    A LOT of people remember Courtney McCool. And she went on to do great in NCAA gymnastics. Marta was a fool for not using McCool on uneven bars in TF instead of Carly Patterson.

    In spite of the mistake Courtney had such gorgeous lines. I loved watching her and she should have been in TF on UB, not Carly.

    @msms68 1. She placed second at the olympic trials 2. They didn't know before the olympics that her routines wouldn't score in the top 3 on any event 3. She has desirable qualities when she hits 4. The team must count four routines in prelims; her scores were helpful there 5. They need to fill 6 spots, even if one of those spots isn't used in the team final

    I don't understand why so many people cry about Courtney's performance at the Olympics. Oh my goodness, she was off balance on one skill, jeez. Her bars was incredible, vault looked fine, floor was great except for the step out of bounds. It's not like she crashed on every event, which is what I was expecting by the way so many people said she "choked" at the Olympics. Those small errors in today's gymnastics would be nothing. Simone falls off beam sometimes and still wins the all-around. Plus, Courtney's form is the best form I've ever seen in gymnastics. I think even better than Lilia Podkopayeva. Her straight line body position on her bars swings is insane!

      She was off balance past the point of a 0.1 deduction. Her mistake on floor was 0.1 out of bounds, along with another .3 for the steps after it. You surely cannot be mentioning Biles in the same breath when they both didn’t even compete during the same code. Moreover, Courtney’s connections were always questionable. Unfortunately, this was her first giant international gig and her scores were not great. More so because she was over scored all season in the US at the American Cup and Nationals/trials. It’s not a shock to me that she didn’t do amazing. Yes, she’s a technical genius but there were mistakes made that cost her. You’re also forgetting she had a mistake on her final pass on floor, too. So all these mistakes add up. And they were exactly little. Almost 0.3 on beam for a wobble and 0.4 for obvious mistakes on floor.

      @@willsbob123 I will say her floor was potentially a medal contender had she just did her second and third pass cleanly. Despite all of her mistakes on floor, she scored almost as well as Terin Humphrey whose only obvious error was the out of bound on her third pass but whose dance leaps and form on her tumbling was rife with internal deductions and not receiving credit thus affecting her start value. The American women were unlucky that the gymnasts left after camp were the ones who relied on dance bonuses to get a 9.9-10.0 SV and they couldn’t hit those dance elements completely and lost precious tenths off the SV.
      Regarding Simone, I agree with you that it’s unfair to use her errors against her because Biles competed in a totally different system that was open-ended and actually gave her credit for her insane difficulty so it encouraged her to go for it as any mistakes she could make would be offset by the D-score. Had she been under this closed system where a 0.1 off was a huge deal and was capped off at a 10.00 which someone like Ponor could achieve with two E elements and a bunch of overvalued D-level dance to C-level dance connections, Simone would have adapted and only done skills that she could do and not invite deductions.

      I would put her up there with one of the best beam workers in history. He form and patience are incredible.

      Bc she didn’t compete in the team final bc they just took her out of the whole final

      Courtney basically only competed internationally for one year. She went on to the NCAA.

      @@Anthony-lp1jnI honestly think it was one of the biggest mistakes marta made. Yes, she did have some mistakes, but not bad enough to be taken out completely. Carly also had mistakes but still went on to win the AA, so how a gymnast does one day, doesn't always determine how they'll do overall. Courtney on bars could have really helped the US in team finals

    i think this is how her routine is supposed to go.
    .1 handspring mount
    .1 front aerial
    .3 connection (meant)
    .1 onodi
    .1 sheep jump
    .2 connection (meant)
    .1 popa
    .2 triple twist
    that comes out to 1.2 bonus points which would be a 10, but they probably took away her onodi + sheep jump connection which would be a loss of .1 and her layout connected to flip flop layout layout, which be a loss of .2. that would come out to a 9.7 start value.

    yea for sure. id say a 9.9 S.V. i mean, she gave anyway MAXIMUM .1 for her form- its to perfect for any more then that! a EXTREMELY bit underrotated on her triple but she should have still gotten credit. that "major mistake" could have cost her 2-3 tenths at most. HARSH judges. still too low. courtney should have gotten more respect. she freaking won the olympic test event!

  • @uwoeric
    @uwoeric 13 років тому +1

    @481095ymg2 They gave it a 9.6 SV so something else didn't get credit. They could have not credited the Popa, downgraded the dismount, or not credited the Onodi all together if they deemed it was big enough of a deduction (thus losing the element and the CV). Out of a 9.6 SV, take 0.3 for the Onodi, 0.1 for the dismount, and maybe 0.05-0.01 for under-rotating the Popa/dismount, you're left with a score in the 9.1 range. It looks like the judges took maximum deduction for her, harsh!

    @msms68 If you mean in general, it's because they decided that she wasn't in the top three on any events (which in my opinion, she should have been used on bars; but that's a whole different debate). If you mean specifically on beam, it's because her this routine wasn't received well and scored very low in comparison to the other American beam routines (plus she messed up a bit, although I think she's great on beam).

  • @481095ymg2

    that's what i was wondering, i really didn't think it was that huge of an error

  • @matthewdecordova
    @matthewdecordova 15 років тому

    I think it started out of 10 but breaking the connection brings it down... probably 9.8. Then she made the major balance check which was at the least 3 tenths maybe more because the judges are hardcore. She had a step on the landing which was at the least one tenth. The can also take off for stupid things like the back leg not being high enough on a split jump, not enough height/amplitude on a skill and various other things that a normal viewer wouldn't recognize.

    It's sad that Marta and others didn't get her to speed up the connections on the first series. I think she always got credit for it in the U.S.
    She clearly didn't here.

    thank you...she does have incredible form but i do believe she takes a little too long on her front layout flip flop connection.

    9.112 is a bit low,
    Other than the step after the dismount and that onodi, everything else was great.

      Long pause after the front aerial and into her tumbling acrobatic series

    well, someone put in the work to figure out why she got the score she did. would she still have started out of a 10.0 if she did everything correct?

    @raspberrypavlova92 Maybe the judges lowered her SV, which I dunno what it was, because she lost the connection during the aerial front flip to an onodi, when she was fighting not to fall..maybe that's where the judges were harsh..i dunno..
