====== 82nd All The Way Lyrics =====
In the draft of 1917, a man from Tennessee
Overseas to the trenches he went, from the land of the free
Into war he brought two things along, a rifle and his faith
Join the ranks as a private, assigned to 338th
There on that day, Alvin York
Entered the fray
Saving the day
82nd all the way
Into the fires of hell, the Argonne, a hero to be
Entered the war from over the sea
Intervene, 1918, all the way from Tennessee
Hill 223
When his faith has been put to the test, the call to arms he heeds
On the 8th of October he went, made a sergeant for his deeds
Fearless, leading the raid of the war, machinegun on the hill
Charge the enemy taking the prisoners, by power of his will
There on that day, Sergeant York
Entered the fray
Saving the day
82nd all the way
What Sergeant York achieved that day
Would echo to the USA
It’s 82nd all the way
Death from above, what they now say
What Sergeant York achieved that day
Echoes from France to the USA
It’s 82nd All the way
Death from above, what they now say

My grandfather was a sergeant in the 82nd during WW2 he passed away earlier this year. He never talked about what he saw in Italy and behind Utah beach until he was way older. But he was so proud of his “All American men” as he called them.
Trust me, every man that wore the AA patch was/is proud of that fact. The 82nd is known for attacking and holding onto positions that are considered nearly suicidal and getting out of it with few casualties.
AA mean All American, when the 82nd was formed it was a unique for it's time regiment. Normal regiments usually were taken from a single area so everyone would be from the same state, but the 82nd took people from all across the country. The nickname stuck even though every regiment was that way by the time of WW2.
Ww2 veterans have a lot of storys to tell its sad that they are dying off but it’s best if you learn from them now and not later

I felt the need to share this, how I found my way here.
After a death in the family, my fathers great aunt passed her husbands effects from his service in WW2 with the 774th Tank Destroyers Battalion. We ended up in the care of his photographs and almost everything he brought back from Europe. We were incorrectly informed that he had a German Luger, it turned out to be a CZ24 pistol chambered in .380 most likely manufactured in 1939 or 1940, not a military stamped arm; more than likely he traded for it. During my research into this arm, I found one of your videos... a nice surprise to say the least.

The Texas Revolution (and all the others that took place against Santa Anna)

Between Argonne and [The Bulge], the 82nd has proven to be one of the most badass divisions out there.
[Edit: it has come to my attention that I was mistaken as of where the 82nd was during the Battle of the Bulge. It was an honest mistake and wasn’t meant to discredit the 101st, fellow badasses who were at Bastogne. York's battle was so badass archeologists had to dig up the remains from the Argonne forest like if it was the Trojan War. All because contemporary people didn't believe him it happened.
People didn't believe the attack of the dead battle either. Some people just have no belief.
I mean come on dude the man was tasked to silence a machine gun with 17 men (13 of which were privates) and after 9 were wounded or killed and York was then put in charged due to him having the highest rank while still being able to fight had the rest of his men watch prisoners they previously captured and then charged the machine gun nest by himself fighting against ~30 men. He was at one pointed charged by 6 men with bayonets fixed after he shot all the ammo in his M1917 Einfield so he used his M1911 pistol and killed them (the M1911 has 7 shots) and then the German commander missed all the shot he fired at Sergeant York (then a corporal) until he surrendered. Once the battle was over he and seven men came back with 132 German prisoners. This all from a man who at first tried to be exempt from the draft because he didn't want to fight and he didn't want to kill.

Alvin Cullum York (December 13, 1887 - September 2, 1964), also known as Sergeant York, was one of the most decorated United States Army soldiers of World War I. He received the Medal of Honor for leading an attack on a German machine gun nest, taking at least one machine gun, killing at least 25 enemy soldiers and capturing 132. York's Medal of Honor action occurred during the United States-led portion of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France, which was intended to breach the Hindenburg line and force the Germans to surrender. He earned decorations from several allied countries during WWI, including France, Italy and Montenegro.

