that “advertiser content” disclaimer at the top right of the video at the start, needs to be MUCH larger please
Love your content! Followed you on bilibili too, though you stopped uploading...
I didn't even notice!
thank you captain,
I thought it's informative.
it's Scott! yep, should've been its own frame.
They should put it on the thumbnail too.
this video feels like an IBM ad
hmmm, i wonder why
wait until you see the top right of the video
It is.
Mention in the desrcription too.
@@emadadnan000 it is in the description
Vox needs to decide if its an ad agency or a news outlet and then be honest and up front about it...
It literally says "Advertiser Content from IBM" in the top right corner, how more honest can Vox be??
@@OculusUniversale I would have liked to see them put "ad" in the thumbnail or video title so people know before they click.
@Adamjohnhall Alright that's fair, I didn't think of that
On phones that’s so tiny
Vox has always been trash
Nice ad.
Would have been a nice ad if they ended with this video is completely made by AI
@@Mohamed-Yakhlef Actually, it would have been worse. 😉🤪
I realize you all have to make money, but I'm 0% interested in watching sponsored videos/ads.
websearch for 'sponsorblock'
CalebCity makes great ads.
Exactly, it's lame. 😑
especially since it's not just a segment, but the entire video
So how am I supposed to trust any video Vox puts out about AI after this?
Because if its ad it tells it on the right upper corner of the video. 🤷🏻♂️
@@samthesomniator They're taking IBM money now. That's going to influence the tone of their content on the subject. little ad tag or not.
@@chrisrenfroe4243 they choose sponsors they align with in world view I guess. Why not.
Why are you wasting our time with an ad?
money money money money money money
LOL!
Because free content isn't free and never has been.
Why wasn't this posted on IBM's UA-cam channel?
Nice ad for IBM'S AI services.
Bro. What is this, Vox? So much for real journalism.
Vox, are you really that hard up for money that you have to make an entire video that's an ad and put it in our feeds? And if you're going to put 'ad' in the description, why not the title as well?
Probably, yeah. If you don't like it you're free to donate to Vox so they don't have to rely on advertisers to pay their employees.
At least, Gutenberg's printing press did not generate what it printed.
Did I just spend 5 minutes watching an IBM commercial?
Indeed! 🤣🤣🤣
Bro what?
I watched an ad to watch another ad.
Where have the humans arrived? 😵💫
Please, for the love of transparency, can you put something in the TITLE of this video that states this is advertiser content not just in the description.
It's in the corner of the entire video too
They did! 🎉
it is in the title if you read it
Thank the heavens for SponsorBlock. I don't mind sponsorships, Vox employees' bills don't pay themselves. But you have to indicate that this is sponsored content (2nd paragraph of the description doesn't count).
So displaying "Advertiser Content from IBM" at the top right for the duration of the video doesn't count either? 😂
It's just a 4:49 second IBM ad.
This views like some tech bro’s weird linkedin post
Comparing the Guttenberg press to Ai is kind of silly. I would just recommend you all to learn what Ai actually is, what its capabilitys are and very importantly what it is not.
This is a video by IBM. IBM is not ignorant. They know exactly what AI is and what it can and can't do. But the general public doesn't. So they can sell AI as something that it isn't.
@@answer5092 exactly
This is an ad.
I noticed that too!
guys description literally says "Advertiser content from @IBM"... Yes, 5minutes of your life were just sold
Guys, srsly. Mark this IBM by Vox, not Vox by IBM.
Off topic but video editor went kinda hard with this one
I agree.
the transition of the dots to the background of the interview was cold
I wouldn't be surprised if this was entirely created by IBM and just given to Vox to upload.
@@XR4turbo no, i can see vox's editing style all over this.
@@XR4turbo nah ibm don't edit like this
This is only an advert, no other content in this video.
Businesses do not focus on ai to make the life of consumers better. They do it for profits. Right IBM?
The thing is that technology with AI is impacting more creative jobs (which humans usually prefer doing) than jobs that demands more physically from humans. I think this completely changes what we as a society expected of technology.
This is not a vox video, this is an ad for a fad.
Oof. Hey, Vox- in case the other comments don't make it clear, we come to you for JOURNALISM. This does not come across as that. It comes across as rose-colored glasses ad for IBM's AI projects when the majority of us are pretty wary of it and what it will mean for our careers and livelihoods.
Not a good look.
