  • Justin Marshall - former All Blacks halfback and now one of the world's best rugby commentators and analysts - joins Martin Devlin on It's Only Sport, to recap New Zealand's 47-5 win over Fiji in San Diego, while also looking ahead to the Rugby Championship. The All Blacks rounded out their July test window with a comfortable win over their Pacific neighbours, in a contest where coach Scott Robertson was able to trial fresh combinations and blood new caps.
    Marshall and Devlin discuss the match and how convincing - if at all - the All Blacks were, the greater challenge that Argentina will present, how former captain Sam Cane fits into the current side, and more.

    i remember the All Blacks having a "spectacle international" in Chicago with the Irish back when they had never beaten us. Well they made history that day and the spectacle was at our expense.

    Cane in the squad for training and teaching. Old dog has the tricks.
    But can’t see him taking a playing spot unless injuries happen.

      Really? That is not a good reason? Great player but it's time to move on.

      Yes, Cane is very good. The world cup final would have been a different outcome if he was not red carded

      100% not seeing our 6 and 8 have freedom in the wide channels because Cane is not there

      He is good but i think we have moved on from cane now. He would be good as a backup if depth is to be tested. Good to have in camp for the younger crew too. I think he is a bit stuff in his technique perhaps maybe not as agile and mobile as he once used to be. Havnt seen him play lately so not 100% sure if he is in form

    Come on Marshall you should know Razor more than most.. he is no mug. He knows the AB’s pack is World class, and with young players pushing the established players there is strong competition for starting positions. Williams, Tosi, Aumua, Bell, Darry, Satiti all impressed! Having talent like that in the forwards will give Razor confidence he can give players like Ratima and Proctor a solid foundation to work off and maybe vital experience moving forward.

    Choosing Cane would be a big step backwards. Proctor and Clarke to start and Jordan to 14 when fit. Sititi off the bench and Ardi to 7, glad Darry is in the squad to pressure Vaai who has improved but needs to show more. Both young half-backs are an improvement to 2 step Christie and whoever the kicking coach is for Mackenzie needs sacking.

    yeah nah sam cane does not start or come off bench, grab him only if we have a shortage of loosies, which we do not.

    Stupid collars on the jersey makes them look Armish. Start with B B at 10 and Mackenzie at 15. He is better coming from the back seeing more space ahead of him. Ratima looked like Aaron Smith playing. Play him

      McKenzie hasn’t got the size to make that final tackle. He seems to bounce off. BB way better at that final tackle

    Would be stupid to bring Caine back. He hasn't played and should not have played ahead of Daulton last year. If he plays this year we lose a year of development

    All 7 hybrid types except Finau and Wallace , the balance looks a bit off

    Why are we talking about Sam cane. Move on. His ill discipline under pressure cant be condoned after so many instances. i.e. irish series loss and world cup loss.

  • @muddhutter
    @muddhutter 2 місяці тому

    Sam Cane's career as an AB is over, he was a world class player for NZ rugby. Time to move on. Selecting him for the Rugby Championship will achieve what? Oh, that's right 100 caps. That is not a good reason to be selected. New coaching staff, new era.

    • @jameshartzenberg5763
      @jameshartzenberg5763 2 місяці тому

      Razor looks holistic to any player. Servants to NZ rugby can't just be push aside. It will be great to send him away on a high ; 100 th cap in which ever game (his choice) to say thanks you for his efforts and contribution to NZ rugby. Foster is to be blame for any negativity and dislikes towards Cane. For me it will be compensation for being biasly red carded in RWC final.

    Entertainment factor, no doubt. But don't underestimate Fiji. See what they did at the RWC 2023.
