souness is a legend here. such an honest indictment of the players in the england camp that are on far too much money and think they're immune to criticism.
Souness was right. But saying terry and cole aint top players but gerrard is clearly shows he is also impartial.

Souness got it bang on the money at the end. The inflated wages makes the good players think they're great players, and the public treats them like they're great players. Is James Milner any better than, say, Darren Anderton was?

As soon as JT spoke everyone praised him for speaking what "everyone else thought" but as soon as the media begins to critize him, everyone jumps in the bandwagon and attacks Terry as well. Pathetic.

@PrimeTime2912 Would hardly say John Terry is average judging by the fact he was in the champions league team of the season in 05 and 08, he was in the fifpro world xi for 4 consecutive season an was in the 2006 world cup team of the tournament, you dont get made captain of your country/club if you are an average player

This was a good debate, I think why dunphy was back pedalling was because there were hints of roy keane lurking in the background to what souness was addressing even it might not be intentional and dunphy knew where this debate could have led
non of the english players are top players. they are average. they are over rated and payed.

@@Mezzo396 The only good England team I've seen in my lifetime were the one in 96. A team of good and some great players. To me the truly great players were - Adams, Gascoigne, Shearer and Sheringham. The rest were good.
It was actually great today to see Souness and Ardiles, two great players, and Ron Whelan, a very good one on the panel for Potugal / Korea. It was such abreth of fresh air to see the mutual respect there. I really would like never to see Giles but particularly Dunphy ever again. Giles has to be approached always with care not to offend him, as for the other chancer...

@irishdan2007 when in international football have any of those players showed any good skill? never, qualifiers dont count. i mean italy was able to luckily pull a win the other day with a very unexperienced and new team. they suck, they suck in tournaments. they are just average.

@irishdan2007 messi is just as over rated. and the anwser is yes. if a player cant perform at an international level, he is not a world best. its simple. if he cant compete with other nationalities then he is over rated. ronaldo had a good last world cup, and a bad one this time round. still over rated, but can be considered world class. messi just didnt perform. its his first real world cup(last time he was on the bench). so to judge him now is too early.
