- Sepsis 911 tells the inspirational story of sepsis survivor and quadruple amputee Sue Stull and her husband Jay. Before she became ill in August 2014, Sue was a healthy, active woman. She developed sepsis and her life changed drastically due to amputations to both of her arms below the elbows and both legs below the knees. The Sepsis 911 video is part of a Community Education Kit built to empower advocates to spread the word about sepsis in their local community.

The ambulance crew suspected this Christmas and got me to the hospital quickly. I am very happy that the right call was made. It is vital that proper information is given out because it saves lives.
This is so horrifying, yet preventable. I just overcame sepsis pneumonia and hopefully, I can go home tomorrow.
I hope you've recovered from sepsis and your lfie is back to normal. Yes, sepsis is totally preventable if diagnosed early, but every hour it is undiagnosed and untreated your mortality rate increases 8%. The doctors said if we had delayed 2 hours Sue wouldn't have made it. Best wishes

The places that need education on sepsis which nearly killed me are nursing homes. These places need to learn to listen to us and watch any infections we get make sure they don't ignore our symptoms. I nearly died of sepsis caused by a simple uti left untreated here in Toronto, Ontario

It’s a lot like that in the US too. People in nursing homes get ignored.
UTIs are the 2nd leading cause of sepsis at 25%...leading cause of sepsis is pneumonia at 35%.
People should stop taking medicines. All the asortment of drugs that you're made to believe will keep you alive are actually what's damaging your organs.
We are made up of cells and water. We just need to keep our cells healthy..we need to power our cells by feeding it with healthy food and health supplements. Our cells get damaged and die all the time. But if we can keep feeding them with what they need, they multiply and self repair our organs...we get rejuvenated..we live healthier and longer.
Sepsis survivor after motor bike crash in Jan 6 2019 nearly died twice then they cut a huge piece of flesh out of my back & my butt & I'm still recovering now.

My girlfriend of 9 years passed away 2 weeks ago from this. I believe it started with a foot infection. Then came a fever that went away after a day, then her stomach started hurting. She had liver disease as well, so I thought maybe that was creeping back up after a few years. We even discussed it possibly being a kidney infection or stones. She was extremely stubborn about going to the hospital, we share that quality.
All hell broke loose after about a week of the initial symptoms, and I found her on the floor. She was rushed to the hospital where she had 2 strokes on each side of her brain as well as a heart attack. They had her on 3 different blood pressure medications as well as life support for 3 days. It started affecting her kidneys, but they could not perform dialysis because they couldn't take her off the blood pressure medication. She was unconscious the whole time and they could not wake her up. Her condition stayed the same for a couple more days, then she started to decline, and we pulled her off life support.
I knew nothing of sepsis, and feel like I failed her. I would have done whatever it took to get her to the hospital if I knew how fast it would have happened.
I will say she tried to get antibiotics from a local clinic, but they told her they felt like it was something else going on, which is why I suspected her liver disease making another round. I believe her existing liver disease compromised her immune system, and is why her body could not fight properly.

Sorry for your loss Diva. For a very long time, I blamed myself for not knowing about sepsis, doing more, etc. Unfortunately, we have to trust doctors and if you get a bad ER doctor than bad outcomes happen. Very sorry, why would someone be stubborn about going to the hospital? They don`t torture you there, with something more serious than a running nose go to the doctor, and see 2-3 of them to have the confirmed diagnosis, if they tell you you are panicking - that`s OK. (though they might be wrong as well), otherwise you`ll catch something serious...Maybe it depends on the country, here in Russia we have free medical care or even if you pay for the doctor it`s not very expensive, at least in an emergency, so why not to see a doctor when you can..
This illness is scary as hell, due to the illness resembling other illnesses!
Yes and no. It does resemble other illnesses, particularly the flu, but if the doctors and nurses do their job and identify it early than treatment and a positive outcome are exponentially higher. This is also why sepsis protocols should be mandated at every ER, ICU, stand alone clinic, etc. Sepsis should be at the top of the differential diagnosis and not at the bottom...in other words, rule it out right away rather than rule it in at the end
I got sepsis when i had kidney cancer. I was on broard spectrum antibiotics and went for surgery to remove the infected kidney. I was in ICU for 3 days and went home in another 3 days.
Its been 9 yrs now.

