Travel Nightmares Continue at Airports Nationwide

- About 19,000 flights were canceled or delayed across the nation during what shaped up to be a chaotic traveling weekend. It left thousands of people stranded. Airport hotels were quickly sold out, forcing many travelers to sleep on the floor in airport terminals. In Charlotte, North Carolina, one woman even reportedly had a heart attack rushing to make her flight after a gate change. Now, frustrated airline passengers are taking to social media to vent.
I was one of the lucky ones where both of my flights were fine and I got to my destinations early. Good luck to anyone traveling and please be patient with the staff at the airports. Flight attendants don't get paid until the plane takes off so they work for free during delays.
They’re flight attendants. Not stand around the airport attendants.
I’m traveling Wednesday
@Mona DeLeon Getem!
If they think I feel bad for them after vacationing .. yeah right. Pointless to put them on the news, only one that I felt bad for was the lady with the baby
I don’t listen advice from people who haven’t experienced what they advising you for.
Please try not to put your frustrations out on airline employees just doing their job and need to abide to things beyond their control...e.g. weather, federal/state mandates, busy times during summer and prime vacation times.
Yeah get mad at Democrats.
Some of the Airline workers put a lotta of hard work into their jobs.
Yes and on top of that we get assigned mando overtime consecutively because of these situations, the passengers aren't the only ones suffering from these tough times.
Blame democrats then for there dumb policies you see the video lack of staff is dumb but thanks to Biden this is happening you fool
yeah get mad at humanity
As a gate agent for Frontier I’ve had to deal with cancellations and delays just be mindful of us because we aren’t at fault for what’s going on in the industry.
@@joejacko1587 we don’t put you on another airline, we only rebook or refund. But yeah they should’ve been people there to assist you with a solution. I had to stay until 2am on my latest cancellation finding hotels for passengers to stay at that had a shuttle running that late and that isn’t part of my job. So there is bad apples everywhere
But what is going on with the industry? Lol they didn’t say 😔
@@indigomornings3096 its all the employees who got laid off because of covid, they either found other jobs during covid to make ends meet or just refuse to come back because of how they were treated. and its not just the airline industry thats affected by the dark years its food, travel, entertainment. everyone moved on and well now were here.
i just got hired to work at an airline. after seeing, hearing , dealing with people, i quit on day one. turns out there was arould 30 other people that did the same within the last few weeks.
hell yeah, we gotta normalize quitting on the first day when you already know you'll go for your second job choice
Why did you quit? What did the customers do to you?
What were you doing in the job?
why stress your life on a job that you deserve. There's a lot of job there that people can understand you. Go find
The airline industry needs a major overhaul, thank God I don’t fly around much!
We were trapped in the Atlanta Airport during the 93 blizzard for 2 days. We slept in the airport. I really feel for these people.
@Kevin T there’s obvious things wrong with sleeping in the airport. It’s a public space, not a hotel.
that would legit be a freezing, & bizarre experience if i was just trapped inside a airport in the winter tbqh.
@@andy_t6349 obviously there is nothing wrong with it because people have to do it all the time lmao
thank you for making me feel young again. wasn’t born to know that snow storm. had one in the midwest when i was like 8 though
oh boo hoo hoo. go tell your story of woe to a homeless person...se how much sympathy you get.
treating the employees like trash will only encourage more to quit, which makes the problem worse. but thickheaded passengers cannot understand that and will continue to immaturely take their frustrations out on helpless airline workers and then wonder why the problem is getting worse
in all fairness it’s better to sleep even couple of weeks on the airport floor then die in a storm
Some of those days there was barley any weather
with those options i choose death
@@train_go_boom2065 across the whole country? I doubt that. It can be sunny at the airport you're at and severe weather on the route to the airport you're going.
@@train_go_boom2065 and yes there was severe weather. Facts

It's literally a horrible feeling being at the Airport for an extremely long time lol.

yea, obviously lol. it's possibly bc of budget costs, lack of airline employees, or just rerouting via alternative routes.
Yeah the employees have it bad
I live in Atlanta and I can confirm that this airport madness is out of control. A few weeks ago I came to the airport to pick up my family relatives that just came back from Singapore and the line was crazy! I even saw one women break down crying in the line because it looked like she was gonna miss her flight….
Always gotta make it about urself🤔
That’s why I give myself 2hrs - 3 hrs before flight just in case

