The truth will set you free
An important aspect of any belief is for it to be falsifiable. For example, when we pray about the church, if we feel something then that means the church is true. However when we pray and don’t feel anything, then response is to continue praying until you do. That’s an example of a non-falsifiable belief.
Regarding the conversation about knowing; the BoM is pretty clear that you CAN know. In Alma 32:34 it says, "34 And now, behold, is your knowledge perfect? Yea, your knowledge is perfect in that thing, and your faith is dormant; and this because you know, for ye know that the word hath swelled your souls, and ye also know that it hath sprouted up, that your understanding doth begin to be enlightened, and your mind doth begin to expand." Faith becomes dormant the moment you experience a witness of the spirit. Your knowledge becomes perfect "in that thing." When people say "I know the BoM, church, Joseph Smith, etc is true," it's not a "church culture thing." They're speaking from that place (or should be) of having received a witness of the Holy Ghost. In other words, their "knowledge is perfect in that thing." Just wanted to set the record straight on that point.
Love this conversation! As an older adult convert, I'm always bugged when I see kids going up to the stand and saying, "I know the church is true." No, you don't! Please don't teach your kids to bear false witness!! Some of them never get over it.
The good news for me is that I do know this church is led by Jesus Christ, and I can testify that God shows Pres. Russell M. Nelson things that the rest of us can't see and that he teaches truth, and that learning and applying the principles taught in the Book of Mormon has brought me closer to God than any book I've read.
@John..everyone has to find out for their own anyway. Children know the church is true like they know they love their parents. What would you teach them to say? I think maybe the church is true, maybe Joseph Smith is a prophet? Children copy what their parents say.
@dwRS1 I'm sure my perspective is colored right now by a Facebook post yesterday by another returned missionary announcing that, "oh, nevermind, I'm actually an atheist and don't believe anything I taught people for those two years, but thanks for the free Spanish lessons!" How is it that we set up a large number of our children to be faithful and happy in Primary but apostate by the time their brains are fully formed? How much better would it be if a child went up and shared their testimony of feeling happy when they come to church and when they pray with their family. That's a truth they can share.
For me, I do KNOW the Book of Mormon is true. Why? I was a former member of another religion. A preacher's daughter who is a sister to three current preachers. I was told the Book of Mormon was from Satan. So, I read it to prove it was from Satan. The Holy Spirit confirmed to me it was from God, not Satan. So, when I share my testimony of it being true; I'm saying it is truly from God, the words in it are from God, and it is true because God is true. By default, the Church is the one and only True Church on Earth because it is what it states it is: the Church of Jesus Christ. I actually do know it! I can't deny it and if I can copy Joseph Smith's words, God knows I know it, and I can not deny it. Been an active member since I have been baptized. Still the only member in my family who is a member and active. My family may think I am insane, but I can't deny what God told me via the Spirit. Hence, this is why I know. There are a lot of other things I don't know, but these things I do. I enjoyed this very much and came at a timely manner. I hope it helps my children who are questioning the faith.

Yes, it is absolutely possible to find truth, but not in the mixture of teachings and practices that compromise with darkness and lead people away from the true light. According to the Bible and the Torah, the truth is found in the Word of God, in Jesus Christ, who is the embodiment of truth. As it says in John 14:6, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
The Bible warns us against mixing darkness with light, as seen in 2 Corinthians 6:14-15: "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?" This is a clear command from God to avoid blending the truth of His Word with false teachings, practices like witchcraft, or idolatry, which have infiltrated many religious and political movements today.
Just as the Torah repeatedly calls us to holiness and separation from false gods and unclean practices (Deuteronomy 13:1-5), we must remain vigilant against deception. The prophets in the Bible, such as Elijah, stood firmly against the spirit of Jezebel and false prophets who led people into mixture (1 Kings 18). This same spirit tries to deceive today by combining elements of truth with lies, leading people away from the pure worship of the God of Israel.
The truth can only be found in God’s Word, free from the mixture of false prophecies, occult practices, and worldly influences. As Deuteronomy 6:4-5 declares, "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." It is through total devotion to Him alone-without compromise-that we find the truth.
So, to answer your question, yes, you can find truth, but it must come from Jesus Christ, the Bible, and a heart fully surrendered to God. Repent from anything that mixes God’s truth with darkness and seek the Lord with a sincere heart, for He promises in Jeremiah 29:13, "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

I enjoyed this video! I loved what you guys had to say about baring testimony of the church and the Book of Mormon. I have to disagree with some of the points made about truth towards the end though. If you think about it, it’s not even up for debate whether people have different truths. There are of course some things that everyone can agree are true: the sky is blue, 2+2=4, etc. But when it comes to religion, there are hundreds of different religions out there, many of which believe they have the truth. If there was one singular religious truth that was evident to everyone, most people would believe it in the same way most people believe gravity is real. Some people believe in God, some don’t, some believe in the Buddha or the Hindu pantheon, its just the way things are. And you can call it their “truth” because they hold onto it just as strongly as you do with your religious beliefs. This is just the reality of the world.
I know that I kind of stand alone in this particular viewpoint, but I don't believe that we have absolute truths in this life. I do believe that God is a source of absolute truth, but I don't believe that this absolute truth is attainable by anyone in this earthly experience. There is an article by Dr. Julia Shaw called "I'm a Scientist and I Don't Believe in Facts" that played a huge role in helping me develop my own personal theology.
Definitely not alone there.

What is truth? Whatever answer is given, it would be based on 3 epistemological presuppositions: (1) any truth claim can be justified by the foundation of an absolute truth text, such as the Bible (conservatism); (2) all truth claims have their foundation in rationalism and experience (liberalism); (3) all truth claims have no unchallengeable foundation; rather they are influenced by our traditions, culture, and hermeneutics (postmodernism/post-liberalism).
Maybe the question is “who is Truth?”Truth is Jesus Christ😁 had a great institute class in this!😊