In 2000, I got Sepsis from tonsillitis. My G.P admitted me due to liw B/P and Tachycardia. Because I was a Paramedic, he thought I had exposure to something bad. First thing done was blood drawn for cultures and IV broad spectrum antibiotics. Labs came back and sepsis diagnosis made. I was on dopamine for 24 hrs at kidney dose. I survived due to a 70 yr old G.P. and his early suspicion.

My mom passed away in the hospital from sepsis but she got it there.
Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI) can be dangerous. True story, several years ago we were on a telecon with the CDC and a host of other people and organizations when a doctor from the CDC discussed HAIs. He was so damn proud they had reduced HAIs by some percent (forget the exact number) but skimmed over the fact that HAIs were still OVER the CDCs goal. I called him out on this on the telecon but received no support from anyone else, so we stopped participating in this "project" after one telecon.

Sepsi almost killed me in 2014 I suffered a right sided stroke that affected my left side I didn't lose any limbs thankfully
Last August I was diagnosed with Sepsis . I had an appointment with my surgeon to discuss surgery for Breast cancer.. My Port a cath was bothering me. Just a short few minutes later I was in the emergency room with high fever (104). My heart was.pounding and I was in severe pain... I crashed the 1st night.. I was having trouble breathing O2 SATs were 70 and I had congested heart failure. failure..I was in the hospital for 2 weeks on IV antibiotics. I went home with another 2 weeks with IV antibiotics.. my blood count was 7 and as a result of sepsis I lost most of my kidney function for the rest of my life.. I had to under go a thoranstis. I'm lucky I'm alive
I’ve had severe sepsis once and early sepsis twice. I was in the hospital with severe sepsis for a month plus renal failure. The other 2 was for 5 days each. I have CVID so my chances of sepsis is higher. All of my sepsis was from home. My husband found me just in time and I woke up in the ICU

Thank you! Sue has been amazing and there is little she can't do. From your handle, I guess you're a nurse. We love nurses as I believe they helped save her life...doctors, while there are some good ones, too many bad ones and they stick up for each other no matter how bad they screw up. IMO, doctors should put their egos aside and listen to the nurses a little more. Cheers
I agree I stayed he's a hero. Those like me w zero support or understanding its millions worse I currently feel very alone and am deeply sad the person I know I am is gone

This mimics my experience with sepsis. Thankfully I ended up in ER where I worked. The dr there was a friend and knew me and argued with my personal dr who didn’t want to admit me to hospital. 2 weeks later I went home on IV antibiotics for 3 months. 2 year recovery

@@claudjarodnez I have some lingering unsteadiness when walking otherwise ok. I am a nurse and was working when COVID began. My dr contacted me and told me quit working and stay home as my immunity had been weaken due to sepsis.

2017 sepsis survivor caused by Necrotizing fasciitis. So glad I found Sepsis Alliance. Had I known that I was as sick as I was, I might have been able to get the treatment I needed earlier and not had as much damage from the NF.

When I was in preschool, a kid kept biting me. My mom fussed at the teacher for letting it happen.. but it KEPT HAPPENING. I Came home one day sick as no other. I got a fever above 100! I almost died. I was sooooooooooooo close!!!!!!! Lord has a plan for me!♡ I do have memory issues and other issues. That affect sepsis survivors. My teeth are all messed up too from all of it and all of the meds I was put on.. I wanna sue soooooo bad but dont know if I can! It's not my fault my mother didnt sue. It MY BODY!
Jessica Heck I wanted to sue because of the disgusting treatment when I had it severely but I couldn’t even spk about my experience and if you’re in the uk you only have 3 yrs. Also it’s so difficult to prove medical negligence but I do feel for you.🙏🥺
I am a sepsis servivor and I don’t remember anything about it except what family had told me I lost my ability. To walk I went though a lot like everyone hear did I now can only walk 100 feet at a time I also have diabetes and COPD with other issues I’m in a nursing home now in long term

I felt sick severe vomiting diareah cold chills i couldnt get up off the bathroom floor...i was in icu for 3 days...never found out what caused it after all tests were clear. I nearly died. I was swollen and had a rash and very pale with very low bp.. rapid onset that got worse.