“[AI is going to unlock] $16 trilion in additional GDP”
And the people will see none of that while corporations who once outsourced to developing nations, instead outsource to a prediction machine that won’t unionize.
What if I told you the only way these models can be trained to their current capabilities is by relying on reinforcement learning workers making $2/hr in Kenya and abroad lol
Every part of this technology is built on exploitation
@@fluxophile Exactly this. The working class is being robbed blind but we’re not organized enough to do anything about it
Clicked here expecting a well explained Vox doc, and turned out to watch an ad. Shame.
Not a good video.
Boring ad.
What happened to the "includes paid promotion" tag?
Pro tip to anyone watching this, its a fluff piece ad, absolutely nothing of value please save your time
kinda hard to like a video about something that was just sponsored by that very thing ngl
Vox: "The Future of AI is Open"
AI: "When I started out as Open-AI, where were you?"
Elon Musk: "Exactly"
Open AI is no longer open. It's source code and training data are not open to the public.
Didn't know Vox does 4 minute ads
Cool, thanks for the 5 minute ad posted for people who are much wealthier than I am and are trying to prevent me from acquiring wealth.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW I'M WATCHING AND AD!!
Technically they have, beginning of thee video, right conner but white font blends into info graphics so well that many have missed it.
Just how this whole discussion shifted from "how dangerous is AI" to "AI is here to stay"
For no apparent reason or discussion.
AI is a simulation of thought, writing is thought
How do you differentiate between simulation and “real”?
@@utsavmangla8552 For a short answer one major difference i have in mind and obviously i don't pretend to have the truth, though I did do research on the topic (philosophy of technics). (and excuse my grammar i'm not used to talk in English about those topics)
TL;DR a cooking robot will never invent a dish
when writing, the human interacts with the technical object as anyone does while thinking/working, there's a sort of back and forth between the text and your mind. Anyone who creates a text experiences the fact that the "thought" seems to emerge while writing, from the interaction. in other words it's difficult to conceive a thought "full made in the head" which only needs to be written down (even a birthday card verifies this!)
such interactions are definetly possible with computing machines but AI models don't need human interaction per se (the paper does and will never write itself).
also the interaction produces unpredictability and statistical automation relies on predictability obviously. eventually a simulation will never be able to modify itself as in producing a result that changes its own rules (just as any human does when cooking, writing, building a house, etc)
without human activity a simulation will eventually produce stereotyped, "middle" results (every AI model so far confirms that rule as far as i know)
i hope i was clear, there's more to say obviously
I miss old vox
SponsorBlock never lies.
Listening to this, I even said to myself -God, is this an IBM ad? And turns out yes.
So uhh the whole “[SPONSOR] didnt influence the editorial of this video but did make it possible” thing is out the window is it?
This ad does not belong on Vox. I expected better from you.
"By offloading repetitive tasks, AI offers businesses a chance to empower their teams...", yeah sure we are fools!
I learned nothing about AI. Except that Vox is advertiser driven more than other media outlets.
FTC's guidelines for sponsored content: "Include disclosures in three key areas: written in description, superimposed over video, and verbally in video. Written disclosures should be included within the first two lines (125 characters) of the video description above the 'show more' prompt."
No verbal disclosure, and written disclosure is hidden in the "show more" area. Go ahead and get paid but follow the rules about it pls.
Why is printing being compared to AI? They can't be more far apart
The comparison is on how emerging technologies can be used for good purposes they can and have always been used nefarious ones. Point is we shouldn’t let that fact prevent useful innovations. Would come off better if it came from a historian or something and not the VP of a corporation with a vested interest in us trusting the technology though 😅
IBM is nowhere near being a leader in the AI industry.
Almost all video blocked by Sponsorblock
First the Better Help sponsor, now a whole 5 minute ad that's barely disclosed as an ad? Yeah, all your credibility is gone. Sad.
People use analogy to explain what AI is like, part of the arguments are true. But I think the best analogy would be stock footage. Some creator would benefit from such tool. But not most of them.
Well, at least it's not another BetterHelp ad...
It's open until it isn't.
Read description, this is an ADVERTISEMENT!
This really should have been titled “Puff Piece”.
I pay for UA-cam premium, now there are videos themselves which are ads
yeah no. im unsubbing, im not supporting a channel that pushes AI slop.
ok, you don't need to announce your departure
I understand the need for advertisements to keep this content free. But I-and I don't think anyone else-came here expecting a 5 minute long paid ad.
