  • Scroll saw blades. Pegas vs Flying Dutchman vs Niqua Speed.
In this video we share some thoughts on our experiences of using Pegas blades, Flying Dutchman blades and Niqua Speed blades, when working in hard woods here at our family workshop.
All of these scroll saw blades are very well made but we share our views on the strengths and weaknesses of using each one when working with our Hegner Multicut 2S.
The scroll saw is one of the most important machines here at our family workshop. It is in daily use and selecting the best scroll saw blade is essential to guarantee us getting the most out of our time working with the scroll saw.

You were spot on about each blade all 3 are great quality blades Niqua is my blade of choice I think in my 40 plus years of sawing I have used I think every brand of blade there is I used Flying Dutchman a lot I’d lost a way to get Niqua an found a supplier an that’s about all I use now

Thanks Jerry, hope all is well with you. It's always great to hear from you with your own thoughts and experience. Blades are such a broad and important part of getting the best out of using a scroll saw, so it's always great to hear the thoughts of everybody on the subject.
Thank you as always for your continued support of our UA-cam channel. All the very best from us all. 👍👍

Thanks Mark, hope all is well with you. It can indeed be a bit of a challenge to get hold of blades. We have to get ours directly from the factory in Germany. Axminster tools have a good range of Pegas blades but we prefer working with the Niqua speed blades.

Your Hegner saw looks really smooth in action ,mine just keeps lifting the wood up !!

The Hegner multicut 2s is a great scroll saw. I have ours bolted to the base and the base bolted to the floor to minimise vibration and reducing the chances of the wood jumping. Getting the tension on the blade correct is another possible cause of any jumping wood too.
Hope you get to the bottom of the issue. Thanks again for supporting our UA-cam channel, all the very best from us all. 👍👍

The pegas blades is what I was talking about being to brittle

They're the easiest for us to get hold of but not my personal favourites. I wonder if they work better on a Pegas scroll saw.

I have now used all three brands for both hard and soft woods. I also cut different thicknesses of plywood. I started scrolling with Ultra Reverse Flying Dutchman and I really like them the best overall. But, I do think that the same type blade from Pegas ( Geometry) might be cutting a little faster and straighter using the same types of wood I normally cut. As for the Niqua that basically matches the Flying Dutchman, the jury is still out. They are ok, but I won't be buying anymore. I'll keep buying the Flying Dutchman and a couple of the Pegas I like. The Pegas doesn't slip in my DW788 Type ll Scroll Saw. None of the Niqua ever broke for me. But, maybe it is because I use the larger sizes or I was just lucky. Thanks for your evaluation! Take care!

Hi Michael, great to hear from you as always and thank you for sharing your thoughts. Just out of interest, was it the Niqua speed blades you bought? I have previously had Niqua Fix blades and found them impossible to work with. The Niqua speed or Niqua Pebecco blades have always been my own favourite to work with but the Flying Dutchman blades were basically the same blades with a different name on the packet. Pegas were great once they had been sanded on either end.
Thank as always for your support, all the very best from us all. 👍👍

@@DailovespoonsThomas The Niqua is Ultra Skip + Reverse #9 12TPI. The Pegas I like is the Modified Geometry #12R 8.6TPI. I can't remember the other Niqua one because I used them up and tossed the info. I won't buy any more Niqua. I just bought the one size Pegas and I like it.

@@michaelmarchione3408 hi Michael, thanks for getting back to me on that one. Not a blade I have ever used myself. The one I use is the Niqua speed blade and has a lower tpi. Always great to hear about different blade experiences.
Thanks again, take care, all the very best from us all. 👍👍

Spot on Gordon. For ourselves in the Uk it is more common to see them packaged as Niqua. The USA seems to be marketed more as Flying Dutchman. I remember when we first used Flying Dutchman blades and realised aften ten minutes they are the same blades.

Sounds a similar story to ourselves. Myself and dad used them independently and both realised it the same as yourself.