I lost both my legs - left aka and right bka - and both started with a tiny pin-prick underneath my feet. Ten years apart. Both the legs were removed piece by piece - first the tones, then the feet, then the ankles, etc., etc. In the second instance I told the Emergency Room what I think the problem was -- they did NOT believe me. The 2nd time I nearly died. Be very, very careful ! The doctors treated me for infection and eventually for gangrene. I was in hospital 5.5 months the first time and three months the second time.The hospital, later when I was in ICU, called my family twice saying I am "non-responsive" but a young doctor grabbed the gurney and raced me from section to section for tests. He saved my live, but I am of course, wheelchair bound forever.

I had sepsis in oct 2017 from mrsa was on a ventilator, my toes turned blue, i had kidney failure and was on dialysis for 3 months. Im crying watching this, its bringing back everything that happened to me.
Jill Amoroso wow....I’m still crying after watching this. When I finally awoke in hospital I already had tears running down my face. It’s like it broke down all my defences and all I could do was cry. I feel for anyone who went through this but I hope you realise that if you’ve had it once you’re more at risk of getting it again. I’m not saying that to scare you - I’m attempting to warn you as forewarned is forearmed so you’ll be aware of it.🙏🥺

I was so so lucky, I was given within an hour fluids, antibiotics, and a nausea med Phenergan. However, I had a rare reaction to the Phenergan. I woke up in Critical Care. My Sepsis was caused by a virus and I had the complications from the Phenergan low BP. The firemen who saved me said they no longer carry Phenergan or use it as they had experienced too many severe reactions.
There but for the grace of God go I. Last year I had necrotizing fasciitis, forners gangrene and was in septic shock. They said one more day I would have lost my leg. I lost my entire left labia and that was all. It started in my left gland bet my anus and vagina as a bump. The day I noticed it I thought oh just an infected hair. That night it became so painful I couldn't sleep tho that was all I wanted to do. The next morning it was so much worse with incredible pain. I called 911 and an ambulance took me to Centerpoint medical center in independence mo. Luckily they recognized I was in septic shock and gangrenous. I went into emergency surgery and had two more before they got all the gangrene. I was left with an open 4 inch deep incision from the top left of my pubic bone to even with the gland I mentioned before. Then three week later I was moved to a nursing home for skilled nursing services where I remained for two and a half months. I never knew how sick I was until I was released. Crazy. Sue is absolutely amazing! Over the years, we've went skydiving, rode the rapids in OKC, rode the Terradactyl in Colorado, smaller roller coasters, and lived our life. She cooks, cleans, vacuums, makes dinner, and even learned to put in her contacts using her residual limb. Sometimes her independence drives me crazy lol

My 93 year old mother just died from sepsis. She was a resident of a nursing home which failed to investigate her urinary complaints in a timely manner.
The nursing staff just kept taking her blood pressure and telling her she was fine.
My mother called my sister and said that she felt like she was dying.
My sister went to the nursing home and called 911.
Mother died in the hospital two days later.

I had sepsis due to walking pneumonia caused by streptococcus pneumoniae. I felt 100% okay at 6 AM, at 7 AM I was in some amazing back pain, then at 10 AM had a headache and whenever I coughed I could taste something weird in my mouth. 3 doctors listened to my chest with a stethoscope and heard nothing. Finally the x-ray at the infectious diseases ward (I was ferried 3 days after) showed half of the left lung completely blocked.
The infectious disease doctors are the ones who saved me. Mine, however, was caused by antibiotic resistant staphylococcus aureus.

I got sepsis last september 2017 and I never in my life ever heard of it and it damaged my heart valve and had to have heart operation to get that fixed and I had pnumonia as well and they didnt think I would live cause they had to give me the heart surgery while I had the pnumonia and while on the anti biotic for the sepsis. I lived though but still having a few health gliches but I am still alive.

What an amazing lady, such a fighter. I think the huge wall that needs to be smashed is the patients first port of call the General Practitioner as they are the ones that say it's just a bug or a virus you will be fine in a few days.. in my 3 sepsis bouts the hospitals were amazing before I got to hospital the Dr had said it's just a virus.. Problem is sepsis is like other illnesses.
@katjapeeters8311 The first ER doctor FAILED to do his job and didn't pay attention to my wife's symptoms. If he had actually listened to her and evaluated her vitals, he would have ordered a blood test and administered fluids. The blood test most likely would have shown a high WBC, high creatinine and lactic acid, all of which scream sepsis.

