    Lee, sometimes I see photographers using max flash sync, then I see others, like yourself, who may or may not use max flash sync. So the question is, when using flash, what determines which speed to set it for - is it strictly to satisfy the exposure triangle
    for a "correct exposure" or what? And this - how does one determine the power value of the flash for a particular setup?
    Bushels of thanks!

    • @LeeHallphotography
      @LeeHallphotography  Рік тому

      Good day my friend thank you for taking the time to send me a message. There is a couple of reasons I use a flash with macro photography.
      If I am taking pictures of insects or moving subjects I use a flash for the sole purpose of freezing the subject and to take the dark shadows out so the picture is more sharp. The power of the flash for this method is usually around 1/32 because I don't want lose the national colours of the background..
      With my indoor water droplet shots it really is all about bouncing the light off the background to cast the colours into the milky water. So it really is about the exposure triangle more and it really is a fantastic way to learn about the triangle.
      But to be fair and truthful it really is all about freezing your subjects like I said and a good rule to use is to start off at 1/64 power on your flash and work from there.
      Also there is no rule to say you have to say you have to set your camera to the flash sync. I ofter set .y came at 1/80 of a second at f8 and iso 400. And just put my flash on 1/64. Because I am only using the flash as a filling light to remove the shadows.
      I hope this helps you out and once again thank you for taking the time to send me a message
      Happy snapping
      Lee
