So motorcycle cops are some of the most skilled rider there are and he has a point don't change multiple lanes quickly. Also take a msf course. It's for motorcycles but aside from clutch handling all the knowledge transfers over.

He cut several lanes of traffic to make the turn then he proceeded to turn into the left turn lane only to go and turn into the furthest right you can’t do that in a car. Obey the laws of the road and cops will generally leave you alone on these I always ride the bike lane and never do what this guy did.

You're right about giving them respect. I saw 2 officers ticketing parked cars, so I stopped the Extreme Bull and asked them about it and it's legality. They were really cool, and said they didn't know if these things are legal or not. They will get familiarized on these things though before long.
It's just a matter of time. People need to go have fun before it gets worse. But it's gonna be hard because if u follow the laws u could have a 20000w ebike in the bike lane all day long they wouldn't know. But if your going 50-70mph of course. Man up and take the ticket u got caught. My car goes 155mph. Can't drive more than 70mph max. You get caught oh well not your lucky day haha.
Very cool police officers. The one even admitted these bikes when they are limited to slower than 30 they're more dangerous on the road. Just wish they would make the rules simple just have to abide by the legal speed limits. Most places bikes paths are 15 mph. Roadways are already posted. No need for all these motor size limits and stuff. Just makes than more complicated than it needs to be.

100% agree with you there. I ride the speed limit and Do NOT lane split on my Inmotion RS. Never gotten pulled over by a cop in Los Angeles. We gotta keep our cool when riding and be respectful with the speed limit, so we dont give them a reason to make us get a license for these as well as registration.

my friend whos a cop told me that if they want to they can impound/confiscate my surron if I ride it on the road so I tried to register my surron as moped so I can use it on the road but freakin dmv wont let me stating they dont have a category for that yet. Now Im scared to ride my surron on the streets, what a waste of a nice toy.

I was pulled over a whole bunch last year as they're trying to crack down on scooters and dirt bikes in my area and surprisingly without a motorcycle endorsement every time I got let go.
I treated them like human beings and mine was registered and insured the main things they care about. And the only reason I didn't buy any ebike was I knew I was eventually going to get pulled over and couldn't afford to have it confiscated. As I actually use it to go to work. I just wish there was an easy way to register them like a drone.

The cops were looking at me on my echopper wondering if they should stop me or not. It was a state trouper so that would have been interesting, he passed by once and then turned around and drove by slowly to take a 2nd look and then drove off. I was on a bike path so maybe he was thinking it had a gas engine on it at first, as most do have a gas engine on them. One thing for sure would be, is I'm not going to tell them it can do 55 to 60mph. You can't see the two batteries as they are in saddlebags, and the saddlebags cover up the motor so you can't really see how big it is. Even if the cops tried to find out something about it, all they could find out is that it was a bike made many years ago.
It's guys that ride like MrCentralDriver that put ebikes on the radar of the State, which leads to regulation and red tape, making the hobby or this form of transportation cost more.
It's the 100+ people group rides that take over streets that draw a lot of attention. When its just one person by themselves, it's not a big deal. What I did, did not harm anybody, piss anybody off, or Cause any traffic issues. The roadrunner scooter I'm on is designed for 50mph. I'm a ride it like so and if I get caught, just man up and deal with what happens.

I live in Fresno, you can get your ebikes moped license plate as long as it has pedals. You can do it without pedals. I have a motorized bike with moped license plates, just did the paper work and paid $20 for registration and they sent me a plate. 4 years ago I tried doing it for my Huck Stinger, they wanted me to go to CHP office for them to clear it so I went downtown Fresno/99 area had them check it out with the vehicle origination paper, asked me a few questions, he went inside possibly look the moped up online. Came out everything was signed, mailed the paper work and got my 2nd moped license plate. Road legal for both, and I keep a copy of DMV handbook since it states on there my stuff are road legal.
problem with registering your bike. Once it has plates your not allowed on bike trails or bike paths now that its considered a vehicle. You could probably get away with it because no cop will be looking for you at woodward park. You also pay fees and if you do anything like i did in this video. you will get a ticket because it will have a plate. no more sidewalk or bike lane from my understanding. but its great for some people. id do it for a surron sinc eits fast for traffic but not a regular bike. most of these are review units so no point for me

Besides being respectful I wouldn't be offering up any info to them because it could be used against you in a court or as an example when police show politicians video evidence of why there needs to be a new law against PEVs or something...