I was in septic shock last year. My mom was told I’d die within the hour at the time they took me back for surgery. I had to have 3 surgeries to fix a bowel perforation and dead tissue in my abdomen, a 4th one within a month, and a 5th one two months ago last Friday. I finally had no more questions as to whether or not my GI issues were Crohn’s disease. Not only did I get diagnosed but found out I have a severe case. It attacked my nervous system. It attacked my vascular system, and my circulatory system. I was projected to never walk again without assistance, if at all. Somehow I was walking with a walker 4 days after I woke up from the coma. I was walking short distances without it two weeks after getting out of the hospital. I heal incredibly fast for having an autoimmune disorder. I was afraid my husband would leave me, too, as I had a temporary ileostomy (recently reversed) and I couldn’t even use a pen without him holding my hand. I still have issues to this day, though. It damaged my bones and teeth. I’m getting a bunch of preventative dental work next week. I have no ability to fight off bacterial infections without antibiotics. I’d often have symptoms of strep or a sinus infection for one or two days, and then be fine. Not now. A sinus infection sent me to the hospital and ate through my skin, to a nerve in my tooth, because I waited two days to see a doctor (it was the weekend). I’ll be getting surgery to repair that soon. I’m always in pain, but I was in pain before. It’s worse now sometimes, but different. I still have trouble with my hands deciding not to work sometimes. It sucks because I’m a hair stylist and make up artist used to doing extreme and glam looks for weddings, events, performance art, and photo shoots. My legs work but they hurt often. Just out of nowhere. I was extremely athletic before this. I also have a scar the length of my abdomen, and several smaller scars from drains and other procedures. I know it often takes about two years to fully heal from sepsis, but we don’t know what that will look like. I was the worst case the emergency surgery team had seen. I was septic for almost 3 days, and bowel related sepsis progresses fast. However I was one of the most rapidly recovering patients they have seen. I had more than exceeded expectations one month after my 4th surgery, so nobody really knows what to expect. Today I walked about half a mile. I’m in a lot of pain from it but I did it somehow. It’s sad to me that that’s an accomplishment but it’s a relief I am able to walk. My husband stayed with me. He never even considered leaving. He is a type 1 brittle diabetic and I’ve saved his like a few times as well. Not like this though. I’m so proud of this woman for her fight. I’m glad she is adjusting. Don’t think for a second she doesn’t have hard days where she hates that this happened. Tv never shows those days, but she is still fighting through those. I’m so glad she is raising awareness. I had heard the term but I thought it was what happened when you got bit by a brown recluse (though I guess it could happen with that? I thought it was the reaction though).
I'm a master cosmetologist I tore my bicep 3 shoulder surgeries later, I thought I had stomach flu. When I was delivered to ER my liver and kidneys were shut down. I got antibiotics 8 days in, I will never be who I was. I was told nothing, just I lived it's a miracle. However, dealing with everything PSS left me with the depression is unbearable at times
The first time my temp was 104. Went to er they sent me to the side where I saw nurse practitioner..she wanted to admit me but they didnt listen to her...she did blood cultures and called me the next morning for me to get to er..
I recently get recover from a severe sepsis, and i ve never Heard of it before, it was a nightmare i though i was dying we should also talk about psychological effect of the sepsis for me it was a real trauma its been 25dzys that i get out from hospital but i still having nightmares and panic attack when i remember these days
Before this, my wife never wanted the TV on in bed, at all. It took over 7 years before she was comfortable not having the TV on at night, until all hours of the morning (I'm talking 3, 4, 5 AM). The psychological effects can be very traumatizing. There is so much they (doctors/medical community) don't tell you about sepsis, it's frustrating to say the least. When my wife was discharged from the hospital, the attending physician couldn't tell us what to expect because he never had someone as sick survive.
I was a serve case as I thought I had stomach flu I'm 8 years out still have night terrors insomnia ptsd depression anxiety I'm in pain my organs are shot however the emotional toll continues to drag me down

My 47 yr old brother passed on October 12 2018 from sepsis. He went to 2 doctors who said he had the flu

