A very RARE and Very Cool, Vintage 1987 Gibson IV Bass Guitar with a Gibson Branded Gigbag.
Gibson produced the Bass IV between 1987 and 1989. It has a mahogany body and neck with an ebony fingerboard. The pickups were two Thunderbird units. The Gibson IV is a forgotten gem often overlooked in discussions about Gibson basses.
The bass is essentially a late 80s Thunderbird that is shaped like a Precision, with two extra frets. The neck dimensions are closer to a Precision than a Thunderbird's. It has a 34 inch full scale neck, 22 frets and a 1 3/4 inch scale nut.
This cool bass came to us covered in stickers and very very dirty. We were thrilled when the yellow'd Ivory White Finish came thru the haze to reveal this really beautiful color. Certainly more gold than white now. You can see the fade of one of the stickers on the back of the guitar. Check those pics!
We put a new set of stings on it and set it up with awesome playing action. It's a dream to play now. The Thunderbird Pickups are HUGE!! I was shocked when we plugged it in. I sat and played it for quite awhile. What a sound! I love Ebony Fingerboards. This one is is in great shape. The original frets still in great shape! It has dings and scratches but no real damage. Some finish crazing has started to give this original nitro finish a great look
The bass is all original. Gibson tuners, truss rod cover, metal knobs, pickups and strap buttons. Only the newer gigbag is not original. The bass weighs 9 lbs exactly.
Beautiful but its vintage and used so it's sold as is no returns. Thanks for respecting that.
