Some helpful advice: if you need to install the spare yourself, you will need a cheater bar to loosen the lugnuts on the flat tire. Trust me, those things are tight, torqued to about 100 lb-ft, and you will need all the strength you have to loosen them. For the cheater bar, I use a length of pipe about a foot long, with an inner diameter just a bit larger than the lug wrench handle. Just slip it over the handle and you'll have a lot more torque! Also, I carry a set of folding wheel chocks to keep the car from rolling while it's elevated. This really helps if the road isn't perfectly level. And finally, always carry a pair of gloves in the trunk to protect your hands during this sometimes messy procedure. Happy motoring!
Thank you for the tip! I can usually change my own flat tires, but I was struggling but now I know what I need to get. (But the video was even more helpful since I just got the car a month ago and forgot about Mazda Roadside.)
I’m stuck on the lug nut with special key. I have the key but can’t find any videos (and it’s cut out here) showing how to get that one off. It’s so tight.
good day I have a question Can the tire with a 19" rim (the damaged one in this example) fit in the space of the spare tire? And does the Bose bofer also fit this new rim? Or how does the flat tire look in the trunk? greetings!
I think if a front tire is flat, you have to move a rear tire to the front, and put the spare on the rear. That is because the majority of the power, even for the AWD, is from the front tires.
Mazda does list that in the owners manual. They are being precautionary. As long as you drive under 45 for limited mileage on the spare, you should be okay.
Been watching you an the Mazda CX 5 video for a while.. i think it's weird that you did not mention the fact that the spare tire Should NOT be put on the front. The manual says if you have a blown tire on the front.. you need to remove the back wheel and put it on the front.. and then the spare goes in the back. Still informative .!!!👍
Hey Jonathan, Great video I was looking at new crossovers and love the CX-5 Just curious, will the full size tire you take off fit right back in the donut hole without the the floor sticking up I want to use a full size spare, my winter tire for a summer spare and the summer tire for a winter spare So, free full size spare But, will it fit in there with the floor laying flat , just like if the donut was in there? Thank you
Hello! How do I know if our 2022 Mazda CX-5 Select has directional or non directional tires? And also, what is the right pattern for tire rotation? I’m a car noob here. Geez! Getting anxious as I wanna know how to make sure the dealership will really rotate our tires during the maintenance schedule.
Welcome newby, and Congratulations on your CX-5! They are non directional tires. Most technicians will simply rotate front to back on same side. Which is completely fine. Most dealerships offer a multipoint inspection that looks at brake pad wear also. They do that when they rotate your tires. Feel free to reach out with any other questions.
Yay! Thank you for your reply! I’ve been a silent subscriber/reader before we bought our Mazda last August. So is it necessary to put a number or mark on our tires? Lol. Sorry for the dumb question.
So in Summary of Changing a Car Tire: 1. Ensure safety: Pick a safe spot away from traffic, on a flat surface. 2. Activate hazard lights to alert other drivers. 3. Set handbrake and put the car in park. 4. Gather tools: Get the spare tire, jack, jack handle, and lug wrench. 5. Remove spare tire and jack from storage. 6. Find the proper jack point with a ridge, and slide the jack underneath. 7. Loosen lug nuts on the flat tire, but not too much. 8. Use the jack to raise the car off the ground. 9. Replace the flat tire with the spare. 10. Tighten lug nuts in a star pattern (avoid over-tightening). 11. Lower the car and remove the jack. 12. Put away all tools properly.
do changing tires with the provided jacks, only damage the rocker panels since it chips the paint, so it will rust prematurely in that location you jack the car up
Sure would love to see you actually install it on the front of the car. Mine will not fit over the brake caliper on the front. I have to put it on the rear and rotate the rear tire to the front. Probably should publish my video of this problem. Really not fun to change two tires on a freeway shoulder. Thanks for doubling the time my life is in jeopardy Mazda.
I would suggest owners buy a longer heavy duty wheel nut wrench to be able to loosen over tightened nuts. The one supplied is pretty small. Temporary spare wheels are silly. I will not be driving around without a full size spare onboard.
Hey john, got a dumb question for you, can I add premium package after buying the vehicle, and I know the price for GT is around $1600 does it keep same price? leather seat is hot ashell in the summer driving , really wanna get ventilate seat.
If you have ever changed a tire before you know why he didnt show the part where he loosen the lug nuts with the tiny tire iron. Make life easy on yourself and keep a 4 way in the back.
Not your best work! Your info is incorrect. Mazda CX-5 spare does not fit on the front. If your front goes flat, you must Jack up the rear, replace that with the spare then Jack up the front and put the back wheel on the front. If you followed through on you demonstration, you would’ve encountered this misadventure.
Mazda does not require/recommend the spare to be mounted on the back. I know why in the past that has been the case, but it is fine if you travel short distance and lower speed.
@@JSS ....that is not true. And as a vendor you should know better. Here's an excerpt of the CX5 manual; "Do not install the temporary spare tire on the front wheels (driving wheels): Driving with the temporary spare tire on one of the front driving wheels is dangerous. Handling will be affected. You could lose control of the vehicle, especially on ice or snow bound roads, and have an accident. Move a regular tire to the front wheel and install the temporary spare tire to the rear."
@@babysam77 I am not familiar with driving in icy or snowy environments. I believe they are saying that because of GVC and TRAC. I would probably call roadside if I have a tire problem in snow. For short distances and low speeds in dry pavement the spare on the front should be okay.
@@JSS I'm going to go with Sam on this one. If Mazda's owners manual states "do not" and "dangerous", then you should not be recommending the opposite, especially if you really are a professional. Somebody could get hurt or worse.
Great idea for a video. No excuse for sitting helplessly on the side of the road with a flat tire! Put the spare on. It’s simple to do.
That’s right.
Mazda owner here, Glad Mazda has no CVT transmissions and they still provide a spare tire in their vehicles!
Yes, a spare should always be available

Thanks for sharing! Those are great recommendations! The tight lugs is one of the reasons I didn’t take them off for the video. Thanks again!

Great video and I did not know about Mazda offering 3 year/36k mile roadside assistance! Thanks!
You're welcome
Well it's labor day 2023 but this video was super helpful when I blew a tire on I70 today. Thanks!!
You are welcome. I hope you have a great Holiday.
Helpful video actually.. I wish you showed a complete intallation of the spare tire..
I thought about that, but didn’t want to remove the factory spec lugs just for a demonstration. I may do it on the next one.

Thank you for the info and energy you brought to this video. SO helpful!
Thank you Sir, I did need this video, one caveat was the lock nut, found the tool in the glove box
Yes, wheel locks can be a bother sometimes.

So, Mazda is the new King

Good deal. 😁 Enjoy your ride!
Starting to get really excited for your uploads 👌 keep it up , looking to get my cx5 in the next few weeks God willing 👍

Unfortunately not. It is a factory option. If you added it by parting it out, it would be a lot more expensive.
Is it the same process for the Mazda CX-9?
Yes it is.

The lug wrench? Which tool?
@@JSS the tire tool, but that’s okay. I already got one and changed the tire, thank you 👍🏻

Dimension Spare Tire ??
I keep forgetting to get the exact size, but the Turbo models are 17” and the standard are 16”.
