@Svenalike Contd: Notable achievements as England manager Germany 1-5 England World Cup qualifier 2001 England 1-0 Argentina 2002 World Cup (Highest FIFA ranking No.4 during World Cup 2006) Managed to reach the quarter final in three consecutive tournaments (WC 2002, Euro 2004, WC 2006). No other European country achieved this during this period, and on an international level only Brazil matched the achievement. To be continued.
@Svenalike England Cont: England was also, apart from Sweden, the only European country that did not suffer elimination from group play or failure to qualify during this time (2001-2006). Achieved the highest point percentage in Major Tournament Matches of all time for an England manager. Lost only 3 full-time competitive games (only 5 in total) and achieved top qualifying place in all three International tournaments during his five and a half years as England manager. To be contd:
@Svenalike England contd: Lost only 3 full-time competitive games and achieved top qualifying place in all three International tournaments during his five and a half years as England manager. Rated by the FA as England's all time 2nd most successful Manager after Alf Ramsey. To be continued:
@Svenalike Manchester City: With only a very few weeks lead time before the season started, Eriksson guided Manchester City to a high of first place in the Premier League, earned himself the Premier League's Manager of the Month award for August. Eriksson became the first Manchester City manager since 1969-70 to win both league derby games against Manchester United and also achieved THE JOINT HIGHEST PREMIER LEAGUE POINT TOTAL IN THE CLUB'S HISTORY! (High acheivers don't need to spoof?)
Lol, Sven's a hypnotist - even us City fans believed in him for a season! Actually, I'd rather watch these guys than the dull ITV and BBC guys, this is a proper panel.
@Ricogear27 Ok, I give up Ricogear. Happy that no one has tried to deny the evidence or real facts and delighted to exist in a world full of smiling faces and audiences who are delighted to see "Sven". I remain proud and grateful to look (and sound and move) like a people's favourite! I am just sad for those in the England team who became "the golden generation" for a few years and have been a real disaster since Sven left and for my friends who do "Fabio" acts. Best wishes and happy delusions.
@Svenalike Nobody knows what Sven might have achieved with ADUG's millions. But his side really had fizzled out in the second half of the season - people got wise to Elano, and there wasn't really a plan B. The win at OT was great, but Man U seemed distracted by all the Munich stuff that day. And not one of the players Sven bought is still a major figure, Hughes wasn't that popular but left us de Jong and Kompany, who I hope will be stalwarts for years to come.
@SeventiesMania There was some reports in the national press of the outrage at Man City when Thaksin first threatened to sack Sven. If you read the day to day reports in The Manchester Evening News archive you will learn that Sven talked the team OUT of going on strike which resulted in them "merely" going on strike on the pitch at the end of that season. Not so much "fizzled out" but (but as with the England team before & Ivory Coast this week) devastated at losing their "best ever coach"?
If I remember correctly, the Fake Sheik told Sven he was interested in buying a club and installing Sven as manager. Sven told him to buy Man City or Aston Villa. Sven said that he would be able to sign David Beckham for what ever club the Sheik bought. Another spoof by Sven? Who knows....
@SeventiesMania Man City enjoyed their best season in three decades, did the double against Man U, got to the top of the prem league for a while, the fans marched and launched a massive "Save Our Sven" campaign and the players went on strike on the pitch when he was thrown away. Many blues fans have started "bring back Sven" campaigns since then. What's not to "believe"...? Only the mythology and crap put around by the media and a few sad idiots who believe what's written instead of the facts?
@Kelbert88 I guess your definition of "nothing" includes a glorious unbroken run of successes in Italy, Portugal etc and setting an all time record of international points for England and being ranked as England's top coach after Sir Alf? Sven was sacked by a foreign dictator after refusing to allow Taksin's minions to ruin what he was building (Best season in over 30 years!). I guess you think a few sad old gits pontificating about their imaginary "good old days" know better?

@kevnmur You obviously don't "remember correctly" Kev. Read the transcripts of what was actually said and it makes the invented head lines and totally faked story a nonsense. As usual, Eriksson was his cool noncommital self while the ridiculous pantomime Sheik tried his best to put words in his mouth. Every single one of the England team read what was actually said and came out 100% in support and TheFA extended Sven's contract shortly after. Was that a reward for "treachery"?
@AdCur09 England only became a laughing stock (once again?) the moment they ignored the massive Official England fan organisation's "Save Our Sven" campaign resulting in the exact same "golden generation" crashing out of qualifying for Euro2008 and putting up such a lack lustre performance so far in this World Cup after losing ONLY FIVE competitive games during the Sven/Becks years.... The brass neck of those 5th rate "has beens" would be hilarious if it wasn't so obviously jealous and sad..
@Kelbert88 England were a laughing stock in Euro2000 and Euro2008. Check the record 2001 - 2006 before you show just who is the "moron" my friend. If Sven is a "joke" it appears that quite a few other national teams and several premier league clubs would like to be "laughing" as much as those he steered from obscurity to the triple and other top honours in the past? Jealousy is a terrible thing and especially from a country that constantly fails to attract top international coaches or qualify?
Hmmm..., obviously this panel read the hype and not the facts or the record book? England a laughing stock in Euro2000 before Sven took over and England rose to FIFA No.4 world ranking, came top in every qualifying group and lost ONLY FIVE competitive games during his tenure prompting Official England Fans "Save Our Sven" campaigns. Odd that the appreciation for his talents reamins constantly high among national teams and the world's top league clubs and the world's mainstream pundits?
@MrZaqualung Err.., was that 1975 (1975!!!) or 1875? Either way you may have just reinforced the point made about a bunch of dried up, jealous old has beens making ignorant, illinformed, shameless and totally snide remarks about a man still at the top of the game? Now lets see.. Liverpool or Fulham (or some other lucky club) next?
@Kelbert88 It's a shame they talk 100 times more bullshit out of their arses though from that pitiful example....? It's also "fashionable" for has beens and never weres to knock Sven in the UK, (the continental journalists have a better grasp on things) but the people who really count (including his current and ex-players) appear to recognise sour grapes, jealousy and xenophobia and top clubs and national teams still keep right on trying to hire him?
Those who imagine Sven was a "failure" at Man City may have forgoten their spell at the top of the prem league, Sven getting the manager of the month award and the players strike and fans marches and season ticket strike etc? Google "Save Our Sven" and learn a little real history to replace your sad distorted second hand fantasy mythology from other sad jealous gits too lazy to check their facts or make up their own minds....
Tjos few lonely voices who fail to understand the statistics and the mainstream opinion of Eriksson may like to UA-cam search "sven goran eriksson, did he deserve the sack ?". Watch the video and read the many pages of comments from REAL soccer fans if you dare to have your own sad venomous little dillusions shattered by a dose of real factual evidence and the opinions of those better informed?
Ok. One last go maybe? I didn't see any queues of national and premier league clubs forming for their services in the past? This kind of disengenuous rubbish demeans and dishonours them, not Sven.
rte is not the same without these guys, they tell you how it is.great entertainment
This tv show is quality! Its a shame that us in england dont get this show because alot of english people would agree with whats being said!Lol