I was failed because for 3 days in icu after 5 at home organs shut down before I arrived I hv all my limbs however I'm not here not all of me. So hard because noone understands you are the definition of a man your wife is blessed
I never heard of sepsis, even the doctors here didn't mentioned it. My grandma can't eat or drink.
She rushed into hospital because of (abdominal pain) bowel obstruction. 1st Exploratory Laparotomy operation they just removed what's inside of the intestines. 13th day after operation her stomach grows again like a pregnant. They repeat the Exploratory Laparotomy for the 2nd time. This time they put 2 eggs-like drainage w/ a tube from below waist line (left & right) and anesthesia pad at her back. From April 9, I noticed the symptoms like low urine output, breathing problems, fast heart beats & high temperature. The doctors mentioned only UTI. They didn't educate us about sepsis and how dangerous it is. Until Sunday morning, April 14, 2019. There are some poop from the surgery wound and from the drainage. The doctors didn't act to prevent the situation from getting worse (like bringing her to ICU).
Instead, they are more focused on our hospital bills that is already more than 1 Million pesos. They transferred her to a public hospital. The emergency case remains untreated for 8 hours!!! 2 AM the Exploratory Laparotomy repeated for the 3rd time. 10:09 AM April 15 she passed away that broke our hearts because I think she can survive sepsis if diagnosed & treated earlier. 💔💔💔💔

I was at home for two days with a broken phone. I took my dogs antibiotics and gave myself solumedrol with a blunt needle.
My dad had open heart surgery 16 yrs ago and got septic in the bowels and died

My mother died from this as well. They did not find this out in time She went into a coma just after 14 hours after becoming sick with a fever of 104 and while in the hospital for 6 days,. She ended up having around 8 strokes and 3 heart attacks befoe succumbing to death.
Virtually everyone who dies of sepsis is because of cardiac arrest (heart attack). The reason being is the body is so weak, blood pressure drops, so the heart has to work overtime to ty and pump blood. Inevitably, the heart gives out. Just curious, did your mother's death certificate anything about sepsis or was it cardiac arrest? Sorry to hear about your mother.
I’ve now had it 7 times and twice were severe sepsis, renal failure double pneumonia went in to sceptic shock and had two separate life saving Ops in which I cudnt be put under general as I wouldn’t survive so I was awake with morphine as a pain relief which they knew didn’t work. I was in the most unbelievable pain as they cut in to my neck and cut away infected tissue while I was awake. I nearly lost my life and lost my job because of this.
There are no two ppl who get the same symptoms - the only similarities are the sore throat - my advice is to put a heat pack on as that’s what drew out the poison or whatever it was.
I have pre-existing health problems which cause me chronic yet sometimes acute pain...I have Ehlers - Danlos Syndrome (a combo of type 2 and type 3) SLE, Fibromyalgia, I already have low blood pressure etc so what the woman in this video is describing - I already suffer the excruciating pain and now, due to the sepsis, I have osteoarthritis and instead of my extremities (hands/feet) going gangrene it went in to my brain causing necrosis in some of my brain cells and due to that I now have a learning disability and despite having an Honors Degree in Law ive been unable to read a book since then. I wasn’t given a % of survival....I was just told that I could die any minute. I wasn’t fed or given fluids for 3 days as typically a sepsis patient passes on the 3rd day. I went in at 11stone 3oz and came out looking like a lollipop on legs at 9stone 8oz which I haven’t seen since I was about 16yrs.
I now suffer from Sepsis Survivor Disorder, I cry over nothing, I’m down all the time, it feels like I’m locked in my own little world. I also have Severe PTSD but no one can help. My life is literally a misery with very little quality of life. I’m always checking my temp as too low or too high can both be indicative of sepsis and do not mistake Septicaemia for Sepsis - they’re not the same. Sepsis is definitely a killer.
I can’t lie and say it’s made me want to go out and make a difference....we’ll it has made me want to make the most of each day but with all the health issues I’ve got it’s not possible for me and sepsis does mimic other illnesses/conditions so I wouldn’t know if it was creeping up on me again. All I know is that I’ve little to no quality of life but someone must be watching over me so I try to make the most of each day....
Even if it’s just going live and trying to help others because there’s little more I can do 🤷♀️🥺

Sorry to hear that. I suspect I have EDS as well, with low blood pressure. People with EDS seem more susceptible to many issues.
One of the doctors on the fire department told me and medical school they say get the patient out of the hospital is a lot of diseases easy to get septice and then go into septic shock my dad got it from the hospital but they will never admit it
How could one get it from hospital stay ?
@@myyoutubechannel3161 They actually have a term for it, HAIs...hospital acquired infections. Any infection can cause someone to go septic and the hospital is ripe with bacteria, etc.

