I met the alchemist at chalice cup years ago. Al was just walking around the crowd alone. Very low key. Blended in with everyone.
He was a very chill... I told alchemist he is a hip hop legend and he was slightly taken back... so fucking humble... I learned something that day.

I respect Alchemist for what he said but guys, I personally think no other hip hop album would honestly have the sound that Madvillainy had, that was Madlib and DOOM's highlight of their career and it is such a phenomenal album, changed my life. DOOM's death still hurts me to this day, RIP.

If anybody should know how good Madlib is it's Alchemist. People seem to forget that the man did the Gangrene albums with Madlib's brother Oh No, so he should know first hand how deadly Madlib really is. Plus Madlib produced the entire Bandana album on a frickin IPad.
I wish these beat battles were unreleased beats , then the live crowd picks the winner. I don't get excited just hearing all the songs I already knew they produced.

I don't want anyone thinking Al takes an L for this. If anything he declined to avoid toxic viewership, Al deserves to be etched into the hall of fame as well as Madlib. They're both Titans that have remained in the game for under 30 years and in this day and age thats rare, I got so much love and respect for both these men. A joint album between these two would shake the musical world let alone solely Hip-Hop.

I mean the way the battle is setup is based on how many people vibe with their old hits. I think alchemist is saying its not really fair from a producer perspective. You got fanboys who will be biased to the songs/hits versus the talent ,work , genius put into the track. Like Dilla ain't have that many billboard hits but we know he the goat.
both monsters. champion sound, madvillainy, pinata, bandana, alfredo, haram, the good book... i find that madlib shines with the underground gangster music, not to say he isn't versatile (he could do whatever he wsnted really) whereas alc shines with the abstract, blunted and poetic "broken record" music.
id still take madlib. id say 9th wonder is more a battle for alc.

Hey alchemist has one of the biggest vinyl records collections out there. My dad has a serious collection to but he worked for a Boston radio station so I would get all the promo tapes that came in and 1 day the sugar Hill gang came in and he filed it away under rap. I didn't know at the time but that tape would changed my life and the sugar Hill gang didn't swear in and had no hook on like a fuckin 10 minute song. The full song was like 10 the radio version was like 4 and change but to hear back to back rappin about shit every dude in the PJs to the ppm who just ate a shitty dinner at there boys house B4.. that shit was so fresh
