Hard Courts are courts generally made from asphalt or concrete and are the most commonly available courts as they are easy to maintain. The Hard Court provides a surface where:1. the ball travels at a speed slower than on Grass Courts but faster than Clay Courts; 2. the bounce of the ball is high due to the hard surface; and 3. the bounce of the ball is very predictable as the surface is very flat and easy to maintain. The Hard Court is generally considered by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) as a good surface for all types of players as it provides a good compromise between the Grass Courts and Clay Courts and is thus termed as a “Democratic Court”, which provides players favouring various styles of play, from the Serve and Volley player to a Baseliner, thus providing an even playing field. Despite the proclamation by the ITF, experts have express opinions that the Hard Courts favour players with a good serve as the surface is still considered generally fast and base line players (players who enjoy long rallies) as the bounce of the ball is high and predictable.
Nah. Not "democratic". It has more overlap with the behaviour of grass in speed and bounce (especially after the grass blades wear off). Oh, look. There's another idiot who thinks clay doesn't require "skill" when it is the formative environment for most of the legends of the sport - Borg, Lendl, Federer, Nadal, and Wilander. It forces you to max out most skills whereas on hardcourts you could get away with just maxing out your serve and forehand.

100% agree easily the best games on clay. I wish more of the latter year events post grass were on clay it's weighted too much for hard courts. I get that hard courts are less maintenance but they are also MORE maintenance on the bodies of tennis players. Seeing how much love and skill the ground guys put into these courts would be nice to see that same effort in some of the post Wimbledon events and replace some hard court events with clay. Hell, let's turn the OZ or US Open into a clay tournament!👍.
Anywhere else in the world the guy in charge would be only be on TV with an official shirt. Up the irons! Funny that they got Pat to do the bit on clay..
Playing on lumpy ass, hard baked clay courts every day rn. Still better than hard court imo, but I cant help but be jealous and dream of such good maintenance

I think they make bricks first to removed the water content of the clay, then they crushed it to make it as 'sandy' material.
