Rich, You will NEVER have to worry about me bypassing you for "do it yourself" leather work or gun smithing. This has been by far your BEST video. Never heard of Skyving before and found the process very interesting. Jona's commentary during filming.............................Priceless!! Great job.

Thank you so much. I've been slaving over a leather covered recoil pad and the magic sauce was the armpit leather. I tried skiving it super thin, sanding, soaking in water, alcohol, leather conditioner, ect. but flipping the hide over and cutting the blank from the other side of the skin where the arm was got me a wrinkle free pad with almost no effort.
Rich, you are this armorers personal hero.

recoil pad ever. So I'm searching for a leather covered recoil pad maker here in Germany. I found him, a tiny company of gunstock-makers in Thuringia nearby Suhl.
But at first I will try it for self. Thanks you so much!

Really a nice touch, looks Great but for me I prefer the cheaper rubber pad for shooting. I would use the money saved on more ammo since the price is going out of sight. I used to reload my own shells until shotshell parts became pricey and hard to get. Thanks for the Vid!

Nice work, to say the very least. I've watched you and Larry Potterfield perform this task and have determined it's not worth the trouble.
You see, the Louis Vuitton shoes look so brilliant because they possess no plugs. The plugs disgrace the whole laborious process. I mean come on, you used fine Nigerian goat skin that you yourself skived.
Is there no way to secure a cover that fits snugly over a ghost piece between the stock and the leather pad obviating the need for plugs? I know, I know, that's NOT how British gunsmiths did it. Guess what? Maybe you're smarter and a better craftsman? "That's not what people want." Make it...They'll want it.
Just remember, you have heard it here first.
