Our body acts as one side of a capacitor plate (Other plate is Ground or Earth) and our power lines radiate alternating magnetic field and that induces a sine wave voltage potential on our body that is picked up by your 4 darlington trangistor circuit. the induced voltage can not deliver power but just enough power to be detected. Any big conductor (To be size of a body and should not be grounded) can be detected

this circut will work only at earth but not in space. our body picks up voltage from power lines and your circut detects it. it also works at animals if you are at home.

I saw some of the Honeywell Electronic Art in their magazine ads in the 60s, most of which was nonfunctional. This Art is apparently functional, which begs two questions: 1) What does it do? 2) How does it work?
What is the purpose of R9? I am right in assuming you picked the value experimentally so that the base voltage for Q5 is somewhere in the range where the dimming effect on the LED is observable?
How can you increase the distance of the sensitivity of this proximity sensor. How can you concentrate the directionality of the sensor. Thano you. I gather that higher rated transistors,batteries and resistors would do the trick. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

And why can this scheme be useful in life, in practice? And how does it measure? Only by the glow of an LED? Maybe then you need to cut the voltmeter on the little ones? Yes. You add 100mf capacitor. The capacitor will filter AC spikes.
