    I bought a 2016 JCB 280 wheeled machine because of the side door and visibility. I can't see going back to anything else. I do have a few complaints that I think JCB should address to make a better machine. I think some of the adjustments for handling that are currently handled by a tech using a laptop should be user adjustable through a menu on the overhead display. The vents for heat and ac rattle around and don't stay pointed where you want them...plus it's hard to get air to blow on the door and right side window to keep the fog off because of the way the vents are angled. I feel the joysticks could use just a very slight increase in spring tension to help keep from making inadvertent joystick movements when moving over rough ground. And finally I think that a stronger bucket tilt cylinder would be better. I don't have the bucket roll back power that I did with my Case 435 series III. When carrying a heavy bucket of material or using my Arts-Way bedding spreader, the bucket continually wants to creep forward and I have to keep rolling it back. It's been a problem since new. I know these aren't major issues but addressing these would turn a very, very good machine into an excellent one. Great review Ryan and I agree completely with it. Anybody thinking about buying a JCB skid steer will not regret the decision.

    Hey guy I run a 330G Deere skidder, hoses are kept in pretty tight and within the boom. The ones that go down into the side frame are also retained in place, so they have done some improvement lol. They all got some room for improvement... just my 2cents

    Not sure what you're going to do when they finally pick it up. Having that extra machine really seemed to make life on the farm that much easier. I'm sure there are conversations to be had with JCB, and even if you knew now what is going to happen, I'm sure you wouldn't tell us until you're ready anyways ;) Interested to see what the future holds for a second machine on the farms!

    You did not make mention of the side door, pro or con. Which in essence is the purpose of the side boom. My Daughter's Father-in-law has this model in the wheel version for 2 years now and loves it. Of course he is in his 50's. But for him the biggest plus is the side door access. It's a age thing. It's amazing how climbing over a bucket for 30 years can produce wisdom as a side affect. Someone at JCB got wise.

    Good review Rayn. Could see how that extend boom would be handy .Ran just a regular boom one a few weeks ago. Nice looking machine but just not enough protection for the windows and bumpers for what we use it for. Also keep it out of more then a foot of water. The Ecm is on the bottom of the cab, and this was a warning giving to us from a jcb mechanic.

    the other thing with the tracks is to add spikes or flat plates across the width of the tracks for more traction as i had noticed on quite a few occasions when you started moving the tracks would wheel spin ( like going from 0 to 60 ) quite a lot mostly on dirt as those tracks are rubber meaning they are designed for road usage more then off road that is the reason you got stuck as well

    My brother runs compact track loaders all day, everyday for a construction company that probably builds 500 houses a year. I consulted him on on purchasing a track loader and he told me that if you buy a wheeled loader, you better buy two because you'll be pulling one out of the mud all day long. In our area we have a lot of red clay and wheeled loaders are useless on it. Even given the extra maintenance of cleaning the tracks, the only time I would ever use a wheeled loader is in a gravel or paved lot. Tracked loaders are literally better in every other situation. Honestly, they're better on pavement and gravel too, but the tracks wear fast and it becomes expensive to keep them up.

    I hope you get the JCB. It just seems to so much more versatile, and regarding the price of tracks it should balance out since they last longer than the tires. Atleast thats what Wes from ALF said in one of his videos. Keep rockin' and love both yours and Travis' channel

  • @2009deerejohn
    @2009deerejohn 5 років тому

    I really would love to try one out, I’ve never spent much time in wheeled skid steers because in construction they really don’t have much use outside paving IMO, I prefer tuning tracks on hot top because the turning is smoother, tired catch and throw you around in the cab. I am amazed of the balance that machine has, anyone that’s run a Cat on tracks knows how bad they want to tip over forward, with that extra reach on the JCB I paid a lot of attention to the ass end when you were running it and seldom did I see day light. Totally agree that ISO controls are the way to go but I’m biased because the first skid steer I ever ran was a Takeuchi so I had a lot of ISO hours before I ever ran the other control types. What was your experience with the JCB dealer? There isn’t on super close in my area and let’s face it, the greatest machine on earth is useless with out strong dealer support

    Bobcat has pin and bushings on both sides to carry load so mute point. I really like the side door. Sucks to have to make sure the boom and bucket are all the way down to exit the machine like our Cat. Love the Cat- just not that part of it.

    • @timr86868
      @timr86868 5 років тому

      the pins on the bobcat are half the size. A pin with twice the size of another pin has 4x the cross sectional area. So it's way more than twice as strong.

    • @leinie6683
      @leinie6683 5 років тому +1

      Id be willing to bet the unloaded boom on the tele is more than twice as heavy as the unloaded booms on the bobcat. Also the lift capacity on the tele is probably much much higher- so really not a relevant comparison. The big bushing/pin on the Tele is adequate for its purpose- the Bobcats is suitable for its.

    Cat is pretty terrible with exposed hoses, especially the 299. The drive motors have hoses running out the belly pan to them with no shielding. Fine long as you stay out the woods or mulching. Bobcat kinda committed the same sin in a way by having hydraulic self tensioning tracks on the new 870 with the an exposed hose running out to the track. One side it works off all the time from anything bumping because the thread direction to loosen is the same if anything pushes against it.

    How much money did the teleboom add to the price?

    If only you knew how much the JCB Teleskid costs, you'd have to use it to clean out your BVDs. The old Farmall M with a DU-AL loader might be an antique, but she still gets the job done. Plus, she's paid for.

    Sounds like the only bad thing about the JCB is the price.

      Go from great visibility to worst visibility in a tracked machine.

    You cant compare a model year 18 or 19 track machine vs a 2001 skid steer. What is the roc of each unit.

    I just don't see a tracked machine working well for you guys feeding cattle on the frozen Wisconsin winters. You pointed out the benefits of a tracked machine, but I would much rather be on a chained up wheeled machine in the winter.
