Awesome video, great instructions, good production, thank you for making it. Two suggestions or recommendations for your ring making. One, no need to spread the rings, just cut them as the spring. Spreading them apart can distort them and make them different sizes. Second, when cutting the rings, you should use a hacksaw at least. The cutters you have, don't cut, they pinch the metal leaving two 'v's. It can leave burrs but also when the rings line up just right, they can slide apart. By using the hacksaw, it's a flush cut that butts together leaving no gaps.
Thank you again for making the video, an excellent resource for anyone who wants to get into making this!

I’ve never been sorrier to take the advice of a commenter on the internet anywhere. Not saying I do it often, but this sucked enough I need to say something. Not separating the rings with a key earlier meant that my beautiful perfect rings were so close to sealed already that I had to use pliers to pull them apart before I could pop them in and close them again in the proper pattern. This added a shit amount of time and an innumerable amount of new defects and warping because pulling the rings apart was less consistent than just using an alan key/wrench to make the space for me beforehand. Bad suggestion. Try it before you recommend it. Smh.

Thanks for this video, I’ve been trying to make this chain for awhile but non of the other videos I saw made sense to me. Including the chart was great but for some reason it wasn’t until I heard you describe it as a mouth of a dragon that it all came together for me. Thank you again. I have since subscribed to your channel and would love to see some videos of stuff that I can in an afternoon with common items (I live in a rural part of Haiti and do not have access to much of the material you use). Keep up the great work.

    • @SawdustAndCalluses

Instead of separating the coil, leave the spiral tight together, then saw through one side with your saw parallel with the length of the coils. You can cut dozens of rings out at once, with square ends.

well lets see now, judging by the length of the coil as shown i would estimate that he used roughly 2-ish feet of wire to make it, not knowing what kind of steel that thing is made of i can only assume that its a low carbon steel, due to its flexibility. the difference in low and high carbon steel is not huge but still kinda significant when it comes to resistivity, it varies from 1 to 10 × 10^(−8) so it can have a resistivity of anything between 7.6mΩ to 76mΩ. in any case its not a lot.
