The Homebrew Jar of Destiny: Round #9 Beer Style Challenge
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- The final beers from the 2023 Jar of Destiny picks have been brewed and tasted already. Now. we move on to make our picks for the first part of 2024.
I won't reveal here what the picks are but I'll give some clues:
Both are lager beers.
Mike's pick is making a craft beer resurgence.
John's pick poses a technical challenge.
Thanks for sticking with us through 2023!
Cheers!

Cheers!
Was a great 2023.
Looking forward to 2024.
I do have an ice pick If you're in need😂
Thanks Curt. I may need that ice pick - ha. - John
Happy New Year Dudes! John, maybe a trip to Kulmbach would be in order for field research. As always, thanks for the video.
Happy new year! Yeah, let me see if I can work a trip into the Brew Dudes budget. Nope, getting a nope on that one. Next time - brew on!!
I would love to see some brew day footage of the recipes.
Yeah, I think some footage of the Eisbock are in order. - John
Fermentis S-23 and MJ Bohemian are good dry yeast options for czech lagers and dopplelbock
Thank you for the yeast suggestion!!
Great picks from the Jar of Destiny.👍😎The Eisbock process is fascinating! Czech dark lager intrigues me most because of the lower abv % and a long-time fascination with U Fleků in Prague, along with a recent obsession with brewing lagers, particularly Schwarzbier. My understanding is the U Fleků recipe has changed with every new brew master but the basic idea is the same. I'm a fan of Notch Brewing from afar. Haven't tasted their beers, yet.🥸Love their whole philosophy. Happy New Year Dudes. Brew on! 🍺🍻
Thanks Skid - if you ever make it to this part of the world, definitely make Notch a destination. SO worth it. - John
@@BrewDudes I can only imagine! Cheers
Cheers guys. Looking forward to the next year. 🎉
Cheers!
My buddy does an Eisbock. He uses my 1-gallon jugs of empty distilled water and freezes the Doppelbock beer after fermentation is complete in his chest freezer. He has made an Eisbock the last 4 years running. He has found through trial and error that the frozen draining's net approx. 4-gallons for a 5-gallon recipe. Just wanted to pass that info along. Maybe it will be helpful in your endeavor.
THANKS! I will take any tip I can get. - John
Two cracking beer styles coming up shortly by the sounds of things
Yes indeed - thanks and BREW ON!
Happy New Year's Dudes!!!!! It's been fun watching the JOD
Thank you!
Looking forward to hearing how the Eisbock turns out! Happy New Year, guys. 🎉🍻
Yeah, me too. - John
I sure hope you will double decoct the Czech lager Mike.
I will tell him - John
I would have put the Ice Bock back in the jar and drawn a different one.
It crossed the mind but this is the season to brew one. - John
We have a bot in our homebrew club to basically do this and give us a random BJCP style to brew. I, too, got Eisbock. I said fuck that and brewed a doppelbock instead since that's supposedly the base beer. Good luck!
Ha - don't upset the bot! - John
Dead serious, I have several pounds of extra dark munich malt from riverbend malt. Super malty and a bit of fruit. Would be perfect for that czech dark. I doubt I’ll have occasion to use it all while it’s still fresh. Lmk if interested. 🤙🏼
Ok - email us at dudes at brew-dudes.com. Can Venmo you for the shipping if you are not going to brew with it.
You both may as well double decoct while youre at it
Might as well. Let's go for it!
