Evidence that Vitamin D Supplementation Could Reduce Risk of Influenza and COVID-19 Infections and Deaths
    www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/12/4/988
To reduce the risk of infection,
it is recommended that people at risk of influenza and/or COVID-19,
consider taking 10,000 IU/d of vitamin D3 for a few weeks to rapidly raise 25(OH)D concentrations,
    followed by 5000 IU/d.
The goal should be to raise 25(OH)D concentrations above 40-60 ng/mL (100-150 nmol/L).
For treatment of people who become infected with COVID-19, higher vitamin D3 doses might be useful.
Vitamin D deficiency is relatively common
Especially among the elderly, the obese, and patients with comorbidities including hypertension, diabetes, COPD, and CKD
    Vitamin D induces
    Production of antiviral peptides (defensins),
    especially in the respiratory epithelium
    Vitamin D upregulates anti-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-10 (IL-10),
and downregulates pro-inflammatory cytokines including IL-1, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor alfa
Vitamin D effects angiotensin-converting enzyme axis,
which has a protective effect against ARDS
Efficacy of activated vitamin D supplementation in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)
1-hydroxy-vitamin D was prescribed on day 1 or 2 (median duration 8 days)
To evaluate the effect of 1-hydroxy-vitamin D,
on the prevention of severe disease and mortality,
    in patients hospitalized for COVID-19.
Retrospective study, April 2021 and October 2021
    Primarily Delta variant
    Hospitalised 312 patients with COVID-19
Between July 2022 and September 2022
    Primarily Omicron variant
Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels measured at admission
    1-hydroxy-vitamin D was prescribed
    Primary composite endpoints
    Need for additional respiratory support
Need for high-flow oxygen therapy or invasive mechanical ventilation
    In-hospital mortality rate.
    Experimental group
    (n = 122)
    Given 1-hydroxy-vitamin D
    Median age, 66
    Baseline vitamin D deficient, 77%
    Control group ( n = 190)
    Median age, 58
    Age difference (p = 0.06)
    Baseline vitamin D deficient, 65%
    Baseline D deficiency
    (p = 0.07)
(defined as serum 25(OH)D level less than 20 ng/mL)
Proportion of those requiring more respiratory support and in-hospital mortality
    Vit D group, 6%
    Control group,14%
    (p = 0.01)
    After propensity score matching
(to reduce bias caused by confounding variables)
    (P = 0.03 log-rank test)
Proportion of patients who received high flow oxygen
    Vit D group 4%
    Control group, 11% (P = 0.04)
    In-hospital mortality
    Vit D group, 3%
    Control group, 5% (P = 0.3).
    Need for additional respiratory support
    Vit D group, 6%
    Control group, 14% (P = 0.01)
    Conclusions
1-hydroxy-vitamin treatment may improve outcomes in hospitalized patients with COVID- 19,
reducing composite outcomes including the need for additional respiratory support and in-hospital mortality.

Anecdotally, I worked at Walmart during COVID. I was on immunosuppressants due to MS. I was also prescribed vitamin d due to a deficiency. I did not get COVID, was not vaccinated and worked at a major retailer open to the public during the pandemic. I attribute my resiliency to the high doses of vitamin d.

Dr. Cole is A hero. Came across this lecture to committee in the Idaho legislature the beginning of the pandemic. Right after the vaccines came out. It was mostly about vitamin D. He was the first guy to say “there’s not a flu season there’s a low vitamin D season“.
Now a lot of people are saying that.
Someone asked him about vaccines being safe in pregnancy. At this point they were new. He did not say anything negative about the vaccine but noted that a friend of his had a still birth seven months pregnant right after taking the vaccine.
He knows a lot more now. He is in persecuted every witch way board complaints etc. decrease business for his pathology company but he has flown around the world a little sleep giving lectures to anyone that wants to learn about Covid. One of the few in the United States and the only one I know of that can stain on autopsy for spike proteins and differentiate between the spike proteins from Covid and that from the vaccine.

A few years ago my husband I decided to test our vitamin D levels and found that they were below average, even though we get plenty of sun since we live in Italy. We used supplements, but were getting slow results. Later on we had a genetic test which found that our CDX2 receptor for vitamin D was defective which explained why. Since then we have increased out vitamin D intake (+ vitamin K2, thank you Dr. John) and our levels are now in the higher range. We are 76 and 78 years old, alert, active and well!