2:10 dude is just making up words at this point.😂😂😂
pretty sure this goes against yts ToS vox... quite shady
This is the route Apple should have collaborated with, rather than "ClosedIA."
Was bouta be surprised that there was 2 Vox videos in a day. Too bad it's an ad.
You should mark commercials clearly. This is quite unethical.
While I understand that journalism needs support from advertisers to run its programs, this hurts credibility. The advert reeks of tone-deafness.
yeah thats not even just sponsored thats literally just an ad
LLMs use too much electricity and water. Even if it’s an ad do better than neglecting important context
So, this is an ad piece without disclosing
It's on the description and on the top right corner of the video itself. They're trying to be sneaky about it, though.
Wow advertisement video about AI 🙄 I didn't noticed that disclaimer and was wondering why the video sounds so shallow....
Saying the future of AI is open is like saying the future of operating systems is open because Linux exists; closed source models are better and the power in AI is heavily footed in lots of very expensive hardware that isn't accessible to users
My big gripe with this video and AI in general is that, while yes it sounds nice with cool buzzwords "offloading repetitive tasks" and "improving workflow", maybe less than 10% of people are going to see and use it that way. The rest of society does it differently.
ayy yo, this ad had some content in it
THIS IS AN AD!
This is an ad
AI directly steals from the works of creatives
Vox is declining in quality
Cool an ad for IBM. I thought the Microsoft-sponsored AI video a few months back was a one off but I guess not
pretty sure this is an ad geez, did this AI ad help Vox deliver more value? ...like how the printing press caused more ads? fun.
There's another possibility that an "Advertisement from IBM" wouldn't say, namely that invester money dries up, and nobody puts money into a bot that steals art and lies anymore.
The Future of Ads Is Sneaky
So where's your AI model? IBM
Because they are B2B business, you wont see their models on consumer devices.
As a Vox lover, this was a very interesting way to approach this story visually. Something Vox excels at, is visual story telling. And relying on graphics and animation in this one made it difficult/boring to follow. AI is admittedly not visual, but this video seemed to lack brainstorming and preproduction that goes into their other journalism.
Edit: I just realized this is becuase it’s an IBM ad. And it shows.
Vox used to be something. Now, Oh Lord, Crige all along.
It could have been more discrete about the fact that it was an ad, but they just kept leaning further into the sell.
Europeans learnt printing from China & even the next word prediction required for AI came from Chinese typewriters. Roman numerals were clumsy so current one came from India through Arab traders. Knowledge never remains static.
Gotta love how ray kurzweil predicted how everyones reacting to ai before the year 2000 😂
Wow I didn’t know I was capable of watching a 5 minute ad anymore.
what is going on this is just a straight up advertisement
AI making our lifes better? I do not see this.
Wait, when did the commercial end and the UA-cam video start?
i didn’t realize this was an ad at first. i think that’s rather shameful for a news organization that i respect quite a bit.
too much ad. i'll think twice before watching another Vox.
😂💀 nice try Vox sponsored by IBM; Comparing AI to the printing press 😂💀💀💀 nice try.
The future of AI is a massive amount of energy burned for no good reason.
The thing in the beginning is just false, there isn't any proof the Gutenberg knew of chinese prints. The two things he solved where the problem of equal ink distribution of large prints and the problem of cheap repreducable type blocks. So the thing special about it was the alloys that could be cast with details, and once they are worn out easily be recast into new ones.
This is just an ad.
But honestly the intiative seems interesting and open enough that I don't really mind. Let's just hope they don't pull an OpenAI lol
well guys good luck trusting vox with releasing a properly documented and researched video on AI, tf is this
What a title
I think open source AI is probably not a great idea.
I mean at current AI intelligence levels, it's not too bad. But at some point you have random hackers building skynet in their basement. Whether deliberately, or just because they are careless. Do you want a robot uprising, because this is how you get a robot uprising.
Vox videos are usually pretty great so Imma give you a mulligan today, but if you put ads in my feed again then you will no longer be in my feed.
I'm a software engineer who specializes a machine learning and AI. This video is going to age very poorly. The only thing that AI can actually do really well is help people code better. If you need a single image created and don't want to pay somebody for it, AI can work for you. If you need something to be identified by a machine, AI should work pretty well. If you need to collect a bunch of research on a specific topic in a short amount of time, AI will help you. It's not going to change the world the way that smartphone did.
