? You don't even stream anymore
I havent streamed in a while for personal reasons. Maybe look at the join page which tells you the perks?
Danke scön edd. You should listen to live at river plate some time. Imo it’s a way better album :)
