Our pipeline guys use heavy duty winches on steep grades. Heavy enough to pull the machine with tracks and only use the arm following for safety. Way faster than using the chains
I've seen stuff like this in the NC Mtns, A place called Maggie Valley was the first time I seen something similar, they had a Gehl with a auger and a post driver, they had a giant hyster winch on a good size wheeloader (skid mount on forks),that's how they did the entire project over the bank, alot like this, steep enough to not be able to walk up it without help from a cable or rope.....
We are in a situation almost exactly the same, we have to lower a 6-ton excavator down a hill that's about 50ft long and the slope is about the same. if you had to do this again what would you do differently
Thanks for watching and your comment. I would just be very careful. It was a pretty dangerous situation. Someone had commented. I should’ve rented a tow truck with a large cable that would probably have been smart as well. Good luck with your project.
I did like having tracks on the ground on the top of the hill, as well as a blade to keep it from being pulled down the hill, so that’s why I went with the Track Hoe
RAE Actually he’s a pretty good operator just has not had very much seat time in the past few years just getting back into the heavy equipment on my crew 👍😎
I slowly lowered myself down the hill with a chain tied to another excavator up top. Reason for going down as I drove all the pilings in on the hillside as I went down. 👍
Just another day where real men get the job done, armchair experts chime in nonsense, WCB paper pushers push more paper and the homeowner likely complains at the cost.
This was my thought exactly. On a slope nearly identical I put my boom uphill outstretched low to the ground with my blade behind me hovering a few inches above the ground and my excavator just climbs. The machine will climb steeper slopes than I am willing to discover as long as the soil isn't loose.
you guys should have NEVER attempted this operation without using a winch. it would have been worth it to have called a tow truck with a winch rather than to have taken the "life-threatening" chances you did with this goofy operation. how much would a winch truck been worth if this chain broke and the mini-excavator and operator went rolling down the hill killing the guy on the machine? and one other thing, if one of the neighbors had seen this or were mad at your company and they called OSHA for an emergency inspection - OSHA would have bankrupted your company with the astronomical fine they would have assessed.
@@ChunkyPepperoni No, i'm not an OSHA employee, however, I have dealt with OSHA. Y'all definitely ain't no hill crew ... Hah ... Glad u got it up
Yep not too many hills down here in Florida but we made it work 💪
Good job, even in the rain. I kniw it’s even harder than it looks. Rubber tracks / rain😀
If that chain ever snaps... but you did it 🔨
Thanks Bill yeah that was a concern I got a pretty heavy duty case harden one and thank God it didn’t !!👍🤜
Jeez I’ve had some bad situations on steep hillsides but man you guys are lucky that came up out of there!

qbensister I agree with you if that something I have to do a lot I probably would definitely do that not a whole lot of hills in Florida thank God!!👍
Way safer too. Chain links are like bullets when they snap... And guess who they're aimed at? Should be using slings
Have to trust that winch your life

BIG BIG BALLS !!!!!!!!! Good job
Gravity always makes life interesting.
True 😎
The lack of it would definitely make life more interesting though :D
Take care brother ❤❤
Thanks
Hi. I wonder why the excavator on top wants to keep the rope up. With his boom up. This way he’s losing his pulling capacity.
Thanks for watching my page. I would probably call that operator and experience.
👍🏻👌
i was straining on that one,,,was the orange operator a armature?
RAE Actually he’s a pretty good operator just has not had very much seat time in the past few years just getting back into the heavy equipment on my crew 👍😎
armature amateur....lol...you guys did good
RAE thanks 😊

good way to starve the engine from oil
Better hurry up! Still need to fuel it before you return it to the rental yard.
All of my equipment is owned
I hope your vibratory hammer survived
qbensister yep did good The isolators on that hammer are pretty tough.
Turn that puppy around and walk up hill with your weight to the advantage
