    INFO:
Video for replacing your timing belt on all 2.7t and 2.8L Audi/VW V6 engines,
INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING: JHM Exclusive Timing Belt Kit Install Video UPDATED with how to use cam lock bar and crank lock. Also more crank seal info.
NOTE: This video shows you how to replace the timing belt properly and effectively without any expensive alignment bars or special tools. It also walks you through the Water Pump and Thermostat replacement.
NOTE: for Cam seal replacement: Before you take the cam sprockets off, you must do the following if you don't have the cam locking bar. You need to undo the 16mm bolts on the sprockets, then mark very well with a sharp screwdriver and or chisel how the sprocket keys to the cam. There are no keys on the cam or sprocket, it is a tapered fit and will spin infinitely. So you must mark it before popping the sprockets off so you can put them exactly back where they were. If you don't mark it and put the sprockets right back to where they were then you will need a cam locking bar.

I noticed that the end you talked about bleeding the air out of the system I can't speak for all cars but I know on a 2000 Audi A6 the highest point in the system appears to be the heater hose located next to the battery and on the one to the left side of the car there is a hole in the top of the hose you can bleed the system by loosening the clamp and pulling the hose towards the end of the bung until you have enough of the hole exposed to bleed the air

The tool is actually to lock the cams and crank into place so the cam doesn’t spin and bend a valve. Tool kit is $26 id say that’s worth it 🤔

You saved me hours of frustration.. a huge thank you!
I own a 2005 Allroad Quatro 2.7T and have to replace my clutch fan assembly as I believe the bearing are shot. Loads of putrid smoke coming from it. I replaced the fan thinking that was it but nope still smoke so it has to be the assembly.
Locating the lower hidden 6 mm Allen bolt was what I needed.
I noticed that someone had made the timing location marks like you did so I'm assuming the timing belt has already been done.
Hopefully once it's all back together I'll get to enjoy my Audi again. :)
    Thanks a million!

Fast Fwd to 2023...the plasic impeller pums are still around in mass, as a matter of fact it is rather difficult to find goos ones with metal impellers. I am just in the middle of doing my 2,8. I also "upgraded" to a metal thermostat housing...the plasic one are...well, cheap but not good.

Awesome video, well done, but at 12:47 when you line it up, does that mean that it is in top dead center ????

One issue, don't assume it was in perfect time. Seen them off a. Tooth. At least use the straight edge and double check that crank

Great video. What do you do if the large holes don't line up on the cam sprockets? the right side is up a half inch while the left is straight across when at top dead center.

Got the 2.4 which looks identical to the 2.8 so hopefully this works, fingers crossed. I got quoted 300€ and 260€ from 2 different shops. Thats just labor. DIY might take me 2-3 days. fingers crossed.

All of my coolant hoses were shot, ballooning from oil leaks. And my secondary water pump was cracked and dripping. I bypassed it.

left cam shaft moved a little when taking belt off. tried to nudge it bck into place but then it rotated clockwise quite a bit and the marks are well out of alignment on the left cam. crank marks stil TDC and right cam still on its marks. what do i do to get left cam back to its marks . just rotate it back to its marks?

  • @codyatkinson
    @codyatkinson 4 роки тому

So i took my belt off after aligning the crank shaft. My problem is the passenger side cam is completely opposite of the driver's cam. How can I turn it so the big hole is facing the driver's side cam which has the big hole already pointing inward.

I have a 1997 A6 quattro and it does not have a tensioner only the pulley . I bought a used engine and it doesn't have the tensioner either. both have the bolt holes and I drove my car for years as it is.

Yes, the 2.7T and 2.8 V6 share the same procedure for the timing belt/water pump job.

This is not the proper way to do your timing belt. There's zero excuse to do this without a cam lock bar and a crank lock pin. You can pick them up for 20 bucks. Wonder what your correction factors look like on a log. Don't do guess work, do it right and know your timing is on point. There's other videos outlining the proper way to do this.
