Thank you masiosare666! Much appreciated! Rockcliffe Park is the who's who of Ottawa. A very elite and socially connected neighbourhood with beautiful gorgeous homes. The Top 5 neighbours was based on popularity for access to services, walking, quality of life, access to transit and overall lifestyle. Rockliffe Park is great but certainly for a very specific portion of the public - the top 5 was more geared towards a larger audience. Cheers!

Just found your channel.
UK citizens who live in Dubai currently. Wife is a vice principle and i work in IT for a American law firm. We are due are 1st child and we are looking at Canada is our next and final place to call home. Just trying to get a feel for best areas to live that's family orientated has things to do for all and a lovely neighborhood that's welcoming. So so far just dipping our toes in and seeing what's available what jobs are available etc and what the process is to move here :D thanks for the video

Great video ! Would be helpful if also shot during the winter to show how the city will look. I am moving to Ottawa in September will be my first time there. My initial plan is to rent for a year before considering buying a property.
Absolutely. We plan to shoot in all four seasons. At first we thought "maybe not Winter - who wants to see that..." but I think it is very important to show all elements of Living in Ottawa. That's a good idea to experience the city first - although a year in Ottawa the housing prices will climb up as you get that experience. Another option might be Air BnB in various parts of the city to experience vs committing to long term lease. Just although - it all depends on your comfort level. Moving to Ottawa, check out some of the towns bordering Ottawa in all four directions. Some newer builds and more often than not more affordable and family oriented. I’m sure this man can talk about these areas as well. Good luck and welcome 😃🙋🏻♀️😊
Hi Karen. Absolutely - great value for places like Carleton Place, Almonte, Arnprior, Kemptville, etc. I use to live in Carleton Place and absolutely love Almonte.

We do not know the city enough to consider any neighborhoods. In your video I appreciated walk/bike/traffic rankings, which are a very useful benchmark (we aim to limit the use of a car). I don't know yet much about the public transport network, but it is also something that we consider essential to evaluate the quality of life in a city.
@@ffgdgdh The LRT system currently being constructed is going to have a significant impact on the city. It basically is changing us from a small city/big town to a large metro. If looking to shed the car I would suggest neighbourhoods like Glebe, Westboro, Hintonburg, Mechanicsville, Wellington West, Little Italy as these have great access to public transit, shopping, etc. and include some of the best walking the city has to offer!

Great content, currently living in the US and looking to move to Canada next year. I will continue to work for my current employer remotely, which means that I could move to any city in the world, but Ottawa definitely got my attention, especially because of the proximity to Quebec, wanting to take advantage of the opportunity for my two children (8 and 12) to learn French in school while living in a city where we can still communicate in English. That said, any recommendations for neighborhoods with great dual language program schools (English-French) ?

Thanks for reaching out Cris. There are quite a few - off the top Orleans is a great marriage between English and French - they have some strong schools and offer a nice mix to raise your children in. A lot of schools across the city also offer French immersion programs and some offering 100% French environment. Neighbourhoods such as Beacon Hill, Alta Vista, Barrhaven, Riverside South, etc. It really would be best to identify other factors as well to narrow the focus on best neighbourhoods for you and your family. There are plenty of options but depending on your budget, needs, requirements, commute we can certainly define the best fits. Stay tuned as we will continue to dig into each of the communities but have some other ideas percolating for interesting content that will help you. Best.
If language isn't an issue definitely move to Quebec City / Montreal over Ottawa. Ottawa is a terrible city. Overpriced***, boring, people are often fake and passive aggressive instead of assertive and direct. People pretend neighbors are good friends but really they're just lose acquaintances - it's kinda creepy and fake.
QC is much, much better IMO. Best thing about Ottawa is all the green spaces, but there's plenty of that in Quebec too.

Another wonderful video. How does Sandy Hill have lower average home prices despite being much closer to downtown?
Great question! Sandy Hill covers a large area and there is quite a mix of detached, semi-detached, row and condo apartments. As there is a larger variety of property types it allows for a larger inventory of lower cost properties. Best!
Can't help but notice how quickly you walked through Hintonburg in comparison to the other areas, with one strap holding your bag as well, that made me laugh although don't think it was intentional

Purely unintentional. I use to live in Hintonburg and it is a great neighbourhood. I was probably walking on a busier street and it was one of my early videos so was not super comfortable with people staring as you walk along being filmed. It’s a weird feeling.

Hi Cecile. Both great areas. A lot of rentals are in the private market and not listed on MLS.

Hello Kamel. Calgary has a lot to offer as well. It's relatively the same size but different industries. I would say Ottawa's housing market and economy is more stable then Calgary. Both offer great quality of live and great areas for raising a family. Really comes down to specifics of what you are looking for. We can certainly help if you choose either Ottawa or Calgary. Hi Karabo! Near Carleton is a tricky position - it is surrounded by great expensive neighbourhoods as well as high percentage rent areas that are more cost effective that are not as nice. It depends on what you are looking for. Can't go wrong in Glebe, Old Ottawa South (which we have a few videos on in our playlists) or Alta Vista. Others you can try is the changing area of Glebe Annex off Bronson Ave or Carlington across the Experimental Farm or even Preston area with the easy transit links to the university although I hear the transit there might be changing - so stay tuned for that. If on a budget look towards Hogs Back Area or Courtland Park. Cheers.

Hi! I moved here in 2020 and my advice is to rent month-to-month when you first arrive, to get a sense of what neighbourhood you want to live in, and also to track rent prices. Many landlords will just post signs in the window "apartment for rent", and these are generally cheaper options than the ones posted online. Rent price depends on the neighbourhood - anywhere between 1100 and 1500 will get you a decent one bedroom. I've seen two bedrooms go from anywhere between 1600-2200. If you're looking in centertown a 1-bed will be closer to 1100-1300, but Hintonburg for example is closer to 1400-1600. Not sure what you mean by the bank, but I hope this was helpful!

