I fell into this 4 years ago I was getting paid .36 cpm for flatbed I quit within 3 weeks because I wasn't making enough I ended up going local doing highway construction making way more and doing less work I paid their 7000 fee for leaving early within 2 months.

$30k-50k with a CDL, being on the roads in these big vehicles maintaining safety at every millisecond of the day is just insane. I breached my contract and walked away from my first company 3 months after going solo. Equated my checks to $10/hr of my time, and I was burning down my clock weekly. Trucking industry is one of the biggest jokes/scams ever, especially for a beginner.
Yeah the first year is brutal which is why the industry has a driver shortage. As soon as you get some experience, you essentially double your pay.
The biggest mistake new drivers make is not knowing when to tell a company or dispatcher "No".
A contract makes this very difficult.
All experienced drivers aet standards for employers... maintenance, home time and wages.
Hard to argue with a company when they got you by the financial balls.
I tell everyone under contract... get your six months experience and quit if you don't like the company... you will pay on average the same money as if you went to CDL school. After 6 months u can hire on with 80% of the companys out there at a higher wage. Be easy ✌
Very true. I would say stick it out for atleast a year so you can hire on with mid size and maybe some low size companies as well. But you’re right… learning to say no is very hard especially since companies won’t wait to fire someone and then complain they can’t find good drivers 😭
Got my CDL for free through a government program. The resources are there but not many ppl know of. Do your research ppl you won't have to be trap. Almost signed that contract but stepped back and did my research and was able to get my CDL for free. I can leave the company I'm with once I get that 6 month experience
That’s perfect brother! There’s so much help out there just a Google search away. People definitely fail to do proper research before starting something but hopefully I can help fix that.

Gettin my CDL completely free! Had to wait 5 months for the state to get my funding but well worth it.
I received my CDL through a government grant that’s paid %100 percent of my schooling. I applied for Roehl transport got hired. Worked for them for 8 months. When I left I immediately had a collection on my credit report, the main reason I left was due to improper training and for them throwing me out on my own after 3 weeks of rushed training.
Every job gives you training when you start. They made me pay for mine through a hidden contract. I already had revived my CDL

Yeah there are a lot of affordable options to get a CDL! I know community colleges charge 8K-10K so that’s what I referred to in the video
And he didn't mention that the government gives these large companies huge tax credits to train new drivers 🙄
Very true! Insurance companies offer them very favorable rates + the government provides credits/grants. There’s little reason to pay drivers so little but they “have to” in order to continually grow and make the shareholders happy smh.

C.R England is one of them. Miles go to the trainer. Its a way to exploit new drivers. I received a class action lawsuit because they were paying under the minimum wage laws and they still continue this process.

Me and my brother wanted to team drive. I have 4 years of otr experience but my brother only has 3 months. So we had to go to a mega carrier.we drove 2500 miles a week!!! 2 weeks of that and I quit. We should have hit 6k miles
Our solo drivers hit 2,400-2,700 miles per week running regional loads only!! That’s criminal that you guys as a team were driving the same number of miles smh. Hopefully you’ve found a better company.
I’m glad you phrased it as a generous 7-8k for cdl school. But in these company sponsored programs don’t you have the option to break the contract early and just be paying the same thing?
Yes but in that case, you’re paying for sub par training that you haven’t received. I’ve also heard of stories of mega carriers going after drivers that left early to join another trucking company. They’ll threaten the new trucking company with legal action if they hire the driver that owes them money.

All true but most insurance co. Will not take inexperience drivers, so this is the only way to get their feet in the door
Yes however mega fleets operate under different rules. They can take on brand new drivers, however, the increase in insurance cost is not proportional to the decrease in pay for new drivers.
I have enrolled in a Amazon Career Choice program for a CDL training…does this fall under the same category?
I’m not familiar with Amazon’s program however, I would check your contract and go through it. Don’t sign anything without fully understanding what you’re signing up for!

I attended Schneider paid training literally 2 weeks ago $80 a day from 6:30am-5pm. I got my CDL on my own. They told me I was going to start me at .41CPM and a $1K sign up bonus WHAT A JOKE! Average 2,200 miles per week being regional dry van then while in training the instructors told me nope less than that about 1,500 yeah someone doing non CDL trucking will make more than me 😂😂 this Monday I'm supposed to go with my TE (Training engineer) yeah that's not happening lol I've been watching UA-cam on how the trucking industry works for 4 years and I worked for a trucking company before I got my Class A ( I did Non-CDL trucking) tried warning everyone at training about how the industry works but no one listened and all decided to stay lol they were so happy about their "Sign up bonus" 😂😂
Way to break out of the matrix! There’s a reason we don’t give out sign on bonuses… it’s because our drivers are paid what we promise and they drive the miles we promised. Such a revolutionary concept I know 😭
Hi Gill just got my CDL but my main concern is should I leave my current job to join trucking as a truck driver when the recession is on or should I wait for some more time till things get better before I join the industry
As a truck driver, you will always have a job. However, regardless of whether you join now or later, your first year or two will not pay a lot ($~40K/year). But, after 2 years of clean driving, you'll be making $70k to $80k

But will companies hire you straight out of CDL school with no experience?
Major companies yes, but unfortunately 90% of companies cant take on new drivers because their insurance won’t accept new drivers or it’s too expensive.

So from your advice, and others that I’ve seen on the Internet, the smartest path is to acquire your CDL on your own steam. Then tough it out with a major carrier for a year or two but just for the experience, and most importantly not under the thumb of a carrier contract which gives them the power to use and abuse you. Then once you have enough experience, look to work for a better, smaller carrier.
When i first got into trucking back in 2016 I almost fell for that type of contract it was my brother who suggest I just go to local community college and get the cdl with them and then basically be a “free agent” when it came to having a cdl you have no contract no promises to keep i ended up joining Schneider national got paid Low and did crazy heavy water and paper loads mostly until found a better job at home and left mega carriers all together now work for small fleet of 60 trucks and home weekly with great pay

No you dont. There is a way around the arbitrary contract. We truck drivers will never tell anyone that isnt a new trucker working as an indentured servant. Because that is exactly what the arbitrary working contract is... a pos that is illegal in the united states. Companies claiming they are scared to hire you. Dont know how to get around the problem. It is very simple. You just have to think outside the box of lies.
