    FILM DESCRIPTION:
Miss Mona (Dolly Parton) runs the Chicken Ranch, a brothel with a long history in a small Texas town. The locals have a good relationship with the institution, and Mona is respected in the community. The sheriff, Ed Earl Dodd (Burt Reynolds), also looks out for the Chicken Ranch due to his past with Miss Mona. However, when pious reporter Melvin Thorpe (Dom DeLuise) exposes the brothel, outside interests want it shut down, putting the governor (Charles Durning) in a tough spot.

For those now hearing Dolly sing it for the first time, please be aware that this is only part of the full song that she originally recorded back in 1974. For the sake of this scene, it was cut short but it's really worth listening to the full original recording.

And yet, when Dolly sings the song she wrote, it just clutches your heart, it brings a tear. There is no substitute for the genuine emotion she brings to the song she composed. To those who linger onto any love, always remember it's always a gain in life, never a loss, to love someone. Those moments when you spend your time with someone are golden minutes, rays of sunshine, that make you forget you're alone.

I am an old Southern Lady. Dolly wrote that song to Porter Wagner. Dolly was on his show . I remember it being shown in Alabama. Dolly was leaving Porter Wagner’s show. Dolly knew what to do. But, Porter Wagner gave Dolly her start. If y’all ever want to think Southern People are stupid, shame on y’all. This is Dolly’s song to Porter Wagner.when Whitney Houston sang this song in the movie, please remember that Elvis wanted to buy the rights to the song. But Dolly said NO. This I’m your song, young people please remember that there are people trailing the path for you.

Why did she sell it to whitney and not elvis? Whitney's movie offer more money? Seems a southern woman would want to sell it to a fellow southern man...but hey, dolly isn't rich af for no reason.

Dolly didn't refuse Elvis, she loved him too. She refused Colonel Tom Parker who wanted the rights to the song, and she wouldn't do it. She would have done it for Elvis, who wouldn't have asked for the rights, just the right to record it and perform it. They had a talk about this and Elvis even apologized and explained and said he would have loved to have done it. They both agreed that he would have done amazing at it had it have worked out.

Bittersweet memories, that's all I am taking with me. Goodbye. Please don't cry. We both know that I'm not what you need, but I will always love you. I will always love you

Whitney's version is good but the original is better. Dolly's version really hits you. The Whitney version was also overplayed. You heard every 30 minutes on the radio. This version you don't hear enough of.

Madame Corgi you will find elvis management wanted to get this song and for elvis to record it but dolly said a big fat no because she would lose I think half the rights to the song. Dolly wrote over 3000 songs and that’s a history fact folks not just talk