I never heard of that receptor. I imagine it's hereditary, too. I'm half Italian, and my D is always below normal or normal but in the low end of the range. Maybe I should get tested. I've upped my D to 4400 a day and hope it helps. How much did you have to take, if I may ask.
P.S. No doctor ever told me to take K2 with the D3, but since finding that out on my own I now take both.

Definitely need more long term studies before I'd be willing to recommend higher doses...plus more research into actual effects on seasonal affective disorder, as at this point there's limited evidence at best that vitamin D can treat it.

Magnesium is an essential mineral and is critical in hundreds of processes in the body, especially hormonal balance, of which vitamin D is also a critical component.
Most of the population of North America is deficient in magnesium. Our soils are not rich in it, and petrochemical agriculture inhibits magnesium uptake in plants. This is how glyphosate kills weeds. It does so through inhibiting mineral uptake.

There is no " Flu Season " , there is a " Lack of Sun Season " it's called Fall and Winter. I found this out years ago when I started working the midnight shift for years with no sun. I used to get the Flu shot every year and would randomly get the flu, but once I had my blood checked for low Vit D and if was verified that it was low, I started taking Vit D3 at 8000 IU's every day. My levels are right in the middle of the good reading's. I no longer get sick and I don't take the flu shot anymore. I never took the covid shot's either and never came down with it. This is all with 0 sun exposure and just taking daily Vit D3.

This shows the power of summer sun to keep us healthy.
With Covid it is important to take supplements say from October to April or so.
I take cod liver oil and buy a litre bottle which lasts at least one year at a cost of 28 then 36 euros.
Compare to a vaccine at over 100 euros cost to government.

I live in Japan (Tokyo) & I'm surprised to hear vit D levels were low in Japan. There is a much higher intake of fish (i.e. salmon, herring & sardines) with high vit D levels in Japan than in western countries. That being said, Japan's COVID mortality rates were much better overall. I suspect the diet played into it. Thanks to Dr. Campbell, I started following his channel in 2020 & listened to his advice on vit D. I (unfortunately) got 4 jabs - I'm type-1 diabetic & there was lots of fear-mongering about risk levels for diabetics during the pandemic ... (thanks Pfizer, Moderna & CDC!). However, I've been on minimum 5000 IU intake & have yet to get COVID. So thank you SO VERY MUCH Dr. Campbell for your pragmatic, well-informed & ethically-driven advice throughout all of this. Actually Finland and Scandinavian countries eat a lot of vitamin D in their diet (herring especially aswell as other fish) and even have other food (milk, I think) fortified with it.
I'm Scottish and love salmon, herring, oily fish and seafood. There's a lot of it found in the North Sea and rivers here.
Sadly, Scots don't eat enough of it (they should, especially in winter) and the corrupt (allegedly) SNP Government didn't mention it never mind encourage eating it during the last few years and still don't.

My level of vitamin D was about 55 ng/ml (140 nMol/l) a year ago. After an infection in my lungs, it dropped to 37 (92). It took me about four months to get back to 56 (140). Once or twice, I asked a lab to check for vitamin D myself (it cost between 15-20 euros, not that high). What struck me, the level dropped quite dramatically in the few weeks the infection lasted.

All through the pandemic working as an ER doctor I checked vitamin D levels and every patient I saw they came in and had a positive Covid test they were somewhat ill or older. I checked the level and all the people that I was getting the hospitalist service to admit. I think I admitted about three or 400 people in that first 2 1/2 years till Delta finally petered out. I only saw two people with normal levels. Everyone else’s level was low. Hundreds of people. I gave everybody 5000 units of vitamin D while in the ER but I don’t know if the hospitalist or infectious disease doctors ever continued it in those patients. I am skeptical of that. It doesn’t seem to be taken very seriously in America.
Ironically I got a fairly severe Covid case myself and had to be hospitalized with stroke symptoms confusion severe gastroenteritis in spite of being on 5000 units of vitamin D all through the pandemic. I never got my level checked. If I did I would’ve probably doubled up on my vitamin D and wouldn’t have had that severe illness.
Everyone find the doctor understands vitamin D and will check your levels and counsel you on what to do.
It works better if you use the D3 that has also got K2.

