Some of our greatest artists, writers, entertainers, etc. have had to suffer for their art. I will always be grateful that I discovered Rick back in the 70s as his talent was definitely apparent then. Beginnings, Comic Book Heroes and Wait For Night were masterpieces ahead of their time that helped me to survive my teenage angst and I will be forever in his debt for that. He continues to inspire me to this day.
Rest in peace Mr. Clark. The best, I mean the best(!), Master of Ceremonies. What a great memory you've left me with....those Saturday mornings and how I couldn't wait to watch AB. Soooo much fun! You will be missed! Well, maybe it is the end of the world. :(
With all the luck Rick was having at this stage of his career, it made perfect sense that Chelsea would go bankrupt just as he arrived, this album was and is still awesome, But like the true talent he is, he never gave up and finally made it, and when he hit it, he hit it everywhere. I also loved his earlier stuff, especially Comic Book Heroes.
Damn this man!! He has had a strange power over me my whole life. No I don't care if he is old enough to be my father. He is not my father!! 😊 He is amazingly talented and still handsome. I love the Accent in this video!! So rare to hear it!! ❤❤💕💕2020
For a young singer like rick springfield he the move then now rick springfield is always will be the top rock star in his concerts ❤️ 🎶 he has fantastic talent now and back then too!
Wow! You all looked like you were having such a good time!! Thanks for posting this Gabe, keep 'em coming! I'll keep watching! Love to see the old RS stuff and those that were with him along the way! Jack, Jeff, Gabe, you guys rock!
Take a Hand is a great song that just missed the top 40 peaking at #41 I think. I bought this album when it was re-released in the early 80s after RS hit it big. Really good record with lots of good tunes.
This is when he still had his Accent. He dropped the accent later on but today when he speaks with an American Accent you can still hear his native Australian accent depending on what he's saying. It will slip out once in a blue moon. He came to the U.S. in 1972, by 1981 he dropped the accent. Told Dick Clark when he appeared on American Bandstand in May of 1981 that a Voice coach assisted him―it took 3months to adapt an American Accent.
I thought Jack White (drummer) was only part of the fabulous eels, (Rick’s name for the band) in 1981. I had no idea he was with Rick back in ‘76. Very cool.
The great lesson to learn here is that never give up on your talent…… in 5 years from this taping Rick would be the biggest new star on tv and music… Pittsburgh Loves Rick Springfield…….
Two songs for the price of one. Great album too. It's good he got his head on straight after this. I never watched General Hospital with Dr Noah Drake but I do remember him a couple years after this as Apollo's little brother, Zack on Battlestar Galactica.
Thanks for posting this. I only remember Rick Springfield from his big hits in the 80's and always loved his music. I remember watching American Bandstand but I know I missed this. He is an awesome performer and he still rocks today at 60.. something. That same strong voice, that fit body and killer good looks. You gotta love all these great singers who have been around or decades. I can't say the same for all the newbies out there. Where will they all be in 30 years?
sorry for the loss of your momma sweet boy. she will be missed, I bet Elvis and Ron as well as many others were all wagging their tails as she approached.
That’s an amazing statement considering his body of work. Have you heard all of his albums ? Especially the last few studio records? The man is a master songwriter/performer/producer. He needs to be in The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
@@nowayjackson Oh yeah I own every album he has made. Some I like better than others. I have seen him in concert more times than I can count at this point lol. Also, two years later I still think it's a great album maybe not my favorite "easily" as I said. But on that day I wrote that I think it was. I go through phases. I would probably say Living In Oz has topped the list since I was a kid, but I love Working Class Dog, The Snake King is a great album, and Rock Of Life. I agree with you 100%.
Ellamay Ab sher he took voice lessons right after this just before battle star glatica which came out in 78. you're old enough to remember that show. he was killed off in the first 5 minutes. I've been a HUGE fan sense 73.
He's said that acting coaches told him to get rid of the Aussie accent or he'd never get acting roles. Then, lo and behold, he winds up on GH with the guy who played Robert Scorpio (I'm blanking on his name right now; Tristan something?)...whose Aussie accent was deemed sexy! Go figure.
@104596284572347150816 I agree SDAA is good, but selections from Rick's 70's material ranks up right up there with some of the best recordings ever made in the history of music. "Believe In Me", "Mother Can You Carry Me", "The Unhappy Ending", etc...they are a reflection of a disturbed, but brilliant musical genius who shares his pain, hope, and faith before life experiences hardens him and his age takes away the youthful and passionate voice. He literally saved my life with his music.
Wow! You all looked like you were having such a good time!! Thanks for posting this Gabe, keep 'em coming! I'll keep watching! Love to see the old RS stuff and those that were with him along the way! Jack, Jeff, Gabe, you guys rock!
Oh yes Rick Springfield!!! Love him!!! Great lovely voice!!! So many memories to behold!! ❤️❤️.. 🌹🌹..