Ticket quotas are gone in california. Look it up. You can say whatever you want to a cop. I could tell them I was doing 100mph on that scooter before they got me. They can't ticket me because I could be making things up or just saying random stuff. They have to catch you. The only time it will become a problem is if you're wanted and have a record. The good thing about my area is our city isn't setup for bikes so there is little to none around that go 30+ mph. And I have cops as friends on my Facebook. They no my youtube channel. Me riding a fast bike doesn't put people's lifes in danger when they weight 100lbs. It Puts mine in danger and the lack of people seeing me and could get killed. More Laws will come regardless. We already have laws and people break them like me. U get caught. You man up and deal with it. Just like if you go over the speed limit in a car. You got caught. Be respectful. Cops gotta do they job.
He was pretty nice man. Ive never gotten pulled over on my Inmotion RS Midnight while riding innthe street but i dont speed or lane split either, i just have the worst luck in the planet when it comes to me and cops once they pull me over, they find something to give me a ticket for on my regular car so i always drive or ride the speed limit. 5 months in with my RS so far no tickets. I do have a front and rear dashcam with GPS to make sure i protect my self. You were pretty cool with the cops too. Thats a HUGE plus man, if anyone gives them an attitude, thats a sign for a bad outcome.
So many in the comments are telling you to stop talking to the police, and that you're oversharing... Are people that afraid of police knowing/understanding more about Electric Vehicles? Are they doing something illegal, so they don't want cops to know?
Seriously, I see nothing wrong with you talking to the cops about the specs. As they said, they don't know much about the regulations for that particular model, etc... And by asking questions, helps them to know how to handle the same situation if it were to arise again. There's nothing wrong with that.
If the scooter needs to be registered and tagged (I'm sure it does), then by them knowing more about that particular scooter, they can inform the rider of the legal laws, if they weren't aware. There's nothing wrong with that.

I didn't do 50mph shooting across lanes. I did like 25mph going from the bike lane where I'm suppose to be to get in the turn lane which was 2 lanes I crossed and go the other way. I'm I suppose to merge to each lane and ride in the street before merging over? I would have had to go a mile down the road to the next light. Go on the sidewalk. Hit the crosswalk button. Wait, cross, then go another mile backtrack. There was no traffic either
Man... everyone has said everything already but... damn you are lucky since that thing has PEGS not pedals and in my area even the dumbest cops know to look for PEDALS (or at least I am told they are starting to). We have a bunch of parents (like 8) that just bought their kids (12-15 yr/old) Sur Rons in a group buy... I just keep watching craigslist and Nextdoor for when they go on fire sale after the local cops start enforcing NO PEGS after a kid gets seriously hurt on a "green wire clipped" Sur Ron.
Every time I run into any group of kids on Sur Rons (and the like) I tell them they have to be smart and chill around where lots of people are, as you don't want to get busted by a cop. I know they are going to mess around and do what they want to do; there is just never any reason to be stupid and get the police's attention. I tell them that if their parents can afford a Sur Ron they can afford a proper full face helmet, gloves with sliders, and a kevlar hoodie (Gullinbursti is my go to) w/ D30 Ghost armor.

My only frustration is California wants to ban all gas vehicles and wants everyone going electric. But they want to ban all the electric bikes, scooters, one wheels. This makes no sense. look at Vietnam and how efficient people on bikes get around.
This is not true. The biggest problem is the battery's need to be UL certified now because fires. And it's mostly the kids without a drivers license like 16 and under on 40-50mph which is what's a big concern.
