    Well done & well organized. I am new to trying this and your vid was the most clear and concise AND fully listed all the exact ingredients AND showed how much the 60 ib bag would make (alot of vids just seem to assume you know everything) . I feel alot more confident about going into this- thank you!

    PLEASE USE A FACE MASK WITH DRY CEMENT! You do not want to inhale dry cement. It is very bad for your lungs. On a positive note: thank you for showing the mix you used and giving thorough instructions.

    Concrete would of been more suitable for stepping stones. It’s a lot stronger than mortar. Mortar is used to bind bricks or cinder blocks together. It’s kinda like a glue. Concrete is used for sidewalks driveways etc. The stepping stones came out nice!

    Great tutorial, thanks! I didn't know I needed mortar mix specifically.
    I'm going to try this with my boys, and maybe put plastic wrap over it so they can do handprints safely and then just peel the plastic off. Even if it doesn't work, we can just smooth it out and try something else!

    I noticed you didnt add any latex additive. Quickcrete is meant to have additive added to it. Without it- it has little adhesive in it to keep your design pieces in place. The stone will eventually crack into pieces if walked on. For best results - add it into the water before you mix it into the cement. Up to 50% of liquid added can be additive. MUST USE GLOVES! wash any you get on skin off and rinse with vinegar to stop chemical burn thats happening to your skin even after removing with soap and water.

      You can use wire inside the concrete. We used hardware cloth wire and our stepping stones have lasted 8 years so far and going strong.

    Love it! What type of paint and sealer did you use?

    • @jamieskelton2622
      @jamieskelton2622  6 років тому +2

      Michelle Belle thanks! 😊
      I used regular craft paint (Folk Art I think) but I used an outdoor sealer over it.
      If you use a sealer, consider apply it with a brush only over painted areas or if you spray it, use a glossy sealer so it won't dull the shine of the glass pieces.
      The sealer definitely needs to be reapplied each year or so, depending on many factors.

    I made some stepping stones in a plastic mold that I wiped with vegetable oil. After they were removed from the mold there were dark areas on the stones, I am thinking it is from the oil but don't know. Have you ever had this happen?

    • @jamieskelton2622
      @jamieskelton2622  4 роки тому

      Sorry it took awhile to reply.. my internet has been terrible since the pandemic has forced so many online at home. I’m glad you tried the stepping stones! I haven’t experienced the darkening. Has it lightened any? I would think with time/weather, it would. Sometimes defects just add to the character and beauty of these things! 😊

    • @beccam1007
      @beccam1007 4 роки тому

      @@jamieskelton2622 the darkening seems permanent. If painting the stones it's fine but shows if leaving unpainted

    great tutorial. i just tried this but i think the mix was not as wet as yours. can i "fix" this when i put the sealer on? and what brand did you use? very confusing to find online and really expensive for a large amount. i'm sure i don't need that much. thanks so much!

    • @jamieskelton2622
      @jamieskelton2622  3 роки тому

      Sorry for so long to reply.. I’m afraid I can’t be of help. I’m not sure if or how that could be fixed. 🤔 What did you end up doing? On a positive note, so much of my crafting is experimental 😆... I always have fun learning what does/doesn’t work.

    Did you use mortar mix because it's easier to work with than concrete because of the lack of rocks?

    • @jamieskelton2622
      @jamieskelton2622  4 роки тому +1

      Sorry it took me awhile to reply.. my internet service hasn’t been so good since COVID. My husband worked in concrete for several years so o asked him what he thought would be best and the mortar mix is what he suggested and yes it was easy to work with. It’s been several years and they’ve all held up good. 😊

    Can I use thinset instead of cement for this

    • @jamieskelton2622
      @jamieskelton2622  4 роки тому

      Vidia Ramheerai I’m sorry it took so long to reply. My internet has been bad with the pandemic. It was already weak since I live in a rural area! 😄 I had to ask my husband your question- he said he thinks the stepping stones need strength from aggregate, so he’s not sure thinset would work. But he added that it could possibly be fine. I find that so many of the things I’ve done have been experiments. That’s mostly how I’ve learned. I say go for it and see what happens. 😊

    Why can't you use your hands? I was thinking of doing hand prints in mine. Thanks.

    • @jamieskelton2622
      @jamieskelton2622  5 років тому +2

      Stacy Wieds from what I understand it’s corrosive and could really irritate your skin. My boys hands were fine just handling it for a short period of time, but their hands aren’t very sensitive at all. Maybe quick hand prints would be fine.. you have to use your best judgement there. You could try disposable gloves maybe. I just wanted to be sure to share the warning that it isn’t considered to safe to handle with bare hands. 😊 Best of luck to you!

      @@jamieskelton2622 Maybe put a thick layer of Vaseline on the hands and wash immediately would not be much exposure to the concrete.

    • @bethanythompson2600

      Or do a plaster of Paris mold of the hands then Vaseline that and set into concrete until dried would leave a better impression??? Just an idea