I have had sepsis 2 times
I had ahit chillin in my gut for like a qeek I was alright kinda
I had covid at Christmas I had a water infection and my lungs hurt so I was given antibiotics the lung infection cleared up early February I had a blood test done for my blood pressure meds. They sent me to pharmacy a couldn't give a water sample as I'm incontinant they told me to go back to doctor couldn't get an appointment so rang for advice. They gave me an appointment at hospital next day I felt bad my body hurt my kidney hurt and I'd been having intermittent low tummy pain.they gave me antibiotics last night I was hot then later I was shivering badly couldn't get warm. Today 3 pills in.i hurt all over and feel sticky should I get back in touch with gp?.I'm scared iv never felt so poorly

Should patients get hyperbaric treatment, too????
Most hospitals don't have hyperbaric chambers so that probably won't be an option. I asked about that early on but Sue was too critical to transport to a hospital with a hyperbaric chamber. If the hospital has one, it may be beneficial but there aren't any studies to my knowledge that show a direct correlation with hyperbaric treatment and improved sepsis outcomes

I know 2 people who had sepsis and 1 is dead. My uncle - they took his legs off but he died anyway.

Doctors refuse to us e the S word...I don't understand it, but the death certificate should have had sepsis on it. This happens all the time which is why no one knows about sepsis. The 3 symptoms you mentioned Sue presented at the first ER visit and the doctor did nothing! Sorry to hear about your father...a true Warrior

Approximately 8.5%-10%of cancer patients actually die from sepsis
so why not to treat anything serious as sepsis? If it is very common and hard to treat, why not to assume the worse?
The Million Dollar Question! Far too many ER doctors don't have sepsis anywhere on their diagnosis checklist and just skim over people's symptoms. We had a HORRIBLE ER doctor who tested for strep and when that was negative (which I told him it would be) he said Sue had a virus. He FAILED to consider her low blood pressure, high heart rate, excruciating pain (she said it felt like a Mack truck had run over her), low urine output, dehydration and fevers over the previous 24 hours. I had no clue about sepsis and no medical background, so we believed what he said. This is why we did the video to try and educate others because the government, medical community and media refuses to do so. Also, sepsis is a cash cow for the hospitals as sepsis accounts for $27 BILLION in the ICUs...considering 18.6% of US hospitals (as of a few years ago so it may have changed) are for-profit hospitals and they have no incentive to diagnose and treat sepsis in a timely manner. I’m confused. Why keep the limbs at all after they start to turn black??? Wouldn’t they make the infection worse or at the very least keep it around longer. I would think it best to get those infectious limbs out of the patients body!!
The doctors wanted to wait to see if the limbs, or a portion of the limbs, could be saved. Also, we had to delay the amputations until Sue was strong enough to survive the surgeries. Her kidneys, lungs and liver had all failed and she had a heart attack, so her body was extremely weak. We kept a close eye on her white blood cell count as her limbs making the infection worse was a definite concern.
The hospital sent me home to die from sepsis because doctors cant find the bacteria causing it.
Alkaline structure silver can make a big diference fighting the infection in any sepsis case. People just do not know about it

That is a really cruel blame game to put on any sick person. You really have some nerve quoting Bible blame here.
So in this case the septicemia was caused by the inflamed throat. Many times, us Eastern Europeans get a sore throat if we drink a lot of cold water with ice or eat a lot of ice cream and the sore throat leads to infection and the untreated infection leads to other medical problems. And you Americans should give up the habit of drinking all kinds of drinks with ice given the fact that you have a lot of cases of septicemia.
This had absolutely nothing to do with drinking cold drinks, eating ice, or an inflamed throat. One of the symptoms was a sore throat, but other symptoms included chills, fever, and total body pain. On the first ER visit, my wife rated the pain a 9 out of 10, had a high heart rate, low blood pressure, plus the other symptoms previously identified (she was afebrile at the ER but had a temp of 102.1 within the previous 24 hrs). The 2nd ER visit they started antibiotics before drawing a blood culture, so they were NEVER able to determine the cause of the infection. Please don't speculate on something you know absolutely nothing about
