Here is my case for the Tigers. First, they have one of the richest traditions in all the majors. They have legends like Ty Cobb, AL Kaline, Alan Trammel, Pudge Rodriguez, and the amazing radio voice of Ernie Harwell. Comerica Park is a large beautiful park that sits in the downtown neighborhood of Detroit. Bronze Statues of the all time greats pose the outside of the outfield. Detroit is currently in a Renaissance and is rebuilding. Detroit is home to GM, Ford, and Crysler. Detroit was known as the Arsenal of Democracy for supplying the US and her Allies during WWII. Detroit is home to motown music, Detroit Style Coney Dogs, Detroit Style Pizza, amazing arabic food, Big Sean, Madonna, and Emienem. The team is rebuilding from the death of their long time owner Mike Illitch owner of Little Cesar's Pizza. The young team has some great talent that is developing in the minor leagues looking for their dreams in the bigs. Lastly the Old English D is a beautiful and timeless logo that is great to look at.
Phillies has the best atmosphere and an easy plane ride from London but Detroit has nice people, close to Canada and have the Ford Museum in Dearborn (suburban town outside Detroit). Their stadium is nice too. The Mets and Phillies are rival's. Our cities are really close to each other and both our fans are loud and obnoxious. San Diego is the complete opposite. Haha Hope you and your family are doing well!
I would like to visit the ford museum! there is a ford collection at their plant in Dagenham near where I grew up, but I think it's only open by invitation or special occasions. I do like the sound of loud & obnoxious fans :-)
I was last in Detroit and caught a ballgame Tigers v my Phillies. We went to the Ford Museum and it was so large that it should’ve had its own zip code! I don’t know about the other thing you’re talking about but I’m sure there’s tours (these corporations will do anything for an extra Buck haha). Motown museum was great too! It’s not really a walkable city, so be prepared to Uber everywhere. Loud and obnoxious is the nicest description of a Philadelphia sports fan… we hear way worse about our fan base! 😬
Things are getting heated haha. I know who I would choose out of the four at the end. Arizona in the first matchup. And the Brewers in the second. My favorite team (Texas Rangers) is in the same state and division with the Astros so they are the evil giants, since they've been so dominant for so long.
Theres only one the cubs, one of the original ball teams, how many teams are referenced in both the Simpsons and family guy and many tv shows and movies??
If you’re looking for expected winners this year: Dodgers, ASTROS, Padres, Yankees, Cardinals, Phillies, Guardians. Mariners are underdogs for how long they went without a playoff birth. Now they’ve never been to the World Series and have great potential. Detroit is among one of the lowest ranked teams in strength and depth. Mets are always losers in the playoffs but have a owner that loves them and spends out the wazoo.
Do you think that Great Britain automatically qualifying for the 2026 World Baseball Classic will lead to actual British people trying to make the team and improve the quality of baseball played over there?
I really hope so, but I think in reality it will take a long time. If it was shown on one of the bigger channels in the UK that would probably help a lot as well. I guess it's also about children having the opportunity to play the game to develop the talent for the future but Baseball has tough competition when soccer dominates so much in the UK especially in kids teams, pretty much every small town has a football/soccer club, most towns also have a rugby and cricket clubs. For example, I live essentially in the middle of no-where in rural Norfolk and there are four football clubs with active youth teams within 8 miles of me (if only I liked soccer...!) and many, many more across the county, approx 40,000 as opposed to under 50 baseball clubs in the UK!

Also, Rockies have an amazing ballpark!! The fans are really knowledgeable and friendly.
The Detroit Tigers are among the oldest teams. They were founded in 1894 and joined the American League in 1901.
Astros all the way
Let’s go Mets!!! #LGM

The Braves too.

@Cricket Explained didn't realise the BBC were covering it, great to hear they are.
Rockies over cubs??? You got to be kidding.