Since everyone is talking about their family connections to York, I guess I will as well: Apparently, my great grandparents knew York before and after the first war (they were church buddies) my great grandfather used to tell his sons that York came back a changed man, something was missing. At the breakout of WWII, my uncle Harold I guess didn't listen, went to fight in WWII, and entered as a replacement at Rapido river, fighting alongside Murphy through Anzio and kept fighting all the way through France until his company broke through enemy lines and ended up being shelled by our own guns. He ran to grab the radio from the jeep and took a direct hit from a shell, but continued fighting, ultimately earning a bronze star & purple heart. Poor guy came back without the use of his legs and committed suicide in 1946. Before he died, he would tell everyone that there was no glory in war. Don't ever forget that, not when you're watching the war movies, listening to the recruiters, seeing new Sabaton videos, or watching the news. There is no glory in war. Young men today are no different than Harold: they hear tales of heroic glory, they serve alongside heroes, but all they ever find is death. For every York, every Murphy, there are thousands of Harolds. There is no glory in war, there is only hell.
So true, and the WWs were the ones to showcase that so well... matter of fact, I think there was a British(?) officer who wrote a letter home talking about how there was no honor or glory for the young men that fought in those trenches.
Granddaughter of a WW2 vet here. I don't... know if the praise is coming from that part of it. Not for me, at least. It's always good to be realistic, and understand what war truly means, what it does to people and places, the casualties and atrocities it spawns...
Death is a natural part of life. So is war. So is every trial in life we have to face. I think what at least I place value in was that these people did something with such good, selfless intentions. There's a purity of spirit there that inspires naturally. The human capacity for self-sacrifice is something I think we all can feel just a little more uplifted by--that humanity isn't all wholly evil.
Not saying your wrong; on the contrary. War itself is nothing but destruction and pain and violence. Just saying that maybe there's a deeper meaning behind it. A silver lining to a dark cloud. Y'know?
And bless your great grandpap. Sounded like a wise man. Hope he's resting comfortably now, at least...

I come from a long line of military officers. My great-grandfather was a POW in Germany and was on of the Camps (I don't know which, my mom never told me.) my grand-father was in Vietnam, and my father was stationed at Berlin when the Iron Curtain started to crumble. So, it brings me great joy that a band from across the pond made this song and add a new song for my playlist for writing. Thank you.
LET ME IN LET ME INNNNN
this album has so many killer songs- and by killer songs I mean they're armed with machine guns
When don't they?
Not only machine guns. They have a fucking tank!
Why settle for a mere machine gun. When you could have 460mm canons?
@@devincetee5335 a very select few of songs are armed with dinkly little liberty pistols. Only a handful, though.
@@VynalDerp So the last thing you see is the face of your killer!
Those hair-flips are majestic.
82nd Airborne (and formerly 82nd Infantry) were my heroes growing up, I joined the army because I wanted to be a part of their history; back when Iraq and Afghanistan were still going on. I never got that chance (quit during Red phase), but I still hold the All-Americans' significance in history close to my heart, and the Army values I learned in basic training.
*A Warrior, and a member of a team.*
*Always place the mission first.*
*Never accept defeat.*
*Never quit.*
*Never leave a fallen comrade.*
These segments of the crede are most important to me.

