thanks dude. It's nice to know that i'm not the only one with fine motor skills left on the planet. Oddly, fine motor skills make a pain in the arse job kind of fun. Personally my memory is cactus so I photograph everything now. Yes, I can see now that the zoom lenses are a series of tubes within tubes, with lens elements at both or either ends usually. That explains the short physical length relative to focal length. And yes, lens coatings.. thankyou for reminding me. My first lens will be a Sun 300mm zoom lens from 1976 so I doubt it's coated, but will proceed with water and wipes wherever possible to be sure. Thanks for the great video :)

If you dropped it the lens will most likely be out of line if you can't manually focus the lens to a clear image. If you can then you would have to open it up and check for internal damage. Of the gears and motor which isn't something you would be able to fix yourself and then its a case of deciding is it worth sending off for repair or just bite the bullet and get a new one. Hope this helps and good luck with it.

I have a issue. When ever the aperture changes when the less is zoomed out, the optics jumps. I have a 17:70mm 2.8... What exactly should I look after opening the lens?

most camera SLR and Dslr lens come apart in much the same way as in the video above. The main problem your going to a is that it's been in salt water. I would take it apart clean and dry it all out you'll probably need to re grease the bearings as the salt water with have acted like a degrease. The main issue you will have is the the auto focus probably never work again and depending on how long it has been left from the point of been dropped in the sea they may be a high level of salt damage inside. I hope you can get it sorted. what lens was it

Can I use ethyl alcohol to clean the lens? This won't affect the coating? Btw, what microphone did you use for this video?

Hi. I would avoid anything too strong. I just normally a micro cloth If I have to use a wipe you can get some for your local camera store pretty cheep. Oh and my mic is a Rode video pro.

Survive The Apocalypse Thanks, i'll go for the wipe to be in the safe side (i'm pretty sure that the liquid absorbed in the wipes are ethyl ethanol though). The audio quality is great :)