Started increasing my Vit D3 in 2020. Based upon info on Dr Campbell's channel. Supported by other channels. Began with abt 34 ng/ml level. Varied my daily intake. Based upon various sources; Vit D appears safe up to 100 ng/ml. Recommended optimal levels varied from 40 to 80 ng/ml. In late 2022, my level was abt 70. Going to get it chkd again. My current dose is 6,000 IU/day. I am older white male, not obese, with no known comorbidities. Living near Southern border of Canada.
During Covid I attempted to advise over 20 ppl and couples abt Vit D importance. Virtually no one showed any interest beyond polite impatient listening. Surprising to me how little interest there was.

If the autoimmune disorder is one with granulomas (such a sarcoidosis) then Vit D tricky. Granulomas will create d 1,25 the converted form of D in the body. This means the dietary D, sun exposure, etc., needs to be kept to a minimum to protect the body from creating too much of the d 1,25, which when too high causes calcium to dump from the bones. This causes osteoporosis, as well as a danger to the brain with a blood calcium level that is too high. Very important to know if a person has a granuloma disease when testing for dietary Vit D levels. A low level is a body's protective measure from the calcium dump.

Just get people to start taking it, it will surely improve the overall health of a population.

I've been testing my blood levels for 17 years. We cannot trust government or health officials with our health. Prevention and natural health modalities are vital. For example 60-70% of cancer is preventable. It's higher for heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Even dementia is linked to metabolic syndrome (too high carb intake/insulin resistance).

Thank you so much, Dr C! I incurred a Jones fracture and an ankle break in my right foot in 2019; perhaps that was a blessing in disguise, because my D3 levels were measured. Although they were found to be in "normal" range, I was advised to take 10,000 IU daily for bone healing. After copious reading in reliable med sources, once my bones healed, I dropped this to 5,000 IU daily, and then added K2 (per your advice, thank you very much!) Where I live, there's a lot of sunshine, but I like most folks, don't go out for long periods in the intense heat and humidity of summer days. Even 15 minutes is an ordeal. From further reading, I learned that the sun has to be above a certain angle for UV-A to cause the human body to produce D (see National Library of Medicine article entitled "Sunlight and Vitamin D" by Messrs Wacker and Holick, published in 2013). So supplementation seems to be a good idea for most of us!

The second Molderna poke set me on a huge flare up though that I haven't recovered from. I watched the vaxed all around me get sick while I while it didn't get me. Thank you Dr. Campbell, I've never had a flu.. ever! But was required to take a flu shot in order to be employed as an administrator at a local hospital. I did finally take the Covid jab and truly regret falling for it. I had to have a major spinal surgery.. 18 levels, plus 2 osteotomies.. I was told my vitamin D levels were too high.. I've forgotten the actual numbers.. seems like I was poorly advised.. perhaps my high levels were always protecting me. Love your work .

There is no reason to think that extra high levels offer extra protection. Some is good does not mean that more is better.

Several years ago I heard a Dr who lived in Florida say how surprised he was when his Vit d level came in low. He started taking Vit D3. He was athletic and tanned, so he obviously spent active time in the sun. Since hearing that, I take D3 supplements regardless of my time in the sun.

We also need adequate magnesium through diet or supps to be able to absorb the D properly, according to Dr Berg. Could be the tanned outdoors guy hadn't enough magnesium in his diet. Raw sunflower seeds are a great source of this.

I found out years ago from a Greek tramdriver: whenever you first feel that slight tickle in the throat, immediately gargle with strong salty water fir a few minutes - 3-5 mins, say. That usually knocks out any infection pronto before it gets a foothold. If you don't like a heaped teaspoon of salt, try dilute tea tree oil. Works even better.

I started using Vitamin D+K2 in February 2016 and started off with 10.000 i.U. and later on switched to 20.000 i. U. Since that time I never had again a respiratory infection of any kind.
The price for it via internet was 20€ for 180 tablets. Investing 40€ a year for my health is worth doing. Before I did that I had at least twice a year a cold leading to slime in my bronchial system as well.
