Miley should have been more yodely. It's not as impressive or emotive.
Every time I hear Miley Cyrus I think this is awesome but I'm like oh my God I want so much more like put more stink into it it's like she's good but her voice could be so much more if she went insane on every song unless she is going insane that's her top level but I think if she had a wild Insanity when she sang every song she be so much better but she's like one level away from being amazing
Miley's voice has one of the best lower registers among female pop singers. She was amazing in this song.
I mean... she is just soooo close to full on screaming she might as well just give us a GUTTURAL growl at some point. I love this new style from her.

@Easonitus Actually, during this years Superbowl where Miley performed she had Joan Jett on stage and they sang three songs together, so your imagination is not as far fetched as you might think.

Her voice is meant for rock, she needs to come out with an all Rock album, it would be great!
Miley's vibrato comes from her country background. Her dad is Billy Ray Cyrus and her godmother is Dolly Parton, she learned how to sing from these great country singers. Also I am really in love with all the harsh vocals that we hear more often! (Saving up enough to get some lessons with you Mary!)

Did you hear her on the Chris Cornell memorial? Also, she did a great cover of "I'll take care of you," about 7 yrs back.
Her voice has DEF changed since her vocal surgery about 11 months ago.
That rasp sounds permanent now.

I love Miley Cyrus's covers, especially her rock stuff. She also absolutely killed "Say Hello to Heaven" at the Chris Cornell tribute concert. It will give you chills. Would love to see you react to that (even though it's not metal).
Miley’s ability to just change and grow effortless with her style and voice and tone and all of the things is super admirable! Just imagining back to the Hannah Montana days + Party in the USA to bangerz to dead pets to the stuff she’s doing now it’s amazing. What an artist!!

You should check out her cover of heart of glass. It's a more rock than the original and very interesting.

Miley going rock is the best thing she's ever done music wise. It fits her voice so well and I'm excited to hear more.

Fuck, I'm very happy to know that she's reaching a different audience and succeeding. Yes, a 'pop star', but she has always been connected to rock, with several references since she was a child. What she did at the Chris Cornell tribute show where she sang Say Hello to Heaven Temple of the God, is fckn incredible. That got me to pay attention to her a bit. Then she just recently covered Doll Parts Hole on the H.Stern show. I was like holy shit. I’m loving this lane she’s in.
You should check out her nine inch nails Head Like a Hole cover she does. Really good cover.

There are times when I'm like, yes it's great and some where the twang seeps in and it's nails on a chalkboard. The little growl was damn impressive though. Definitely want more of that.

Honestly I've loved Miley's voice since I was a kid and obsessed with Hannah Montana. I'm kinda sad that the kinda music she makes is lost on me (I'm just a punk, metalhead, goth, emo, ebm, industrial person through and through), because she really does have great control when she's singing, which makes me even happier about this cover though! :D

That's what I thought, too, until I started hearing recent stuff (of which this was, for me, the first). Check out her Heart of Glass and her Doll Parts. I'm becoming a MUCH bigger fan than I used to be....
I'm a bit late to the party on this. If you haven't heard Miley cover of Say Hello to Heaven from the Chris Cornell tribute concert just do it. I never gave a second thought about her but she totally earned my respect on that preference alone.

I believe she had a thing with her vocal chords earlier this year so she had to be intervened, one could say her current raspiness isn't 100% intentional. She used to reach some very high notes. That means she had to make it work for some new music and boy oh boy. Funny enough, in my opinion this is her best era. Please react to her Gimme More and Communication covers for MTV Unplugged, they are FIRE. Trust me. Also, I LOVE her vibrato, wish I could do stuff like that but my voice only sounds good late at night? Weird.

Miley has come a long way from her early days as shallow pop star. She did Country for a bit and did it well. Now Hardrock/Grunge and yes, I like it.

She sounds good, but you can’t hear the vocal changes since her surgery. She doesn’t seem able to do head voice in any of her songs anymore, and the rasp seems to be there whether it’s called for or not. It doesn’t seem like something she can turn on and off like she used to. Just what I’ve observed.

It's very reminiscent of Bonnie Tyler after the vocal surgery. However I wonder if it was caused by the procedure itself or her not abiding by the post-surgery instructions.

on her joe rogan podcast she said smoking made her voice deeper and she didn't take care of it when she was younger and works on preserving her voice now
