23:21 You are very right about the theme of "suffering" in Russian art, and as a Russian I can confirm this. We even have a saying about it: "Russian literature consists of suffering. Either the character, or the author, or the reader suffers. And if it's all three, it's a masterpiece of Russian literature." I think this saying can also be applied to all other art in our country, but it is not something bad thing, it is just a style of our life, a part of us and we have learned to enjoy this melancholy in our own way. I just came across your channel today, it's very interesting so far, I'll keep watching.
I'm glad you find my videos interesting! Art is about evoking emotions and unfortunately in the West we often dismiss any art that doesn't create feelings of joy or happiness. Everyone suffers in life to some extent, and experiencing it through art can help us understand and process those emotions. At least that has been the case for me.
Everything you said about Bethesda made me laugh, it's so true and relatable. Edit: "Chris Robert's has been talking out his ass for years." Lmao, I think you're my favorite vtuber.
Calls 'em like I sees 'em. He is a textbook example of the many 90's rockstar devs that have been riding the clout of One Good Game for 30+ years. I could say WAY more on the subject but a comment section is no place for an essay.
Really like your vids, so far. Looking ahead to catch you live on twitch. But have to say: Sean Connerys character in highlander wasnt spanish. He was egyptian^^
I will say, in regards to Star citizen. It does say something that those of us that are fans of the game really just look at it from an “underdog” kinda mentality. Like every time they manage to get something working it’s like “good god they did it!” For context, I was convinced to buy in after watching streamers who “never see that many issues” and I only bought one ship to get in.
Actually now that I think about it, it’s kinda like watching an Urban mech fight a super heavy. Like we all know what’s probably going to happen but my god you still route for little urby
The problem I have with SC is the problem I have with early access and kickstarter in general: people that sell ideas but never deliver. The thing with Chris is back in the 90s when he came up every game was an innovation and people were pushing the envelope all the time. We went from Arena to Oblivion in 12 years. Now all the tech (and Cryengine specifically) are focused on appearance first and MAYBE functionality third or fourth. The kind of ground-breaking changes you would need to make Star Citizen just don't happen anymore.
Oh don’t get me wrong, I agree almost completely. I was sold on an idea of a game. Chris is full of ambition but definitely doesn’t know how to achieve it. At the very least, I believe that he believes he can get it to work eventually. Most SC fans are the guys in the back of the room cheering when the SC team manages to get an elevator to work, then laughing when they break it in the very next patch. HOWEVER I have seen whales galore. Which are the problem. They are the ones who fund AND sell the game. They will rope other into the game on the “there arnt as many issues as people complain about” but it’s rampant.
I agree about game criticism, it's happening with Starfield even now. The initial criticism was over very stupid things like "Wah, the game lets you pick pronouns! It's woke!" and all that rubbish, but now the discussion has shifted to relevant conversation about things like Bethesda's approach to the open world or their massive overreliance on radiant, simple quests with little narrative to them.
Bethesda is similar to Ubisoft in that they basically have the one winning formula and they just cannot seem to break away from that well. In defense of both, the well hasn't completely run dry yet since people keep buying it up. Skyrim & FO4 caught flak at launch for a lot of the same stuff as Starfield but they are held in good regard today due to post-launch polish and active modding scenes. I expect Starfield will fit neatly into that niche as well given time.
Honestly, I feel like Starfield just seems so... plain? Outer Worlds, for all its' lackluster qualities, at least had visual flair. Everything I've seen from Starfield just looks like bland grey rooms or caverns on asteroids. I hope modders can fix that.@@MariyaMiran
