I heard that Zach’s buddy, the guy who invited him, told him later that the guys at the table fixed his spades hand (while he was in a food coma) so that he had the best hand ever and they could mess with him 😂

That’s what I figured. The spades hand, the aunties with potato salad, the dice, I figure they were having a bit of good natured fun with him, and taking his measure at the same time. He got asked back, so he obviously passed. 😁

I think all of his stories are based on actual events, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are a bit embellished. After all, if you can't improve on a story, you have no business retelling it.

I have a story like this one but I was a kid.
I grew up Mormon, and at one point, I think I was 12 or 13 (8th grade) I invited my black friend to Church. It was okay, everyone was nice to him, if not particularly welcome. He was the only black person in the entire church.
The following week I was invited to visit his church. He was Baptist.
The preacher was out greeting everyone coming in, he must have heard I was coming, because he asked if I was the Mormon boy. I said I was and he just grinned and said I was about to see a very different way to worship the Lord.
Boy, he wasn't kidding. It gave me a love for gospel music I still have to this day. EVERYONE went out of their was to make me feel welcome and wanted. No one made me feel out of place even though I was the only white person there.
It would have been a 100% positive experience if it wasn't for the shame I felt that my friend was not made to feel so welcome and wanted at my church. And that shame did not come from my friend or any of the Baptists. And anyone who thinks it's wrong to feel shame over how "my people" have treated other people, well, that shame is justified.
Shame is a good emotion. It's unpleasant for a reason, it makes us avoid making the same unjust actions in the future.
Definitely need to watch Mama T's Fish Fry. It's the continuation of this story.

Both dominos and dice are referred to as bones... Where I grew up, if you were referring to dominos you'd say let's go slap some bones... & dice would be let's throw some bones.

I've been right where he was, only white kid at a cookout. One of the best fish frys I've ever been too. I did help catch the fish. Don't kid yourself, some of these rules apply to the white version. Anything Mamaw hands you, you eat. Don't pick sides on any recipe. That's also how I learned to play dominoes, from all the cousins I ran around with.

I'm white, but I'm also a Vet (ex-USAF). During our lunch break and on deployments we play card games like Spades, Hearts and poker to pass the time while the top brass tries to figure out the difference between their a$$es and their elbows. But when play spades, we are cutthroat,go for the jugular and we revell in the blood of out opponents.
BTW, when the play spades at the cookouts, do the play the sissy version or do they play the big boy version where they throw out the duce of hearts and diamonds and add the jokers?
