These ‘montage episodes’ are brilliant, especially for when travelling! I look forward to seeing some of the earlier episodes being put together in the same way.
I don’t understand why they don’t have more pop-up tent structures to protect them from rain. They’re not that expensive and several can be stowed in the back of a car. Scraping away wearing a heavy coat, in the pouring rain, Kneeling in the mud.
I think of all the episodes done in Scotland, the one on Mull was my favorite. Mick was so in his element with that one, like a kid in a candy shop. Sad it didn't make it in this Top 3. Applecross I always thought was one of the Team's physically toughest sites, thin topsoil over stones everywhere, and often appalling weather. They really soldiered on for that one.
I’m amazed at the versatility of the Roman soldiers of that era, their capabilities to overcome every situation that they came up against blows me away. They definitely surpass the soldier’s of today.
My duty station in Edzell, Scotland was at a latitude closer to the Arctic Circle than Adak, Alaska. [N.B.: the Gulf Stream warms it up a bit. Makes it wet, too.]
I've been watching your episodes and videos for some time now, fascinating. One of my favorite things that Time Team adds is illustration. I really love the style of your illustrator(s) and wish I could know who they are.
When i was stationed at RAF Edzell, the untested legend-speak was that a Roman military hospital was sited on the same property as the hospital at Stracathro. Is your annex an infirmary? Has TimeTeam dug a vitrified fortress? There's a couple close by there: The Brown & The White Caterthuns. :) Wha hey.
The archaeologists had regular jobs, many in universities and major museums etc. The three day weekend seemed to work well for them to be at the same place at the same time.
Habitation of caves is impractical and dangerous. They are dark, slippery when wet, with low ceilings which can easily crack a head open. The damp environment doesn't allow for food storage. Entering and exiting with little or no illumination poses a huge life risk every time one takes a leak outdoors. The air quality in caves can be terrible, but these appear to be pretty well ventilated. Fires or hearths make the air polluted and toxic, perhaps to the point of killing all occupants. Very temporary shelter is about their only potential. I wish archaeologists would stop with the immediate assumption of occupation because occupation is the exception to the rule rather than the rule itself.
All caves are not created equal, some have good ventilation and headspace, where do you come up with this? Any kind of shelter in those times was taken advantage of.
Love TT but strongly dislike the nature of the ads that accompany each programme - FOUR and all for gambling at the outset of this one. It's not right.
The ads you see are related to the content you personally watch, follow or subscribe to already, as well as whatever personal details are in the system. No other person will be seeing the same ads as you or in the same order. Funniest one I ever heard of was a guy complaining his ads were always for porn and haemorrhoid cream!! Haha Busted!!
Looking at Pict Monifieth #1, my best laymans guess would be the two circles represent the sun and moon, with the staff separating night from day. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/5a/Monifieth1_rear.jpg/800px-Monifieth1_rear.jpg

Nothing beats a classic, never knew anything about Picts people until I saw this years ago. Love from 🇺🇸
It always tickles me when Tony say " We are going to have our work cut out for us" hhahahah

Great to see these together, but your best and most important Scottish dig was undoubtably on Mull at Baliscate.

"If there is a summer here" you'd think they were in the Arctic the way they go on, just look how verdant the place is!

Thanks
I can't get over how young Matt is in this program. He looks like a teenager.
Is there any program as beloved as Time Team??
28:30 "You see, ya got these big stones here, and they're in a nice line and they're all packed up against one a-nudder." Phil Harding 😁

‘Kevin’ the pict…..who would have thought it possible!
Scotland !
It’s a shame that a full explanation as to the workings and use for the Broch has been lost to time. 33:06
My favorite Scottish digs were Orkney and Mull, neither of which made it into this compilation.
Why would the picts drive a car in the cave and set it on fire?? We’re the cold??
3 in an hour.
Phew!
Who even needs geo-phys when you’ve literally got Mick on site?
greatest scottish dig? Skye, not only added to the history books, but rewrote them
I must look it up thx
I quite agree...Orkney? I
People More practical than hermits are pointed at as having lived in this cave.
21:34 they could also be steps ....
What better way for MY ancient Scottish ancesters to use up all that loose stone called Scotland but build A Broch. Usefull effort methinks
Why is it just 3 days??????
The archaeologists had regular jobs, many in universities and major museums etc. The three day weekend seemed to work well for them to be at the same place at the same time.
1st ‘Scottish’ dig is actually Pictish.
You dont have to wonderwhat my ancesters used space between the walls for. THEY HID THEIR WHISKY THERE of course cheers
Let's just leen our spades and equipment against the 500 year old rock engravings.
it will be 200 years before the water rises
👍🇸🇪❤️

God damn pesky archaeologists doing their jobs.
@@themadplotter exactly, they’re always digging up the past

Caves are great. Damp yes but you'd feel incredibly safe compared to being left out in the open for wild animals to tear you to pieces.
Everybody wants their own cave...
Rising water levels? Where?
Why is the coastline so far out...I mean, what about global warming?

Receding waters? Rising waters? LOL. Alarmist comments don’t help
If only everyone believed in boobs.🤔