Greetings from Memphis, TN.
Thank you for writing a badass metal song about my ancestor. 👌
In 2009 I began meeting US troops as well as our Allie's it continues today I absolutely love meeting our men and women as they deploy or return last to see them first to see them. I began getting patches from them as well as coins and their badges. I created a coat to display them it's amazing. As I researched each piece of their service I began to understand what is given to keep our country free.
While researching an allied patch I met my friend Marcus. I discovered his country's service,Sweden and I'm so proud we have become friends discussing the patches he has as well as the patches I have our lives. I heard Nightwish fell in love with their music and he sent me Sabaton's music and damn I'm totally hooked on this sound!! 82nd All the Way!! Already started to research Alvin York can't wait to greet!
Thanks a lot for sharing this story with us 🤘 Keep rockin'!
The new album is perfect. Thank you guys
Too short. Needed more songs lol.
How crazy that I'm heading to Bragg 82nd tomorrow after my graduation from Airborne School. Love this!!
I live in Hope Mills (it's in Fayetteville) and my dad was in 82nd air, mad respect for you man
I live in Hope Mills (In Fayetteville). My dad was in it as well, proud of him for it. Mad respect and best of wishes to you sir.
Thanks, Sabaton, for honoring Sargeant York. He made Tennessee proud. My dad's friend's wife used to babysit his kids.
Damn, Sabaton been having some balling songs lately. Can't stop listening
Absolutely love your music. It's fills both needs as a metal head and a history nut. Keep rocking the history lessons 🤘🤘
We will! Thank you!
@@Sabaton I PASS HISTORY LESSON ‘CUZ OF YOU ALL THX
This is one of my favourite Sabaton songs, and I love the tale of Alvin York. Listening to Sabaton playing this song live at their concert in London was a dream come true!
Why does it sound (and look) like an opening to "Sabaton: The Anime"?
Maybe cause of his dance? ^^
Now I want that, that sounds like a good idea.
@@devincetee5335 Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if they'd do it.
wouldn't sabaton the anime be based off carolus rex though? I mean the rise and fall of the Swedish empire would make pretty sweet material for an anime. Also all the music is already available in sub and dub lol
@@OneTrueWindfall Carolus Rex isekai please. We all want to see what the world would be like if Sweden won.
I love how in the first line of both this and to hell and back they instantly say what state the war hero the song is about is from
"A short man from Texas" "In the draft of 1917 a man from Tennessee"
I think it is because as Americans we take great pride in being from our indivisual states.
@@carolusrex5213 mostly cause every state is its own country in both culture and sizes comparing to most countries. we're basically a working Europien union at 3x the size.
for those that may not know texas our larger state can fit 10 of the Europen countries . 3 hour drives can only go trough half of the state.while yall can pass through several countries
@@yourfavoriteheritic6441 it takes a 10 hour drive just to get through Germany...doesn't matter if north-south or east-west.
@@LLUstgBtl272 So, about halfway through Texas?
Great song. The Yorks are good folks. His grandson is a friend of mine. He has helped this county with so much. Truly seems like a good man
Sabaton is hands down the best band- badass music, incredible vocals and harmony, learning about history and heroes that not a lot of people know about. Found them by chance with Night Witches from Watch Mojo a couple years ago and since then, I've been hooked religiously
I found them as I was getting into Powerwolf, and I saw a lot of comments comparing them to Sabaton so I checked these guys out. I have rarely gone a day without listening to them since
Sabaton finally sung about Sargent York, proud to be from Tennesse! :D
@The Christian Banana Duck good for you but all I have to say
Why doesn’t Illinois have any badass
In a time when we are told to be ashamed of our European heritage there is one group that defies that and sings about our history and the people who have made it with pride.
God bless and keep rocking.
Why should somebody be ashamed of his European heritage?Europe made the planet what it is now.If not for us Americans would still sacrifice people and Africans would run away from lions.
@@minotauruskt We should not be ashamed. Is my point, but we have advanced to the point in society of over self-deprication. Where we think our ancestors were evil and are now changing history to suit more modern "delicate" sensabilities. I.E. censoring things from the past we feel would offend a "persecuted" minority. Like the Grenadier March here on YT that got removed several times, because British colonialism was evil. Again I disagree with this. As without colonialism, I and many others would not be in the US right now. And it is what it is. We make the most of what we are given. Talking about a fairy tale land in which colonialism doesn't happen is moot. Bottom line is people like to look in the mirror and change the mirror to suit themselve. Rather then use the mirror to help them see what to change or fix. Forget the past and your doomed to repeat it? Also looking at colonialism/slavery as if there were no benefits and it was all just evil, rather then grey. Is not a fair accounting of the history. People have dominated/ conquered the conquerable since the beggining of time. Slavery happened to just about everyone. Just more recently Africans. However sex slavery still happens today, which I would argue is a bigger issue that needs talked about rather then the kind of slavery that happened in the past.
When you get chills from a song...I knew a Sarge from the 82nd. Hed have loved this song. Thank you and I cant wait to see you when you come to Florida in October!!!
Can you sense the pride and the tear you shed for a man you had never met ? Alvin York ! Salute !

Too bad they were not around when I was at school. But still, Sabaton, I love you since the day I've found you ❤️🤘
As a paratrooper who served in combat with the "All Americans", this song brought back some great memories and is absolutely amazing. Thanks Sabaton

Sabaton: Yes.

Holy god, this is great, finally a song for York, and, the All American Division.
Guys from all over the world listen one thing........’The biggest honour is not Nobel price or oscar, the biggest honour is when Sabaton makes a song on you’!!!
I grew up and live where Alvin was from. God bless you for honoring our hero.
his museum is a really nice place to visit, but recently i found out about my great great grandfather who served in the philippine insurrection and ended up receiving the medal of honor. He saved a wounded man under fire from an enemy position and nearly got killed himself.

If there was an anime of this music for the opening, I would watch every single episode of that anime.
An anime about Alvin York sounds awesome
Thank you for honoring a hero from my division. I served 2 combat tours with the 82nd. All the way! Airborne!