I can relate. When I tried to get back to Miami after going to Star Wars Celebration 2022 in Anaheim CA, I ended up stuck in Dallas for two days. It wasn't all bad, I decided to go on a retro video game hunting adventure and had a blast. Found quite a few NES games in their original packaging.
Same we had a 24 hr delay in Dallas one time. Went to the art museum, which was free, and rented electric scooters and explored the city. Made some great lemonade out of the lemons we were dealt.
May the force be with you
That actually sounds like a great memory lol. It’s good that you had extra money for unplanned adventures.
Retroarch baby!
I got stuck in Austin for 10 hours once, pretty uncomfortable but I slept for most of it.
I have two trips coming up in two consecutive months. Hopefully it’ll be smooth sailing.
Gonna pray it's not 🙏🏼🙏🏼😩
I got a trip in some weeks, hope ill be fine.
Always bring extra money. No one is gonna help you pay for anything if something happens
It won't be 😂 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Be kind to employees everywhere 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Yes, being kind often gets you more favors and luck. If you're nasty no one is willing to help you.
Nah gonna be rude asf 😂 🤣
people literally thought that employees can move mountains if they just insist like bruh
@@Needsmoreflash This is so true. I've been given priority at airports when things like this happen and everyone else is screaming and shouting around me.
The airlines should have to pay for food, hotels and other supplies that people whose flights were canceled needed for the time they were stuck. It is unacceptable and the airlines need to be held accountable. Not the employees, but the higher ups
How is it their fault that most of their staff had to quit because of a government mandate
That's what they used to do in the 80s. I got comped by an airline when a flight was cancelled. They even put me up in a hotel. Now they don't care.
@@yomamagagaga A lot of assumptions here…. “Most staff?” Where did you get this information from? “Had to quit?” You’re just spewing out stuff to fit a preconceived agenda you already made up your mind on. If you really care about facts, you can go, for example, to Delta airlines website and find out from the horse’s mouth why they’re having issues.
They do! But some people just want to sleep at the airport to find a husband.
@@yomamagagaga they should pay better wages. That is the easiest way to attract more workers
I love when people think 🤔 the airport is going to be empty during summer time 😆 I love my every year vacation on October! 😌 the best time of the year !
Yep. From after Labor Day to mid-November is the slow period for the airlines.
yeah, this is like going to McDonalds at noon and crying because you have to wait in line
when you have kids in school that's not really an option and come fall break it can get bad too
wow what brave inspirational warriors overcoming this traumatic airport experience 🥺🥺🥺
Dude, being stuck at an airport for DAYS is NOT easy. You should try it sometime before acting tough.
@@Kira1Lawliet I've been stuck in an airport before, it's the fact that it made news and they're interviewed in the exact same manner they would a shooting survivor lolll
@@Kira1Lawliet being stuck in an airport for days sure beats months or years of homelessness. Go cry about it🤡🤡
@@gordon7621 I think you're projecting a bit. People get interviewed on the news for every sort of incident ranging from mass human casualties to stories about inconveniences. The fact that they're being interviewed isn't an example of equating them to shooting survivors, and there's no reason to downplay what they went through just because it wasn't something catastrophic. Getting stranded at an airport for that long, WITH children and having to sleep on the floor, is not a trivial inconvenience, it's genuinely a struggle. Granted, not a life-altering struggle, but a struggle nonetheless.
@@Kira1Lawliet this comment is literally just a dig at how IE runs their stories, think you misinterpreted the shooting part, but thanks for the novel I agree with the gist of it!
Funny story, me and my family were in Kansas City and we’re going back to our home in Virginia. When I was packing up our flight got delayed but that meant we couldn’t make out connection so the airline re-booked our flight to the next morning at around 5:00am luckily my dad called and we got the last four seats on a flight. The catch was that it was a direct flight and earlier then our other flight that got delayed! My mom would have missed 3 calls if my dad hadn’t called.
Traveling is apart of my job and this happened last month. My flight canceled lasted minute and I was stuck at the airport for 26 hrs! I booked a rental car for next month so hopefully there won’t be any issues🙏🏽.
I can see how bad it is after dropping off my grandparents today. The lines were terrifyingly long in some airlines, mainly middle eastern centered ones. Luckily my grandparents were united with no line but I just found out their flight got pushed an hour and a half. We got there 3 hours early to make sure they got someone pushing their wheelchairs. I just hope they got something to eat and aren't stressing out. Dropped them off at 3PM, it is 11PM and as far as I know they haven't taken off :(
Wheelchairs??? Grandparents??? You made your elderly sick grandparents come to visit you and you just dropped them off at the door and drove off?? What a jerk.
@@karlabritfeld7104 Without understanding OP's arrangements, there's no need to refer them as a "jerk".

