Kessler is the Musical Director. that's leading to something. Drummer is fantastic in between styles, including jazz and punk. Paul is the energy, the soul live. Carlos a genius, Carlos is Carlos so he came up for the audition without an instrument. That's Interpol originally. Interpol continues forward. I'm still digesting all this marvelous compositions since 2020.December 18th.
Having written song lyrics, I can tell you that 'meaning' doesn't always play a part; sometimes shit just sounds good. It's an aural art form after all.
I agree. Sometimes it just feels and sounds right, and it doesn't necessarily have to make sense. Paul has actually said some lines are just that, phrases that sounded good.
Absolute opposite, their live presence is better than their studio presence. Paul controls everything in complete statis, Carlos is statuesque and completely nails every note. The footage here is not a good example of their live work.
It is probably the lyrics that have made me stick with this for so long. I still don't get some of them and try to find new meanings in them. The band stays as long as the intrigue. I thinm they will stay with me forever because I will never get over with the lyrics.
I believe that Turn On The Bright Lights was one of their best albums but their lyrics have always been weird to me. But their lead singer said that he doesn’t get their lyrics either.
@balarama77, it's been over a decade I've been listening to Interpol & I'm still figuring out what some lyrics and songs mean. The mystery never ends! Which is a delightful thing. =)
They actually aren't that bad out of tune, it's this song with all the major seconds everywhere. These sort of chords are like a black paintjob on a car. If you ever bend the strings ever so slightly sharp, it will sound like this, or if you are ever so slightly off, a major second will jump out of the mix like a sore tooth. Enjoy it for the quality of the composition and especially the incredible bass lines, but being a bit out of tune is part of many shows, and this song is built on chords that are absolutely unforgiving.
@ratonnelaveur thanks for your answer, it is indeed a very fortunate coincidence, stumbling upon some never-seen-before Interpol vid is always great :)
this is awesome, thanks a lot! do you know where it comes from/ when it was first aired? some of the live bits obviously come from their show at La Route du Rock but what about the rest?
10:26 No Carlos!!!! what you just said! that's all the answers the band tried to not to say. For me it's ok to remember the bands that influences you but I get that if your music is so close to your fav bands you want to avoid at all cost to mention them
it’s not that interpol is shy about their influences, in fact daniel, paul, and sam were also vocal about their influences it’s just that none of them except carlos really were too fond of joy division. in fact interpol never really sounded like jd to me in any of their records.
@jbrobert I'm afraid I don't know... Just found it on an old website and there was no further information at all, guess it was some sort of fortunate coincidence that I came across this site ;)
he was tired of touring and wanted to stay in nyc, he didn’t get along with sam or paul and things became awkward, he didn’t want to be a musician anymore. other than not being too fond of the bass, he was actually quite miserable in interpol after antics.
boo. They're really going to pretend that their sounding like Joy Division is just a coincidence. And the one punk not even wanting to site them directly as an immediate influence?! Hate when pretentious musicians don't want to admit what bands influenced them, especially when it is obvious. They make some good music, but lost some respect for these hipsters after watching that.
Daniel Kessler is the glue that keeps Interpol together.

This band is timeless
Love how all the footage is from the 2002 show where Paul was so wasted he sung like a goat and messed up lyrics...Obstacle 1... hilarious
wasted because of?
@BlackField wasted inherently implies alcohol
No it was 2001
@@kaesekrustechannel - He's admitted to doing coke.
he actually did both coke and alcohol
the 144p resolution takes me back to 2001/02 even more
Selvin Cunningham It's the extra built-in nostalgia feature haha Wish I had an HD version but then that would destroy it.
Who else miss this Interpol?
Everyone but new interpol is cool too
Having written song lyrics, I can tell you that 'meaning' doesn't always play a part; sometimes shit just sounds good. It's an aural art form after all.
Your life has no meaning
Thank you so much for posting this incredible documentary! LOVE INTERPOL!❤
Interpol is amazing. NYC is so good...
min: 2:20 Paul saying UNO DOS TRES
He do speaks spanish, fuking love him
I agree. Sometimes it just feels and sounds right, and it doesn't necessarily have to make sense. Paul has actually said some lines are just that, phrases that sounded good.
Daniel's got some crazy hair in these earlier videos. O.O
It's called "Precipitate".
PDA is the greatest song of all time.
It’s just not though is it 😂
Great Post! Where ever you found this, its great!!! WE LOVE INTERPOL. I met them on my b-day last year best day of my life!

Carlos D: Legend
It saddens me that the media or critics don't consider Paul as one of the best Writers of the . Interpol letters are deep and broad
Absolute opposite, their live presence is better than their studio presence. Paul controls everything in complete statis, Carlos is statuesque and completely nails every note. The footage here is not a good example of their live work.
Seen them close to 10 times and I want Carlos to comeback. I guess he was tired of it. They were a band 4 years before TOTBL came out.
thanks for uploading it :) I guess like of interpol fans I'm still trying to decipher their cryptic lyrics fully :P what a band!!!

Seen them in Chicago a few times and we're just so engaging live feel like your right up on stage jamming with them

i can't tell you how much I love their music... i miss carlos... i miss greg... i miss interpol
2:18
"1..2..3" OMG I love him Hahaha

omg... What is the last song that was played? right at the end? I've never heard it before?
1:11 lol how Paul sings, "I a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-am."
@ratonnelaveur thanks for your answer, it is indeed a very fortunate coincidence, stumbling upon some never-seen-before Interpol vid is always great :)

10:30 😢 awww bb carlos
Very very special band
craigbeck256 this is not a 90s band
The last great rock band
10:26 No Carlos!!!! what you just said! that's all the answers the band tried to not to say.

I guess it's from 2001 or 2002, around the time their first EP came out.
Thankyou
HOLY SHIT! Thank you! :)
Awesome!
Carlos left because he was tired of playing the bass, not cause he was tired of the band.
Allan Fernandez lol not true bud
he was tired of touring and wanted to stay in nyc, he didn’t get along with sam or paul and things became awkward, he didn’t want to be a musician anymore.
other than not being too fond of the bass, he was actually quite miserable in interpol after antics.
Well done.
got it in higher quality????
I wish I had...
You are right. Love Interpol but Paul's goat voice 1:11-1:21 and Daniel's poor timing have become all too commonplace. :o( Truth hurts.
Saint Malo show xD
What's the song at 3 minutes?
NYC

Mario lmao who cares
Only Carlos was influenced by post punk, Paul literally listens to hip hop and it’s hilarious
its like when Greta Van Fleet wont list Led Zeppelin as an influence
wich part sounds like Joy Division
Actually, Paul Banks said that one of his influences was Nirvana.