Same for me, Valerie! Exact same 😁
Rick Springfield was and is an excellent singer and musician!
Rest in peace Mr. Clark. The best, I mean the best(!), Master of Ceremonies. What a great memory you've left me with....those Saturday mornings and how I couldn't wait to watch AB. Soooo much fun! You will be missed! Well, maybe it is the end of the world. :(

If there’s someone that doesn’t like Rick Springfield music they’ve never heard Rick Springfield music
I like Rick Springfield

DC was always good to Rick. Had him on a lot. Old Gangsters one of my favorite pre-Jessie’s Girl recordings.
One of my favorites of all his songs.
I will forever love this most amazing man!!
One of the top singers of his era even though he wasn't given as much recognition as some of the others.
Wow! You all looked like you were having such a good time!! Thanks for posting this Gabe, keep 'em coming! I'll keep watching! Love to see the old RS stuff and those that were with him along the way! Jack, Jeff, Gabe, you guys rock!
Wait for Night ... the album that contains these tunes, is full of amazing, uplifting sound and lyrics! Check it out!
I remember this. And his Saturday morning show. Maybe I'm really strange, but I always liked his earlier stuff to the stuff that made him a star.
Agreed.
Welcome back yeah baby!!! Can't wait to see you
Take a Hand is a great song that just missed the top 40 peaking at #41 I think. I bought this album when it was re-released in the early 80s after RS hit it big. Really good record with lots of good tunes.
Always a big Ricker fan.
Love seeing this old stuff now.