i traveled recently and got lucky with my flights to and from hawaii, vegas, and texas. hope everyone can get home safely!
Her last statement made no sense they're going to cancel more flights to prevent further disruptions???
Right wtf 😂?
My aunt's flight out of Logan was delayed due to weather in Atlanta and staff shortage. She missed her connecting flight and had to stay at the airport to get a seat on the next flight in the morning.
I think there's a bigger reason than staff shortages.
My heart goes out to that anchor who missed father's day with his family ! 🙏🏻
When I was in Orlando in 2010, our plane got hit by lightning, and our flight got canceled, we were the second to last people to book a hotel room, and then the flights all got canceled
My flight was canceled due to a food catering delay that put the pilots over time. Thankfully we got put up in a hotel and I caught the next flight out that morning.
Suggestions : if you nust connect find a city within 200 miles to connect if possible, if miss flight you could rent a car to make it home or destination. Of course don't forget to let agents know your plans that way your return is synced and not canceled as a no show . Good luck peeps.
Probably good to make a rental car reservation that can be cancelled. I've heard of people wanting to drive only to find there's no rentals available.
We had a nightmare like this about 6 years ago. Finally found a hotel about 60 miles from the airport. Ubered there, got our rooms, rented a car the next day (not easy to find), ubered to car rental, then drove 600 miles home. Could not get through to Delta so couldn’t let them know. They refunded our tickets anyway. I would say if you’re stuck like that keep widening your circle until you find a hotel. Same with rental car. If we had stayed at the airport, we wouldn’t haven gotten a flight for at least a day after we arrived home.
I was in the Atlanta airport a few days ago, my flight was delayed by so much that I got home at 1 in the morning.
Similar experience but out of Charlotte my 7 pm flight left at 12:30 am, landed around 2:30 am, made it home at 4 am and was at work by 8 am. I’m just glad my sister woke up at 3 am to keep me awake for the drive home.
I know in Baltimore, DC, and NYC there were talks about installing a high speed bullet train to test to see if it could work before testing it nationwide. We should get on that.
That is a great idea 💡. Thank you for your suggestion
They should of had this years ago. From my understanding when this came out in Asia and Europe it was blocked by certain companies in the US bc they didn’t want the competition.
Its better to be alive and waiting rather than flying through the storm and be unsure if you can get through the storm and survive
This wasnt due to understaffing. Perhaps if they treated their employees like people and paid a better wage, they wouldnt have lost so many employees.
I work in the travel industry and is a nightmare!
Bless your heart 🥺
I hope I see you in the airport so I can yell and call you names.
I attempted to fly from Wilmington, NC to Orlando. Had a layover in Charlotte, but our flight out of Wilmington got delayed because of weather in Charlotte. I would barely make my flight. Then, when the plane got there, the gate agents did their best to get us on that plane and out of there ASAP. As we were going down the breezeway, they had us turn back because we were suddenly covered in a downpour.
I checked with the gate agent, there were NO flights through American that would've gotten me to Orlando that night (and I needed to be for a special after-hours event at Universal). So, I asked them to cancel my tickets, give me a reference for refunds, and I drove 2 hours to Raleigh and caught a Delta flight non-stop to Orlando. I never got mad at the gate agents, and they worked with me wonderfully to understand my options. AND, I got a full refund for my round-trip flight. Summer travel is especially tricky because storms can pop up out of nowhere. I'd rather be stranded or drive to a different airport than fly in unsafe conditions.
Wow I was lucky. I went to South Africa and the most trouble I had was that I was stuck on the plane for 45 minutes after it landed (it was already an 8 hour flight)
Just to let everyone know, there was no bad weather, only staff shortages
And hopefully it will be fixed
Actually through the Charlotte area (which is a major hub) there was weather. But yes the staff shortages was the biggest issue.
The C19 jabs airlines mandated have killed & disabled quite a few pilots. They won’t talk about it. I believe the requirement was finally lifted at most airlines, but the damage has already been done.
Yup and weren't they forcing v a x s on the pilots?

This happened to my husband an I on Thanksgiving a few years back. Thank God we didn't have kids yet. We got stuck in Chicago in winter 🥶 hubby got sick sleeping on the cold airport floor. And we ended up sleeping in the airport for two nights cus they kept on canceling our flight
This happend to me yesterday when I was trying to get home from Las Vegas and they said my flight was delayed and it took an hour or two for my flight to get ready.
a small delay isn't really that uncommon
my flight was delayed two hours because of a lack of employees and the way back it was delayed 3 hours because the plane wasn’t working and we had to reboard another plane that had 30 less seats. people got stranded but I was lucky