When I said bank , I was talking about which bank is the best or have the most Branch in the city? Doing my research , I found that RBC and Scotiabank have a good offer for a newcomers. For a mobile, someone told me fido or Koodo are cheaper. For the internet ,they told me Vidéotron is the best. what do you think? It's a lot of questions 😅 but really thank for your answer.
@@faradhnAh! I'd say the most common banks are Scotiabank, TD, RBC, and CIBC. There's not much difference between them, the only deciding factor might be if one has a promo going on for opening an account with them. That being said, most people who I know use TD but honestly i'm not sure why that's the case. Fido and Koodo are the cheaper phone plans in comparison to the more popular ones like Rogers or Bell, and I haven't heard much of Videotron - I think they're a fairly new option, likely similar to TekSavvy or CarryTel (companies who use Rogers/Bell lines but are somehow their own company? I'm not really sure how it works lol). Most people use Rogers or Bell, but again they are definitely more expensive.

Love Old Ottawa South - I use to live on Hopewell Avenue for some time.
I lived on Echo Drive & my girls both attended Hopewell Ave. School!
How is Kanata? Hows the transport system and jobs opportunities. And the supermarkets, hospitals and other transport system.
Lalit Naidu Kanata is one of the fastest growing suburbs in Canada and for good reason. Solid employment sector with Silicone Valley North along March Road as well as access to services, shopping, strong real estate values and great investment properties. Transport is on the 417 a multi-lane highway into Ottawa and the public transit is reliable. Great option for work/life balance.

Hello Eman. It is a great place. Certainly for Carleton University as the O-Train runs from Preston straight to the campus. The area provide an abundance of cafes, restaurants, biking, walking and easy transportation to downtown. There are some rentals in the area and even closer to Bronson you can also find good rental options.

Hey Kath! Thanks for the comment. Wifi is certainly a big deciding factor these days as more and more are working from home. Vaccine roll outs will play a big factor on that situation. The outlying communities and small towns outside Ottawa are certainly increasing in value as there is a ripple effect from central Ottawa. Best.

I'm going to renovate the last 1820's Stone Mason's cottage along the Rideau. Bought the cottage 10 years ago. It's paid itself off already.
Have finally gotten the certified architecture's plan approved but need good cabinetry makers, small house builders, and expert renovators. An expert stone mason or 2 would cap the lot! Do you ever deal with builders?
BTW: I have also read, "The Secret". I too believe in the power of positive thought. It's astounding what the mind can overpower.

Although locating a family doctor looking to take on new patients is not an easy task it is doable. While you are working towards that there are plenty of medical clinics (i.e. Appletree Clinic among others) that can support you till you confirm a GP (General Practitioner). There are special schools although less in numbers they offer larger catchment areas allowing a wider area of coverage for where you live and having access to support your son. Best.

Orleans is a great suburb. So much to offer all the families and professionals that live there. In fact, I have just helped two families move into the neighbourhood and we are listing one very soon. Shortly, we will be highlighting Orleans in two separate videos and will be doing specific videos for each of the neighbourhoods.

Merivale Claridge Stirling Park aint bad... build a 12 storey apartment hi-rise in a parking lot... under the Airport Flightpath??? Fan-tastic... 4 big box grocery stores walking distance plus Costco (it's a hike, my 80 year old neighbour can walk there... I say pass). curiously only 1% of residents use the gym or indoor pool??? hi-lariously funny or just sad... But when a Big Wind (derecho) blows thru Ottawa... Merivale goes dark, 10 days without power or water... 12 storey building doesn't have the water pump on the Back-up generator??? oops... also the Trash Compactor needs power? otherwise the garbage piles up in the chute (6 floors high)... big Stink? can't say... Claridge keeps trying to improve on its design / layout. ho-hum. 4 Stars out of 5.

Ottawa used to be a great place to live...not any more...too crowded and unsafe esp in downtown area..4:23...with Ottawa's icy winters, those stairs are not that safe....at 4:51, did you forget that there is a homeless shelter in less than a block from there??

I'm so sorry for Canada. Most things about a good Canada are not true, Including clean cities - beaches, and forests. It's a big lie. The first time I arrived in Vancouver in 2018, I was shocked. As soon as I left the airport door, I saw tissue, disposable glasses, and other garbage left in the city. The further I went, the more I saw them. Before I moved to Canada, I lived in Georgia, Armenia, Turkey, Serbia, The United States, and for a short time in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Netherlands, Germany, and England, but I have never seen the amount of garbage that people leave in different Canadian cities. Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec are no less than Vancouver. Canadian and Canada Governments don't care about this tragedy. I think everything that says about Canada as a clean and powerful culture is not true. You don't need to travel to Canada to see this. Just watch some videos about walking in downtown Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec. You will find the truth. Impossible for you to walk in a Canadian city and you don't see the dark side of that. Everywhere you will see garbage. You will never see this in Europe, Australia, the United States, Japan, and Korea. This amount of waste is not even seen in Malaysian, Indonesian, or Thailand cities. It is impossible for you to use public transport and not see a lot of garbage at stations or on the route. You will be surprised to find a lot of garbage even in the woods - by the rivers and on the beaches in Canada. I wish the Canadians woke up and had no enmity with their country.

You are correct - it is expensive in the Capital - high taxes and high real estate costs but it all depends on the balance you are looking for. Good quality of life, good education, safety, accessibility sometimes comes at a cost.