While he does sound ok with an American accent when he speaks, I have never quite forgiven him for losing his adorable Australian accent!
I thought Jack White (drummer) was only part of the fabulous eels, (Rick’s name for the band) in 1981. I had no idea he was with Rick back in ‘76. Very cool.
Rick Springfield is a great singer and an underrated actor. Wish his acting career took off like his musical one.
I so remember awesome saw him 5 times in concert he is good with good friends.
Wow! What a great video ... The interview between songs is great. Thanks so much for posting this!!
Rick Springfield is a CLASSIC!
He also did a stint on the soap General Hospital.
M. A. Feist paging Dr. Noah Drake..
Fantastic job
The great lesson to learn here is that never give up on your talent…… in 5 years from this taping Rick would be the biggest new star on tv and music…
Pittsburgh Loves Rick Springfield…….
❤️HAPPY BIRTHDAY RICK!! ❤️ I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! YOU'VE SAVED MY LIFE...💋
I remember this. I was 14 and just started The High School for Performing Arts in New York.
Two songs for the price of one. Great album too.
It's good he got his head on straight after this. I never watched General Hospital with Dr Noah Drake but I do remember him a couple years after this as Apollo's little brother, Zack on Battlestar Galactica.
Do what your heart tells you and he loves music, yessss
Thanks for posting this. I only remember Rick Springfield from his big hits in the 80's and always loved his music. I remember watching American Bandstand but I know I missed this. Listen to that accent! I love it!!!
Rroowwwrrr he can take my hand any day! I will be waiting! I will wait, I will wait forrrr you!!!!
What a fantastic classic piece of Rick footage! Thanks for sharing!
Best music host, Dick born to be in American bandstand
Love the old ones its good to see him sing these songs. I have the albums
The air date appears to be 11/6/76 according to the TV Guide
Just a couple years before his Battlestar Galactica appearance as Apollo's brother Zac (blew my mind the first time I realized that was him).
Rick's best song EVER!
Thanks... this is really quality video, and I love the interview piece in between songs.
He is so talented and I believe in him!!
That acting coach was a bastard, he had a lovely accent. The coach only need it is to teach Rick the basic not losing completely his accent
As a hair challenged man, i would kill to have Rick's head of hair! LOL
This is awesome! Thanks for posting it!
sorry for the loss of your momma sweet boy. she will be missed, I bet Elvis and Ron as well as many others were all wagging their tails as she approached.
I have this album it's such a beautiful album Wait For Night. I also have it on tape, I would love to find the CD
I saw them on Ebay they are expensive. Youtbue has the full album so I listen on here from time to time.
Go Rick!
This was a great show! I wish they could bring it back maybe with Ryan Seacrest.
I love this song
Darling with that accent and smile!!!
OMG! Look how young Springfield is!
Great!
Wow he had a accent then. Love it!
have loved him always,
Oh my childhood love.
You too for uploading this awesome video! lol
Head East (of "Never Been Any Reason") did the remake of "Take A Hand" which kicks off Side 1 of their "Live" 1979 album.
I was 7 years old
.....anyone ELSE happen to notice just how VERY much Jeff's guitar solo peak, resembles that on "Love Gun" a year later? HmmmmMMMM.....
I miss his accent.
@@kimberlyloveless10 Me 3!
Easily my favorite album by him and it came out when I was just a wee toddler.

That keyboard player looks like Quentin Collins when he was cursed as a werewolf.
OMG I've never heard Rick with an Australian accent!
Impressive band, are they still with Rick?
victoria grant no,jack white played with him in 1991 when he came back around doing festivals and stuff.
Hot Video.
The keyboard player is waaay too much into it.
Anyone else think the opening bars of Old Gangsters Never Die are a bit reminiscent of Baba O'Reilly?
Whats the name of the song at the end? The refrain sounds amazing...
Take a Hand
The first song is Take a Hand, the second song is Old Gangster's Never Die.
I was 5 at this time. WHEN DID HE LOSE HIS ACCENT?!
Ellamay Ab sher he took voice lessons right after this just before battle star glatica which came out in 78. you're old enough to remember that show. he was killed off in the first 5 minutes. I've been a HUGE fan sense 73.
Elizabeth Cooper 's oh that is something I didn't know specifically. I watched 4 hours of interviews last night :)
Go figure.
Ellamay Ab sher I think in the early 80s
I remember him still having the accent on an episode of The Rockford Files...probably around '76
What songs are he singing?
70sfaithshumate Take a hand, Old gangster never died
楽しそう
jack white has a son actor
3 Dollar Phonieness of Dick Clark?? If you could have only walked in his shoes.
Rick's three 1970's albums contain the best work he has ever done. Too bad he will always be known for the mediocre 80's stuff.
Well you have never heard 2004's "Shock Denial Anger Acceptance" then. Really, really a great album. (Love the 70's stuff too, though)
@104596284572347150816

He was very underrated. I love all of it too.
Awesome that he could help you
Melanie Zarth My fave is SDAA but I love all his stuff. I think he's better than ever.
shyman99 mediocre??????? u crazy
he came to my college in the 80's and was so wasted on pills....he sucked
song sucked
Rick Springfield is a great singer and an underrated actor. Wish his acting career took off like his musical one.
